...Personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and Style and Public Relations consultant Ono Bello are two young social personalities who have discovered their part in life and followed it relentlessly.

The idea was to do a cover on young entrepreneurs whose job is their passion. Yemisi Suleiman quickly came up with the duo of Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and Ono Bello. Two young, enterprising consummate lovers of what they do for a living.

Ono a PR practitioner /blogger; the other a lawyer and TV personality. Two unrelated fields yet, these two are alike in so many ways: Love for their respective jobs, youth and an almost finicky passion for all things stylish.

I love it when young people have their heads well screwed on. These two know where their bread is being buttered and they are leaving no bones. We traced from their genesis to where they are now; an interesting read that tells you that when you know what you want, you can reach for the stars. Everyone who aspires should read and learn that you are where you are by the choices you made yesterday. See pp. 8, 9,10 and 11

Stylist Yolanda Okereke shows us some summer steals. Lest you say we don’t have summer, let me remind you that

we have summer all year round. So our list can go 360o literally. Finally, I really will love to hear from you. Tell me what you like or don’t like about today’s

A red carpet event is a formal occasion when the red carpet is spread out to honour guests who attend the event. At formal events like the AMMA Awards or the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) or even the Oscars, it is a time when the stars come down slinking down the red carpet in well crafted evening dresses. Usually at those events, it is the women and what they are arrayed in that people usually care about. However, a few men who know their onions where fashion is concerned, still get some heads turning in their direction.

The red carpet event is a time when a guy is required to wear a nice suit or the most conventional attire, the tuxedo. The bottom line is to be creative, look sharp without getting wild. Once in a while, one or two people do spring surprises like Jim Iyke at the last AMVCA.

These days, more people are abandoning convention for creativity. So you may find red carpet walkers rocking a nice, monochromatic ensembles and in some other cases, spicing with a touch of bright colour.

Celebrities in the city of Lagos do know how to rock the red carpet. In case you’d like to copy one of these guys, don’t forget to bring on the attitude. OC sure knows how to make that happen.

These are easy delights. Its time to start your collection of cotton and silk scarves. They come in handy, everyday and everywhere. They are always going to be around; a timeless piece of accessory.

What would we do without a vest or vests. Not only are they simple, easy and sexy, they are easy to afford. A mesh or bright printed vest will take you from the shops to the beach to the drinks-at-sunset get-together.

Flip flops are fun and fun, fun, fun. The new flip flops will put a skip in your steps. They are fun now because they come in variety of colours and patterns.

A loose t-shirt is an essential, also perfect for throwing an over active wear. It’s almost the easiest thing to throw on when you are on the go.

When you wear a hat, make sure you wear it well. Whether it’s brimmed, tribly or wide, even a visor, you cannot go wrong with a hat. It most times, flatters your outfit.

When it comes to bracelets with the season, the more the merrier, so pile on stacks of charming bracelets. It makes you turn out looking exciting and if they are coloured, let them be colourful and playful. Details such as braided, leather, metal and beading makes them CHIC accessories.

Summer Knits are sexy in a subtle way. Lightweight knits double up as cool cover ups, especially if its ombre or crafty crochet.

Trendy Ways to

Gone are the days of boring corporate work wear. The new and improved pant suit is put together, polished and professional for the working woman on the go. Complete them with tops and accessories for that extra chic look. For a more feminine appeal, combine strict men’s style suits with intricate blouses and dramatic accessories.

by - Yemisi Suleiman

Go casualWearing your blazer open with longer, easy breezy trousers are a trendy yet office-appropriate way to work this style into your everyday corporate look.

MoDERN cuTsThe first and foremost way to transform the pant or skirt suit is by selecting modern cuts and tailoring to keep your look young, fresh and contemporary. For an updated edge, look for cropped trousers, defined details like large lapels or a modified blazer with a trendy touch like a peplum finish to breathe new life into the pant suit.

aDD sEquiNsFor a dazzling addition to your suit, select separated and coordinating pieces that have sequin details, shimmering appliqués or embellished necklines for a dose of sparkle that won’t dull your shine in a pant suit.

aDD colouRFor a subtler approach, choose a bright blouse or camisole to balance your conservatively colored suit.

liGHTER sHaDEsChoose shades that are lighter and brighter. If you don’t want to stray too far away from your conservative side, select shades like charcoal grey, navy, or brown to still add that pop of color for sophisticated, work-appropriate attire. For a fun and youthful way to play up the pantsuit, go beyond basic black.

Twenty three year old Akudo Ezinne Anyaoha, last Sunday at the Intercontinental Hotel in Lagos,

cat-walked her way to fame and fortune when she emerged winner of Miss Nigeria 2013. Her victory brought to an end the search by the organizers of Miss Nigeria pageant, for an “international Ambassador that will uphold the Nigerian culture and traditional values in our modern way of life”.

The law graduate of Abia State University beat 20 other contestants to improve her fortune with a brand new car donated by Quintessentially, N3, 000, 000m, a trip to California and one year free accommodation. She was closely followed in the race by 21 year old Queen Celestine and Chiamaka Olive Sadiq who emerged first and second runners up respectively.

The glamorous show which started behind schedule drew a large turn out of guests from all walks of life who came gaily dressed in their evening best.

The contestants who made their first appearance in a well choreographed dance, filed out in different Nigerian traditional attires depicting our rich and diverse cultures. By the time the event got to the question and answer segment, there was no doubt that the judges made up of Honorable Abike Dabiri, Betty Irabor, Helen Prest Ajayi, Jay Jay Okocha, Frank Osodi Richard and Gift Ofori would have a hard time

determining the winner as the girls gave a good account of themselves answering questions intelligently. The judges assessed the girls in the areas of elegance, poise, talent, intelligence and beauty. From the top 10, announced by Honorable Abike Dabiri, the number was eventually scaled down to five. Those who made the top five include Akudo Anyaoha, Stefania Bassey, Agnes Tochukwu Anyanwu, Chiamaka Olive Sadiq and Queen Celestine.

Four of the contestants who made remarkable impression in some areas were given awards. Miss Akudo Anyaoha

- On Passion & Style

E buka Obi -Uchendu shot to limelight 7 years ago with the first Big Brother Nigeria reality show where he blossomed to become one of the season’s most likable and memorable

players. Though he did not emerge winner, the show did turn his life in a completely different direction, as he had not really thought about working on television until then. An indigene of Okija in Anambra StateNigeria, Ebuka grew up in Benin-City where he had his primary school before moving to Abuja for secondary school at Christ The KingCollege. After obtaining a degree in Law from the University of Abuja and BL from the Nigerian Law School, Bwari in 2005, he took a long break from school for a few years before going to the American University, Washington DC for a Masters Degree in Intellectual Property as well as Communications Law. He is presently Senior Partner at Knight & Sheriff, Presenter at EbonyLife TV and talk show host at Channels TV. He is the 3rd of 4 children.

What was it like after you left big brother? What was the first job you got?

Ah! This Big Brother matter. You know I was on that show 7 years ago. So many things have happened since then. Anyway, the show did turn my life in a completely different direction. I had not really thought about working on television until then. The first job I got was a Guinness sponsored show called ‘Friend or Foe’. It was a game show that ran for 2 seasons. I loved every minute of it even though it was a learning experience. It helped me understand how tough working in the media can be. I only saw the glamour up until that point.

From Globacom and Guinness where you hosted a Guinness-sponsored show, Friend or Foe, on NTA, the GLO Show, exactly how did the evolution of Ebuka begin?

It was quite interesting because even after Big Brother, I still wanted to simply work on radio and

then write for newspapers and other publications. I felt I was too shy for television. But I started getting invitations for auditions and realized gradually that I actually did enjoy it. Also, working on terrestrial television brought the pressure of mass appeal and I always knew that I had to be at my best because all of Nigeria was watching, cutting across all sectors of society. I’ve gone on to host many other shows after that, so it was a good springboard for me.

Give us a brief into your background, early education, where you grew up, how many siblings you had etc?

I grew up in Benin-City and had my primary school there before moving to Abuja for secondary school at Christ The King College. I went on to the University of Abuja to study law before getting my BL from the NigerianLawSchool, Bwari in 2005. I took a long break from school after that for a few years before going to the AmericanUniversity, in

WashingtonDC to get Masters Degree in Intellectual Property as well as Communications Law. I’m the 3rd of 4 children. I have an elder sister and brother and a younger brother.

Do you practice as a lawyer? It is still my long term dream to grow that part of

my career to its fullest, which was why I went to get a Masters degree. I practice now, but obviously not as intensely as I’d want to, because I have a lot of distractions working on television. But it’s definitely still a huge part of me.

What informed your choice of career as a teenager?

My dislike of mathematics. I wasn’t bad at Maths. I just never really liked it, so I avoided it in every way. I grew up wanting to be a pilot. Then I realized I loved the arts better as I matured. So law for me was a natural calling since it was a professional course that didn’t need any Maths or

half years ago, in this time it has grown to be a one-stop destination where readers get the latest Trends, Designers Look books, Show Reports, Street Style and get up and close with their favourite fashionable Celebrities in the Interview or Personal Style section. OnoBello.com and her Public Relations company PR UNO founded in January of 2011, she says are to highlight the achievements in Nigerian and African style. The online magazine boasts of thousands of daily visitors and has been profiled as a top destination for all Fashion, Entertainment, Lifestyle and Current Affairs news. With its fast pace growth, financial institutions, fashion brands and ecommerce retailers are tapping in on the action Banner ads have recently begun to appear on her site from the likes of United Bank for Africa, Access Bank and other fashion retailers and event promoters. This style persona has turned her passion for writing and growing businesses into an interesting business.

physics classes.

Law and TV are little worlds apart, what motivated this sort of crossover for you?

It wasn’t an intentional crossover like I said. TV came unannounced and I flew with it. But as much as people think they are worlds apart, I decided to marry them together with my Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law degree. Besides, some of the most successful TV shows in America today are law related. Judge Judy for instance is a multi millionaire today from following both her passions in law and television. Maybe the legal profession isn’t as conservative anymore.

You hosted the first ever presidential debate in Nigeria focused on youth issue which was broadcast live across Nigeria. Whose idea was it? What was the main objective and would you say the objective was met at the end of the day?

Basically, ‘Enough is Enough Nigeria’ along with many other youth based groups, needed to let the Presidential candidates at the time take young people seriously. We needed to hear from them directly, what they had for us and why we should vote for them. Unfortunately, some candidates didn’t show up but those who did gave an impressive account of themselves. It was shown live across the country and feedback was great. For a first attempt, I think it was hugely successful. Young people don’t usually demand that leaders speak to them. It was new and refreshing to see that happen. So, I know that 2015 would get even better.

What other projects have you worked on?I have hosted many other shows on television.

Tales of Greatness, Greatest 11 and one highlight for me was hosting Guinness’ 250th anniversary. It was a live broadcast from 4 cities across the world, including Lagos and Dublin. I co-hosted the Lagos event and the whole of the world was watching live.

It was surreal to do, especially as some of the biggest music acts at the time like Sean Paul and Black Eyed Peas were some of the acts that performed. Rubbin’ Minds is also a big deal for me. Hosting a live formal interview based show was always my dream. I also co-host a brand new daily show on the brand new Ebony Life TV called The Spot. It’s nothing like I’ve done before and it’s nothing like people have seen either. I love new challenges and experiences.

As an on-air personality, do you feel the pressure to always look well put together at all times and do you think you always have to live a certain lifestyle?

It’s not pressure at all. I don’t honestly try too hard to look a certain way. For me, I try to be as effortless as possible. Less is more especially with male lifestyle and fashion so I try to stick to that principle.

What has been your pillar and kept you going through the years?

My family even if I don’t give them enough credit. They have actually been there for me all through and supported me every step of the way. I love every single one of them to bits.

Who is your role model? The one person that always comes to mind is Jeff

Bezos, the founder of amazon.com. I love his story. It’s always impressive to see people follow their dreams out of nothing and actually watch it grow and become successful businesses. But in direct relation to what I do, Asue Ighodalo is someone I admire a lot.

How do you un-wind after a hard day’s job?I watch a lot of television. I watch any and

everything and that diversity is what works for me. One minute I’m watching CNN, next I’m watching E! Then I’m watching football. Nothing is off limits. I also

like to workout as often as I can.

Where is your best holiday spot?I love to travel a lot but I don’t do that as often as I

want. I love my village Okija a lot though. It’s unbelievably serene and still quite rural. It completely relaxes me. But my dream city is still Tokyo. I’m fascinated by the Japanese.

If you had a chance to start your life over again, what will you do differently?

I’d probably live in the moment more often. A lot of us tend to forget to live in the moment so that we don’t look back and wish we had done things a little differently or enjoyed them more. Seems like a tiny issue but it makes all the difference.

Who is your ideal kind of woman? When I get married, you’ll get the answer. Soon

enough I hope.

What is your eventual dream for the future? Happiness. It is the most important value for me

to possess. If you’re an unhappy billionaire, I don’t know that you’d think you lived a fulfilling life. The importance of a happy life cannot be overemphasized.

ONO BELLO

What is OnoBello.com all about?OnoBello.com I believe is one of the fast

growing, most recognizable and most widely-read online magazine in Nigeria. Our style suggestions, honest reviews and friendly voice make our website a must-read for thousands of people daily. I believe the website has provided the perfect platform from which to share I can share my

expertise where readers can get up-to-the minute updates on news around the globe especially news from Nigeria as well as where everyone can get the latest Trends, Designers Lookbooks, Show Reports, Street Style and get up and close with their favourite fashionable Celebrities in the Interview or Personal Style sections.

Apart from highlighting the achievements in Nigerian and African style. At what point was the idea for OnoBello.com conceived?

Well, at the time I started the website, I was working on an assignment in London with Arise magazine- an affiliate of ThisDay Newspaper but there was something missing in it for me, maybe I was bored, maybe I wanted more responsibility, maybe I felt I had more to give or I guess I just wanted my own voice and at the time, I wasn’t getting all these things so I started thinking of other things to do that are also in line with media, something I could own, start small with and have fun doing and that lead to starting up as a social media entrepreneur and Public Relations consultant.

Two and a half years on, how has it been so far?

It has not been easy at all, there have been so many challenges; both financial, breaking boundaries and getting people to see what we are all about. It’s been over two years running OnoBello.com and the business still hasn’t broken even financially, a lot goes into updating the website daily, there’s a lot of money involved and I spend most of my days and nights behind my computer working, researching for news that will be of interest to our readers, making phone calls, meeting with people all to make sure that we break news and events happening first before any other website or blog.

I didn’t just start this for the fun of doing so or

because I was bored, I started it because I wanted to make a positive impact to Nigerian Fashion and the Arts especially. It is a sector of our economy that is still growing and there is so much talent and good coming out of it that most people living in and outside the continent do not recognize it.

Would you say you have achieved your aim for which OnoBello.com was set?

At this point, I haven’t achieved it. I am sort of a perfectionist and I am still working on things.

You also work as Public Relations executive, can you tell us about this?

Yes, I do. I run a Public Relations company known as PR UNO. This is a Public Relations agency that seeks innovative solutions in lifestyle PR cutting across different spheres of the society from business and politics to entertainment and

fashion. Staying ahead of the game is our number one priority that is why we always make use of diverse strategies that provide the best service possible to our clients. Our services include-General PR and Press exposure, Model casting Coordination, Digital and Online Media, Branding and Image Consultancy and Events Exposure. Some of the clients and projects we have worked with and on include; Black Up Nigeria, Banke Meshida Lawal, Lanre DaSilva Ajayi, Montaigne Place, Woolworths Stores and many others.

Who are the people you would love to work with?

This year, we are looking to work more in the political sector and it will be exciting to represent a few notable politicians that can bring about change to the people of Nigeria.

Since you work in fashion and lifestyle, do you feel the pressure to always look well put together at all times and do you think you always have to live a certain lifestyle?

Pressure? There’s no pressure at all in dressing up, I love to always look well put together, its fun for me! Like I always say, fashion is a way of life and I don’t have to live to a certain lifestyle at all. I have my dress up days and my dress down days like anyone else. I am not an extravagant person and being Stylish or fashionable does not depend on the amount of money you spend or the putting together high-end designer labels all at one go. For me, I always have to look presentable especially when I am going for business meetings and at social functions. I think I have a bit of OCD (Obsessive–compulsive disorder) in that department.

How would you describe your style?

For me, putting clothes together is what I do all the time and it’s fun and unpredictable so I like to think my style is fun. I like to try out new things, but I always cling to glamorous touches and

classic details. I read a lot of magazines and surf through the internet to see real style from real people. My travels also influence me. I always take lots of pictures, and then inject all those inspirations into my wardrobe. I tend to go for a lot of blacks, not because it is a safe colour but because it is classic but recently I have been inspired by the style of American Singer/DJ Solange Knowles- I love her hair and the risks she takes in fashion.

Tell us your regime to get ready for a red carpet event or for your show, how long does it take you to get dressed? Do you work with a Stylist?

It takes me about an hour to get dressed from when I step into the bath to when I step out of the door for an event. Everything I do alone and do not work with any stylist or makeup artist. Most times I do not even know what I will be wearing

•Ono

until I step out of the bath and look through my closet other times might get an outfit made by my favourite Nigerian designer Lanre DaSilva Ajayi, it totally depends on what the event is.

Do you have favorite designers for clothes, shoes, bags?

My style is not about brands, when I see something I like and think it will accentuate my features or look good with something I already own, whether it has a name or not I’ll get it and style it up to suit me and the occasion. However, I love some Nigerian designers such as Lanre DaSilva Ajayi, Ella and Gabby, Nichole by Haguaana and Ma’Bello.

Give us a brief into your background, early education, where you grew up, how many siblings you had?

My father is from Oria-Abraka, while my mother is from Eku both in DeltaState so we are Urhobos. I have three sisters and two brothers and I am the 5th child in my family. My primary and secondary education was both in Warri DeltaState. For my tertiary education I studied for a two year diploma in Data Processing at the University of Benin before going on to study English Language at the University of Lagos Akoka. Just before I graduated my first degree in 2004, I got a job at ThisDay Newspaper as a journalist. During my time there, I worked with the Style and Business desks.

In January of 2008 I took a study leave to go further my education and went on a Post Graduate Masters degree at Middlesex University Business School London. During my Masters degree I had a four months internship at Shell Nigeria where I worked in the Human Resources department. Upon completion of my Masters degree I returned to ThisDay briefly where I worked in both the Style and Human Resources department then was sent to work on a one year assignment with its sister publication in London- Arise magazine. I resigned my position at ThisDay and my assignment at Arise magazine in January of 2011 to officially start up my businesses- OnoBello.com and PR UNO.

What informed your choice of career?I can’t really say one thing did. I guess it chose

me since I have always loved to read books and write.

What motivates Ono Bello?Ambition to succeed.

What has been your pillar and kept you going through the years?

God has always been there for me.

How do you un-wind after a hard day’s job? I drink a glass of wine.

Where is your best holiday spot? Anywhere that has a beach.

If you had a chance to start your life over again, what will you do differently?

I would start up my businesses earlier than I did.

Who is your ideal kind of man?Is there something as “ideal”? I am not sure!

Well, I would say a man that is supportive will be great.

When should we expect wedding bells and who is the lucky guy?

I am single; yes I want to get married soon. Let God’s will be done. I like to keep my relationship private.

half years ago, in this time it has grown to be a one-stop destination where readers get the latest Trends, Designers Look books, Show Reports, Street Style and get up and close with their favourite fashionable Celebrities in the Interview or Personal Style section.

Seems like a tiny issue but it makes all the difference.

enough I hope.

Since you work in fashion and lifestyle, do you feel the pressure to always look well put together at all times and do you think you always have to live a certain lifestyle?

just done. Cissy hugged me. ‘Thank you. Thank you. I’m so distraught; I can’t even gather myself to do anything.’

‘It’s okay,’ I said. ‘She will vomit out the jewellery from wherever she’s put it. You calm down, go back into your room, finish dressing up, go finish your poetry reading and look forward to your party tomorrow. Nothing will steal your joy! Oya, oya, go!’ I shooed her off. ‘Nneka, go with her. Joy, call the poetry people and tell them she’s on her way back. Morayo, your hubby Femi and I will sort this out.’ Cissy’s eyes filled with gratitude. ‘You are a true friend,’ she wailed. You all are true friends.’

Off she went and needless to say, Rosalyn was handed over first to the vigilante guys who took her straight to their ‘jail’ in Ajah. Within three hours, she had helped them ‘locate’ her boy friend and they’d recovered the jewellery. In the morning, she was handed over to the police for prosecution. We will see it through and she will go to jail. Cissy got her birthday jewellery back and we all had a blast at the occasion. The DJ was particularly good, taking over after Demola Olota had thrilled us all and made us dance and spray to his exceptional music. We proceeded to ‘old skool’ music with the DJ and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Next day, Sunday, I called Cissy. After much love had been exchanged, me complimenting her on the success of the event and she thanking me profusely for my support and love, I told her: ‘Cissy, you are my friend and I will tell you straight as I always do. Take the lesson from what Rosalyn did. These are dire times in the life of this country and decency and morals have been tossed to the bin. People believe that everyone who has a bit of wealth must have stolen it, embezzled it or defrauded people for it and that they should go in and take a slice. Stop advertising yourself like you’ve done the whole of this past week. Take all your precious items to the bank or vaults or totally outside the country and go hibernate somewhere for a while. Lie low!’

‘Thanks, my G’, Cissy said. ‘You always tell me the truth. Even though you never approved of all the events, you supported me through them all and swung to protect me when the wahala came. Even Femi is thrilled. You’re a true friend, a great friend and I love you dearly.’

Awww, who could resist such love? I smiled and responded in like. Then, I told her, ‘My ‘bill’ for all the wahala she had put me through was a pair of green Louboutins! Ha! Ha!

ESCAPADESStyleof

She has already passed half of them to her boy friend and these are the few we have managed to recover from her so far. She broke into my room while I was away at the poetry reading which is holding just down the road at the new restaurant there, took the first round in a bag and gave her boy friend. Fortunately for me, I got chapman poured all over my dress and decided to come home real quick and change. I was in the bathroom when I heard noises in my room. She had come in from the back door and obviously didn’t know I was back home, used the key she had duplicated and was about o finish the job when I caught her. She had already packed the remaining jewellery onto that bag when I caught her red-handed. My husband came rushing home immediately, as soon as I called him’, Cissy told us brokenly.

Morayo, Nneka, Joy, Cissy began raining curses on the thief of a Rosalyn, who stood there looking unrepentant. I was incredibly pissed off. I can’t stand thievery, in the first place. Then, a defiant thief?

She was about to be taught the lesson of her life. I went to the side room and made two calls. First was to a local vigilante head. Yup. Their mission? They would beat the living day lights out of the thief and get the jewellery back for us. They had their means. Second call was to a police boss, asking for his help. He gave me the area DPO number to call and promised to talk to him before I called. ‘It’s late now’, I said, ’We will call him in the morning’.

No, it wasn’t really late. I just wanted the thief to spend the night at the mercy of the vigilante boys. I went back into the living room and told the people there what I’d

THE FORTIETH BIRTHDAY PARTY

Feedback to escapadesofstyle gmail.com

One by one, God began to bring my builders into the scene. He started with Pastor Sam Adeyemi who looked into my eyes and said, “Jerome, I believe in you”, when everyone else had stopped believing in me. Sam Adeyemi did not just say “I believe in you”, but also gave me letters of recommendation to places, knowing I could still mess up and`put his own name on the line.

Sam Adeyemi did not only recommend me in Nigeria, but also in the United Kingdom. Then there was Rev. Fred Degbee who brought me into Accra, Ghana; David Blake Boachie and Kojo Oppong Adjei of Sunny 88.7FM in Kanda, Accra who gave me a platform that stole the hearts of people in Accra as they heard my voice continually on radio talking about relationships.

Then, from one surprise to another came Adora Ifezue whom I had met when I was in Ife. She kept on asking me to be a guest on Segun

Arinze’s show on AIT until she got me there. Then Segun Arinze said Agatha Amata needed me on “Inside Out”. I later went back to Accra only for someone in Accra to say he had just finished watching me on television and I found later that “Inside Out” was on cable TV.

I came back for another recording when Chude Jideonwo invited me for “New Dawn with Funmi Iyanda”. Funmi Iyanda asked me to

become a counsellor on “New Dawn” when it was on NTA Chanel 10. Two weeks later, it went on NTA Network and the whole of Nigeria started seeing my show. Later, NTA went on satellite and the whole world started watching me, and yet my builders kept on multiplying as God kept on increasing my boundaries.

It then became obvious that for every new builder, there was an increase in boundary for me. My boundaries were extended to Abuja through Yinka and Shade Tonade; into MNET through Mo Abudu; into the Prints Media through Toyin Eriye and Shola Oshunkeye. Remmy Diagbare extended my boundaries into ‘Vanguard Allure’ and into the lives of all of you who read “Get Captivated” every Sunday.

Alongside builders, God also brought me comforters like Pastor Nike Adeyemi, Pastor Ayo Daniels, Stella Damasus, Yinka Davies, Gloria Ese Olotu, Toyin Atalabi, Beatrice Egbarin-Olutayo and my very own Adebola Williams. It’s amazing how God is undoing all that afflict me, giving me praise and fame in all the places that I have been put to shame; turning back my captivity before my very eyes.

Isn’t God who keeps His word worthy of our praise? For all of you who rejoice with me today, joy will never cease in your homes. You will live with increase without limits in your homes and that which God has promised you, He will perform speedily in Jesus Name, Amen.

I give a resounding applause to my biggest comforter, builder and best friend, who has been with me for 26 years, my wife Lawrenta Omono Onipede (nee Okosun).

Dear readers,Trust you all had a great week!

I could not but appreciate the diverse light that you brought with your various emails, in response to my article of June 30, 2013, regarding the significance of good attitude in the work place or what we term POLISH/SOCIAL SKILL.This significance is highly over rated to some, yet there are a few of us who will eternally admit that profit

is mostly tied to the skill.I found very interesting, two particular responses that I would like to share with us. The first is from Mr. Gbenga Kadiri and he says:

“I am in awe of this wonderful article by the Diamond School of Protocol and Etiquette. I am an ardent reader of these articles and have religiously followed-up on them. And so when the last article (dated June 30, 2013) which encouraged responses from readers was published, it was a chance that I couldn’t resist. It is indeed one medium or opportunity that some of us can capitalise on and be bold enough to x-ray this ‘menace’ that has its head firmly reared in work places like mine, where the superior intent for our business which is supposed to be the achievement of our vision and mission has been replaced by a community of professionals who are

5. Avoid constipation: By eating plenty of raw fruits and vegetables, drinking water regularly throughout the day and taking a bottle of Body Perfect’s “Perfect Cocktail” daily.

6. Avoid saturated or damaged fats: These will harm your liver if you eat them regularly. These unhealthy fats can cause liver damage with increased chances of a fatty liver similar to that seen in heavy alcohol consumption. Many weight watchers try to follow a completely fat-free diet believing that this will speed up weight loss. However, if this is done for more than four weeks, symptoms of essential fatty acids deficiency will start to occur. Furthermore, if you completely exclude healthy fats namely essential fatty acids from your diet, your metabolism will slow down, leading to easier weight gain. Symptoms of essential fatty acids deficiency include:

i) dry and itchy skin ii) eczema iii) ham loss iv) joint pains v) reduced fertilityvi) depression and poor memory vii) premature ageing viii) reduced immune functioning.

It has also been shown to reduce insulin resistance which in turn, has a positive impact on estrogen levels and breast cancer risk. And since insulin resistance is an early warning sign for type-2 diabetes, flaxseeds may also provide protection against this dis-ease, which is currently an epidemic. In my view, I believe people differ, hence the display of different attitudes. Our belief system, norms and values influence our personality. However, to remain relevant as a professional in any chosen field and even in life generally, good attitude is KEY. Like the saying “your attitude determines your altitude”, physical and mental strength may sustain for a while but attitude sustains for a lifetime.

There are several factors that take staff to the professional level, and just like a book, these factors are just the cover but attitude is the content. Good attitude is a selling point anytime, anywhere, any day”.

Wow! Gbenga really hit the nail on the head here, I am sure you agree with me.

It was all fireworks, cheers and toasts on July 6, 2013 as Mrs. Maria Iro, who retired as Chief Training Officer and Head of the Corporation’s Lagos zonal training department from NNPC, celebrated her milestone age of 70!

The occasion was well attended as distinguished guests, friends and well-wishers were present. The guests were entertained with a live performance by Ego. The celebrant herself thrilled her guests with a special number!

Without doubt, exceptional dishes and dancing complemented the party. And once again, the celebrant sent her guests out of town when she hit the dance floor!!!

It was surely an event for evergreen memories!

Perhaps a distinguishing feature of Bnatural Medspa is that it’s the first spa in Lagos, Nigeria that offers the Moroccan Hammam, an ancient and time honoured institution with roots in the Roman and Arab cultures dating back to 600 AD.

Guests at the event had a lot to eat and drink and were conducted round the spa.

Call it a gathering of the academic community and you would not be mistaken as the entire academia from the University of Lagos and associates of the bride’s father registered their presence. It was a moment of glory for the Dean of the Faculty of Social Science, University of Lagos, Prof. Omololu Soyombo and his wife, Abiodun, a manager with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and the Akingbade family when their children, Omolola Soyombo, a United States trained pharmacist got married to Adegoke Akingbade in an elaborate two-day ceremony in Lagos.

Yetunde Fashina-Arebi’s book: “Youth, Sex and Wellbeing” was presented to the public on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the Afe Babalola Auditorium, University of Lagos to distinguished personalities among who were Her Excellency, Biodun Yuguda, Hon. Sani Batagarawa, Hon. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, Mr. Ikeddy Isiguzo, Mr. Mideno Bayagbon and Mr Eze Anaba.

Bnatural Medspa, one of Nigeria’s foremost medical spa and laser centre, has in over 10 years of its existence gained clients’ trust with its top medical grade products and expert service delivery.

The organization recently launched another exquisite spa in Victoria Island, Lagos. Situated in the heart of Lagos, the spa is haven for women and men of style who want to escape the stress of urban life to be pampered with a total spa experience.
