    #-&! : ye who belie4e= 9astin is "rescribed to you as it was "rescribed to those beforeyou, that ye may $learn% self@restraint,@

    #- ! $9astin % for a fi ed number of days; but if any of you is ill, or on a 8ourney, the "rescribed number $Should be made u"% from days later. 9or those who can do it $3ithhardshi"%, is a ransom, the feedin of one that is indi ent. 2ut he that will i4e more, ofhis own free will,@ it is better for him. And it is better for you that ye fast, if ye only#new.

    #- ! 6amadhan is the $month% in which was sent down the ur an, as a uide to man#ind,also clear $Si ns% for uidance and 8ud ment $2etween ri ht and wron %.     And fear Allah. !hat ye may "ros"er.

    #./! 9i ht in the cause of Allah those who fi ht you, but do not trans ress limits; forAllah lo4eth not trans ressors.

    #.#! And slay them where4er ye catch them, and turn them out from where they ha4e!urned you out; for tumult and o""ression are worse than slau hter; but fi ht them not atthe Sacred MosFue, unless they $first% fi ht you there; but if they fi ht you, slay them.Such is the reward of those who su""ress faith.

    #.%! 2ut if they cease, Allah is :ft@for i4in , Most Merciful.

    #.&! And fi ht them on until there is no more !umult or o""ression, and there "re4ail 8ustice and faith in Allah. but if they cease, 1et there be no hostility e ce"t to those who "ractise o""ression.

    #. ! !he "rohibited month for the "rohibited month,@ and so for all thin s "rohibited,@there is the law of eFuality. If then any one trans resses the "rohibition a ainst you,!rans ress ye li#ewise a ainst him. 2ut fear Allah, and #now that Allah is with thosewho restrain themsel4es.

    #. ! And s"end of your substance in the cause of Allah, and ma#e not your own hands

    contribute to $your% destruction; but do ood; for Allah lo4eth those who do ood.#. ! And com"lete the 7a88 or umra in the ser4ice of Allah. 2ut if ye are "re4ented$9rom com"letin it%, send an offerin for sacrifice, such as ye may find, and do notsha4e your heads until the offerin reaches the "lace of sacrifice. And if any of you is ill,or has an ailment in his scal", $?ecessitatin sha4in %, $7e should% in com"ensationeither fast, or feed the "oor, or offer sacrifice; and when ye are in "eaceful conditions$a ain%, if any one wishes to continue the umra on to the ha88, 7e must ma#e an offerin ,

    %%&! Eour wi4es are as a tilth unto you; so a""roach your tilth when or how ye will; butdo some ood act for your souls beforehand; and fear Allah. And #now that ye are tomeet 7im $in the 7ereafter%, and i4e $these% ood tidin s to those who belie4e.

    %% ! And ma#e not Allah.s $name% an e cuse in your oaths a ainst doin ood, or actinri htly, or ma#in "eace between "ersons; for Allah is :ne 3ho heareth and #noweth allthin s.

    %% ! Allah will not call you to account for thou htlessness in your oaths, but for theintention in your hearts; and 7e is :ft@for i4in , Most 9orbearin .

    %% ! 9or those who ta#e an oath for abstention from their wi4es, a waitin for fourmonths is ordained; if then they return, Allah is :ft@for i4in , Most Merciful.

    %%*! 2ut if their intention is firm for di4orce, Allah heareth and #noweth all thin s.

    %%-! Di4orced women shall wait concernin themsel4es for three monthly "eriods. ?or isit lawful for them to hide what Allah 7ath created in their wombs, if they ha4e faith in

    Allah and the 1ast Day. And their husbands ha4e the better ri ht to ta#e them bac# in that "eriod, if they wish for reconciliation. And women shall ha4e ri hts similar to the ri htsa ainst them, accordin to what is eFuitable; but men ha4e a de ree $of ad4anta e% o4erthem. And Allah is B alted in Power, 3ise.

    %%.! A di4orce is only "ermissible twice after that, the "arties should either hold!o ether on eFuitable terms, or se"arate with #indness. It is not lawful for you, $Men%, tota#e bac# any of your ifts $from your wi4es%, e ce"t when both "arties fear that theywould be unable to #ee" the limits ordained by Allah. If ye $8ud es% do indeed fear thatthey would be unable to #ee" the limits ordained by Allah, there is no blame on either ofthem if she i4e somethin for her freedom. !hese are the limits ordained by Allah. so donot trans ress them if any do trans ress the limits ordained by Allah, such "ersons wron$!hemsel4es as well as others%.

    %&/! So if a husband di4orces his wife $irre4ocably%, 7e cannot, after that, re@marry heruntil after she has married another husband and 7e has di4orced her. In that case there is

    no blame on either of them if they re@unite, "ro4ided they feel that they can #ee" thelimits ordained by Allah. Such are the limits ordained by Allah, which 7e ma#es "lain tothose who understand.

    %! 3hen ye di4orce women, and they fulfil the term of their $ Iddat%, either ta#e them bac# on eFuitable terms or set them free on eFuitable terms; but do not ta#e them bac# toin8ure them, $or% to ta#e undue ad4anta e; if any one does that; 7e wron s his own soul.Do not treat Allah.s Si ns as a 8est, but solemnly rehearse Allah.s fa4ours on you, and thefact that 7e sent down to you the 2oo# and 3isdom, for your instruction. And fearAllah, and #now that Allah is well acFuainted with all thin s.

    %&%! 3hen ye di4orce women, and they fulfil the term of their $ Iddat%, do not "re4entthem from marryin their $former% husbands, if they mutually a ree on eFuitable terms.!his instruction is for all amon st you, who belie4e in Allah and the 1ast Day. !hat is$the course Ma#in for% most 4irtue and "urity amon st you and Allah #nows, and ye#now not.

    %&&! !he mothers shall i4e such to their offs"rin for two whole years, if the fatherdesires to com"lete the term. 2ut he shall bear the cost of their food and clothin oneFuitable terms. ?o soul shall ha4e a burden laid on it reater than it can bear. ?o mothershall be !reated unfairly on account of her child. ?or father on account of his child, anheir shall be char eable in the same way. If they both decide on weanin , by mutualconsent, and after due consultation, there is no blame on them. If ye decide on a foster@mother for your offs"rin , there is no blame on you, "ro4ided ye "ay $the mother% whatye offered, on eFuitable terms. 2ut fear Allah and #now that Allah sees well what ye do.

    %& ! If any of you die and lea4e widows behind, they shall wait concernin themsel4esfour months and ten days 3hen they ha4e fulfilled their term, there is no blame on you ifthey dis"ose of themsel4es in a 8ust and reasonable manner. And Allah is well acFuaintedwith what ye do.

    %& ! !here is no blame on you if ye di4orce women before consummation or the fi ationof their dower; but bestow on them $A suitable ift%, the wealthy accordin to his means,and the "oor accordin to his means;@ A ift of a reasonable amount is due from thosewho wish to do the ri ht thin .

    %&*! And if ye di4orce them before consummation, but after the fi ation of a dower forthem, then the half of the dower $Is due to them%, unless they remit it or $the man s half%is remitted by him in whose hands is the marria e tie; and the remission $of the man shalf% is the nearest to ri hteousness. And do not for et 1iberality between yoursel4es. 9orAllah sees well all that ye do.

    %&-! Guard strictly your $habit of% "rayers, es"ecially the Middle Prayer; and stand beforeAllah in a de4out $frame of mind%.

    %&.! If ye fear $an enemy%, "ray on foot, or ridin , $as may be most con4enient%, but whenye are in security, celebrate Allah.s "raises in the manner 7e has tau ht you, which ye#new not $before%.

    % /! !hose of you who die and lea4e widows should beFueath for their widows a year smaintenance and residence; but if they lea4e $!he residence%, there is no blame on youfor what they do with themsel4es, "ro4ided it is reasonable. And Allah is B alted in

    % ! : ye who belie4e= cancel not your charity by reminders of your enerosity or byin8ury,@ li#e those who s"end their substance to be seen of men, but belie4e neither inAllah nor in the 1ast Day. !hey are in "arable li#e a hard, barren roc#, on which is a littlesoil on it falls hea4y rain, which lea4es it $Just% a bare stone. !hey will be able to donothin with au ht they ha4e earned. And Allah uideth not those who re8ect faith.

    % ! And the li#eness of those who s"end their substance, see#in to "lease Allah and tostren then their souls, is as a arden, hi h and fertile hea4y rain falls on it but ma#es ityield a double increase of har4est, and if it recei4es not 7ea4y rain, li ht moisture

    sufficeth it. Allah seeth well whate4er ye do.

Does any of you wish that he should ha4e a arden with date@"alms and 4ines andstreams flowin underneath, and all #inds of fruit, while he is stric#en with old a e, andhis children are not stron $enou h to loo# after themsel4es%@ that it should be cau ht in awhirlwind, with fire therein, and be burnt u"> !hus doth Allah ma#e clear to you $7is%Si ns; that ye may consider.

    % *! : ye who belie4e= Gi4e of the ood thin s which ye ha4e $honourably% earned, andof the fruits of the earth which 3e ha4e "roduced for you, and do not e4en aim at ettinanythin which is bad, in order that out of it ye may i4e away somethin , when ye

    yoursel4es would not recei4e it e ce"t with closed eyes. And #now that Allah is 9ree ofall wants, and worthy of all "raise.

    % -! !he B4il one threatens you with "o4erty and bids you to conduct unseemly. Allah "romiseth you 7is for i4eness and bounties. And Allah careth for all and 7e #noweth allthin s.

    % .! 7e ranteth wisdom to whom 7e "leaseth; and he to whom wisdom is rantedrecei4eth indeed a benefit o4erflowin ; but none will ras" the Messa e but men ofunderstandin .

    %*/! And whate4er ye s"end in charity or de4otion, be sure Allah #nows it all. 2ut thewron @doers ha4e no hel"ers.

    %*#! If ye disclose $acts of% charity, e4en so it is well, but if ye conceal them, and ma#ethem reach those $really% in need, that is best for you It will remo4e from you some ofyour $stains of% e4il. And Allah is well acFuainted with what ye do.

    %*.! If ye do it not, !a#e notice of war from Allah and 7is Messen er. 2ut if ye turn bac#, ye shall ha4e your ca"ital sums Deal not un8ustly, and ye shall not be dealt withun8ustly.

    %-/! If the debtor is in a difficulty, rant him time !ill it is easy for him to re"ay. 2ut ifye remit it by way of charity, that is best for you if ye only #new.

    %-#! And fear the Day when ye shall be brou ht bac# to Allah. !hen shall e4ery soul be "aid what it earned, and none shall be dealt with un8ustly.

    .! 1et those $dis"osin of an estate% ha4e the same fear in their minds as they would ha4efor their own if they had left a hel"less family behind 1et them fear Allah, and s"ea#words of a""ro"riate $comfort%.

    #/! !hose who un8ustly eat u" the "ro"erty of or"hans, eat u" a 9ire into their own bodies !hey will soon be endurin a 2la in 9ire=

    ##! Allah $thus% directs you as re ards your Children s $Inheritance% to the male, a "ortion eFual to that of two females if only dau hters, two or more, their share is two@thirds of the inheritance; if only one, her share is a half. 9or "arents, a si th share of theinheritance to each, if the deceased left children; if no children, and the "arents are the$only% heirs, the mother has a third; if the deceased 1eft brothers $or sisters% the motherhas a si th. $!he distribution in all cases $ s% after the "ayment of le acies and debts. Ee#now not whether your "arents or your children are nearest to you in benefit. !hese aresettled "ortions ordained by Allah. and Allah is All@#nowin , All@wise.

    #%! In what your wi4es lea4e, your share is a half, if they lea4e no child; but if they lea4ea child, ye et a fourth; after "ayment of le acies and debts. In what ye lea4e, their share

    ! If ye $but% eschew the most heinous of the thin s which ye are forbidden to do, 3eshall e "el out of you all the e4il in you, and admit you to a ate of reat honour.

    &%! And in no wise co4et those thin s in which Allah 7ath bestowed 7is ifts Morefreely on some of you than on others !o men is allotted what they earn, and to womenwhat they earn 2ut as# Allah of 7is bounty. 9or Allah hath full #nowled e of all thin s.

Ser4e Allah, and 8oin not any "artners with 7im; and do ood@ to "arents, #insfol#,or"hans, those in need, nei hbours who are near, nei hbours who are stran ers, thecom"anion by your side, the wayfarer $ye meet%, and what your ri ht hands "ossess 9orAllah lo4eth not the arro ant, the 4ain lorious;@

    &*! $?or% those who are ni ardly or en8oin ni ardliness on others, or hide the bountieswhich Allah hath bestowed on them; for 3e ha4e "re"ared, for those who resist 9aith, a

    "unishment that stee"s them in contem"t;@

    &-! ?ot those who s"end of their substance, to be seen of men, but ha4e no faith in Allahand the 1ast Day If any ta#e the B4il :ne for their intimate, what a dreadful intimate heis=

    &.! And what burden 3ere it on them if they had faith in Allah and in the 1ast Day, andthey s"ent out of what Allah hath i4en them for sustenance> 9or Allah hath full#nowled e of them.

    /! Allah is ne4er un8ust in the least de ree If there is any ood $done%, 7e doubleth it,and i4eth from 7is own "resence a reat reward.

    #! 7ow then if 3e brou ht from each "eo"le a witness, and 3e brou ht thee as awitness a ainst these "eo"le=

    %! :n that day those who re8ect 9aith and disobey the a"ostle will wish that the earth3ere made one with them 2ut ne4er will they hide a sin le fact from Allah.

    &! : ye who belie4e= A""roach not "rayers with a mind befo ed, until ye canunderstand all that ye say,@ nor in a state of ceremonial im"urity $B ce"t when tra4ellinon the road%, until after washin your whole body. If ye are ill, or on a 8ourney, or one ofyou cometh from offices of nature, or ye ha4e been in contact with women, and ye find

    no water, then ta#e for yoursel4es clean sand or earth, and rub therewith your faces andhands. 9or Allah doth blot out sins and for i4e a ain and a ain.

    ! 7ast thou not turned !hy 4ision to those who were i4en a "ortion of the 2oo#> theytraffic in error, and wish that ye should lose the ri ht "ath.

If Allah had "leased, 7e could ha4e i4en them "ower o4eryou, and they would ha4e fou ht you !herefore if they withdraw from you but fi ht younot, and $instead% send you $Guarantees of% "eace, then Allah 7ath o"ened no way foryou $to war a ainst them%.

    .#! :thers you will find that wish to ain your confidence as well as that of their "eo"leB4ery time they are sent bac# to tem"tation, they succumb thereto if they withdraw not

    $Com"ensation is due% If one $so% #ills a belie4er, it is ordained that he should free a belie4in sla4e, and "ay com"ensation to the deceased s family, unless they remit itfreely. If the deceased belon ed to a "eo"le at war with you, and he was a belie4er, thefreein of a belie4in sla4e $Is enou h%. If he belon ed to a "eo"le with whom ye ha4etreaty of Mutual alliance, com"ensation should be "aid to his family, and a belie4insla4e be freed. 9or those who find this beyond their means, $is "rescribed% a fast for twomonths runnin by way of re"entance to Allah. for Allah hath all #nowled e and allwisdom.

    .&! If a man #ills a belie4er intentionally, his recom"ense is 7ell, to abide therein $9ore4er% And the wrath and the curse of Allah are u"on him, and a dreadful "enalty is

    as uided by Allah. so be not $used% as an ad4ocate by those who betray their trust;
