HISTORIC SITE

On July 18, 2015, Crailo State Historic Site will be hosting anopen hearth cooking demonstration with costumed interpretersfrom 12:00-3:00 pm. The cooks will prepare waffles, cheese,olicooks, sappaen and discuss seasonal food preparation andtechniques with the public. Learn how the hearth, fire andutensils were used to prepare food while standing in a cellarwhich dates, on part, to the 17th century. The event cost $5/$3 for Friends of Fort Crailo. The museum will be available foropen house style tours during the event. Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center is offering a Jun-ior Naturalist Series this summer for kids of all ages throughAugust 28th. Each Tuesday-afternoon program will offer a dif-ferent theme and will run from 1pm – 2:30pm. Each programwill offer unique ecology-centered activities. The series kicksoff with “Insects” on July 14th. Birds, Beaks and Songs JuniorNaturalist Program will be held on July 21st from 1:00pm –2:30pm. Naturalists will use their senses to seek out the feath-ered flyers at Dyken Pond Center and learn to identify commonbirds by their songs as they hike to some popular bird areas.The day will end with a fun, pinecone bird craft. $1 suggesteddonation per child.
