Water Technologies & Solutions customer benefits

Solus* AP advanced boiler all-polymer internal treatment technology value proposition

Solus AP All-Polymer technology is the latest advance in boiler scale control and internal treatment technology from SUEZ, and is designed to meet the needs of modern low-to-intermediate pressure steam boilers up to 900 psig.

The Solus AP internal treatment platform is based on the patented SUEZ Boiler Terpolymer (BTP), which provides for highly effective control of deposit formation on boiler heat transfer surfaces, even under stressed conditions such as feedwater hardness upsets or high levels of iron corrosion product loading. Specifically, the SUEZ Boiler Terpolymer in Solus AP provides enhanced control or iron oxide, magnesium and silica deposition versus traditional polymers, and measurably improved transport and rejection of these contaminants to the boiler blowdown.

A properly designed Solus AP internal treatment program can assist boiler operators in maintaining design levels of fuel-to-steam efficiency, and in maintaining maximum reliability and availability of their steam generation assets.

benefits Superior deposit control and contaminant rejection performance

A Solus AP internal treatment program provides improved deposit control of both hardness and iron oxide scale at the critical boiling heat transfer surface, as well as markedly improved rejection of iron, silica and magnesium contaminants with the boiler blowdown versus conventional polymer technology.

Figures 1A, 1B, 2, 3 and 4 illustrate the effectiveness Solus AP based on a comprehensive evaluation performed in the SUEZ Research Boilers. This superb performance has now been validated in a number of field applications, as shown in the boiler inspection photos presented in Figures 6 and 7 below.

Enhanced boiler efficiency – By preventing the formation of insulating deposits on critical boiler heat transfer & steam generating surfaces, fuel-to-steam efficiency is maintained at or near design levels.

Improved reliability & availability – Excessive deposit formation on evaporative heat transfer surfaces and in critical steam/water flow circuits can result in boiler tube failures due to overheating, under-deposit corrosion or flow restrictions. Beyond

the cost of repairs is the very significant impact on critical steam-driven production processes and comfort heating.

Reduced boiler sludge accumulation – With less effective internal treatment programs, contaminant rejection rates to blowdown may be marginal. In such cases, iron and hardness deposits can accumulate in the lower circuits of the boiler. The cumulative effect of these deposits can result in restricted steam-water flow and failure in steam generating tubes. In contrast, Solus AP very effectively transports both hardness and iron contaminants through the boiler, rejecting them to the blowdown, and significantly reducing the potential for flow circuit restriction due to sludge accumulation.

Feedwater upset recovery - The advanced Boiler Terpolymer chemistry in Solus AP can also assist in the recovery from feedwater or condensate upsets that form deposits on critical heat transfer surfaces. A timely response with temporarily enhanced levels of Solus AP can facilitate the removal of recently formed scale deposits. This reduces the probability of tube failures due to overheating or under-deposit corrosion, while restoring fuel-to-steam efficiency to pre-upset levels.

Convenience & simplicity - Eliminate multiple internal treatment products with a properly designed Solus AP program. In addition to the unique blend of polymers and convenient product tracer for control and testing, the Solus AP portfolio contains products which provide alkalinity builder for maintenance of proper internal boiler pH and buffer conditions.

Ease of application - Solus AP products are stable, easily-handled liquids that are fully compatible with both manual and automated feed systems.

Compatibility with SUEZ’s Feedwater First – Solus AP technology is fully compatible with SUEZ’s unique Feedwater First feed-control automation system for maximum protection against hardness upsets.

Flexibility and forgiveness - The high-performance, patented Boiler Terpolymer (BTP) in Solus AP provides a level of flexibility and forgiveness that competitive all-polymer programs cannot match, especially with respect to control of iron and hardness-based deposits.

Delivery system flexibility - Solus AP products are available in a wide variety of customized containers and delivery methods, including ChemSure* Drumless Delivery Services. Contact your SUEZ representative to discuss the system that best matches your needs.

No treatment-related fouling - Another advantage of Solus AP treatment programs is that of forgiveness. Unlike certain competitive all-polymer programs, the Boiler Terpolymer (BTP) in Solus AP will not form deposits with hardness or iron (treatment related fouling) at the extremes of either treatment or contaminant concentrations which may occur under system upset and/or treatment overfeed conditions.
