WEEK 1

NUMERACY:

To skip count in 2, 3, 5 from 0 and in tens from any number forward and backward.

LITERACY:

To identify fantasy stories and explore their features through role play.

To spell and use words ending in –il…pencil, fossil, nostrils. To describe and specify nouns using expanded noun phrases.

SCIENCE:

To identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses, by identifying the uses of different materials.

To identify and group the uses of everyday materials and record observations.

TOPIC:

To understand the term Literacy.

FRENCH:

How was Christmas?

What did we eat? drink? Where did we travel to? What places did we visit?

P.E:

Athletics: 1km Endurance trek and Introduction to Sprints. To help the children bounce back to a healthy and physical state for sporting activities this term using mild outdoor activities.

SWIMMING:

To Investigate the location of Kenya on the map of Africa.

MUSIC:

To investigate the rudiments of using the voice expressively.

To revise the art of recorder playing.

WEEK 2 NUMERACY:

To solve problems involving multiplication and division, using materials, arrays, repeated addition, mental methods, and multiplication and division facts including problems in context.

LITERACY:

To plan and write own story involving fantasy. To use and spell words with the /^/ sound spelt o…other, brother, Monday. To use commas after or before phrases and clauses.

SCIENCE:

To create hypotheses and make predictions about the absorbency of different kitchen paper and

disposable clothes. To investigate which papers are the most absorbent by choosing a method and working in a group.

TOPIC:

To use simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of their school and its grounds. To identify the key human and physical features of their school and its surrounding environments.

FRENCH:

To learn how to introduce others.

P.E:

Athletics: 60m, 75m, 100m Sprints and 75m Sack Race. To refresh and build upon the children’s knowledge of the sprints starting, strides, speed and finishing skills.

To order and arrange mathematical objects in patterns and sequences.

To use mathematical vocabulary to describe position, direction and movement, including movement in a straight line.

LITERACY:

To identify and explore the features of a recount text. To use and spell the /i: / sound spelt –ey. To explore and use subordination (using when, if, that, because) to link sentences.

SCIENCE:

To look at a selection of fabric and understand why the stretchy fabric is sometimes used in clothing. To investigate and explore the elasticity of the fabric and make predictions.

TOPIC:

To compare geographical similarities and differences of the human geography of Cardiff, Wales and

Abuja, Nigeria.

FRENCH:

To learn different vegetables and fruits.

P.E:

Athletics: Broad Jump/Standing Jump, Standing Triple Jump, Long Jump and Vortex Howler/Javelin. To

build upon the children’s legs strides and arms power techniques training for jumping and throwing skills using appropriate training program.

WEEK 4

NUMERACY:

To distinguish between rotation as a turn and in terms of right angles for quarter, half and three-quarter

turns (clockwise and anti-clockwise).

LITERACY:

To write own recount using time connectives to sequence events and correctly demarcate sentences. To use and spell words with the /a/ sound spelt after ‘w’ and ‘q’…water, quantity, squash.

To use the present and past tenses correctly and consistently including the progressive form.

SCIENCE:

To make decisions about how to record the results of the investigation in a clear way for others to follow To understand that, if a material does not absorb water, it is said to be waterproof.

TOPIC:

To use aerial photographs and plan perspectives to recognise landmarks and basic human and physical features; devise a simple map, and use and construct basic symbols in a key (series of maps can be provided, even use grid references to locate features).

FRENCH:

To learn the primary and secondary colours. What colours are the vegetables we learned about?

WEEK 5 NUMERACY:

To recognise, find, name and write fractions ⅓, ¼, 2/4, ¾ of a length, shape, set of objects and quantity.

LITERACY

To identify and memorise poems by the same significant authors.

To use and spell words ending in –tion. To use the present and past tenses correctly and consistently including the progressive form.

SCIENCE:

To investigate the absorbency of fabrics and the effect of adding a layer of wax crayon. To discuss the findings and consider the reasons for fabrics being waterproof.

NUMERACY:

To count in fractions up to 10 starting from any number and using the ½ and 2/4 equivalence on the number line. To begin to recognise the equivalence of 2/4 & ½ on the number line and other practical contexts.
