WHAT IS INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE?It’s sometimes hard to see how areas of our lives, such as relationships and communication and professional development, relate to the bigger picture of health, but they’re key players. Duke Integrative Medicine’s model places you, not your symptoms, at the center of your health, surrounds you with self-care and supports both conventional and complementary health care approaches.

FOR THE DO IT YOURSELF-ERS:There are millions of books and websites on health and well-being, and we can fill our baskets at Whole Foods. It’s also easy to just say, “I feel fine. I must be really healthy,” and order the third round of french fries. Without a greater vision to tie efforts to, the inner-critic often creeps in when we struggle to make changes that “should” be easy. In these moments, support, accountability and deep listening of a neutral, non-judging party unpacks what really needs attention. Integrative health coaching clarifies which changes need to happen first and identifies areas where precious resources are spent on what is no longer serving your health.

We’re bombarded with health information to sort through. Then there’s the issue of how to apply it and make behavior changes that persist over time. How do we make healthy living work, with potential conflicting priorities, such as jobs and family responsibilities?

As a Pilates and movement instructor, I’ve enjoyed supporting clients in all stages of life and health, many of whom struggle with work/life balance, life transitions and body image. I recognize the demands placed on busy working professionals, single parents, travelers, and those in the great transitions of adolescence, career change, chronic illness, pregnancy and menopause. “Health aficionados” have also benefited from my coaching and movement work to optimize health outcomes.
