Challenges We want to improve the social cohesion by designing several projects in different areas of Saint-Gilles. We also want to connect the people in the neighborhood. Areas Challenges
Botanical Garden Garden closed for the public
Soundstation Closed and abandoned building
Saint-Gilles street Shops mostly for students. No diversity.
Square with the blue benches Not attractive set up and construction work.
OpportunitiesWe want to work on different areas to improve Saint-
Gilles as a neighbourhood. The student have lessons together besides the project time.

Areas Opportunities
Botanical Garden A lot of space and green area in the neighbourhood.
Soundstation It’s connected to the railway, It used to be a place to go out.
Saint-Gilles street - There are a few special shops left. - Connected with the centre of Liege.
Square with the blue benches It’s a cozy place between buildings + Restaurant.

MethodologyWe create 4 groups of students both product design and social work and give every group it’s own project area to work in.
They will examine the different area's in a field research to see the opportunities and challenges (interviews, mapping, etc). We also use different methods from the Sustainable Summer School and from the faculty Social Work of Zuyd.
Action planWeek 1: orientation of the area. If it’s possible: sleep over in St. Gilles.Week 2: contact with the area. Contacting and interviewing people for
research. Week 3: task; needs research of the neighborhood and the have to
present this in a creative way.Week 4: translate needs into a project of the area they work on. Week 5: how to finance your project and how do you want to involve the
inhabitants.Week 6: working time. Week 7: further shaping/designing the project. Week 8: do the project in St. Gilles. Week 9: evaluation of the projectsWeek 10: re-examination week
