Very truly yours,Mike CowgillWeatherford Thompson et al2015-2016 Board Chair

“BACK TO SCHOOL AND WORK” As the summer days grow shorter and we look forward to the beginning of fall, we are all reminded of the crisp fall air and the beginning of a new school year and back to work after enjoying a very warm and terrifi c Oregon summer.

As Chamber members, let’s all step up to the plate and do our best to support our local students, teachers, and administrators as the academic year begins. Education is the foundation of a strong community. Strong schools attract young couples with children which in turn attract business and local industry. Education and business go hand-in-hand.

There are many ways to support our schools. Please consider volunteering your time and energy to help your local school with an upcoming event or help sponsor an event to raise funds for your school. Other alternatives include supporting the Albany Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, or many other non-profi t organizations which provide support to our local students and schools.

Personally, I would like to thank Serve, INC. and the army of volunteer workers who descended upon Fir Grove Primary School in North Albany on Saturday, July 11th to give the property and school building a face lift by painting and landscaping the school grounds. The transformation of Fir Grove in one day was truly remarkable. The re-opening of Fir Grove is welcome news and the new students, parents, and teachers are very appreciative of the efforts of Serve, INC. and its volunteers.

Your Chamber is fully engaged in developing and supporting the Workforce Development and Pipeline program. This public-private partnership will educate and train local students and provide them with the technical skills necessary to fi ll a variety of skilled employment positions in the Albany area. These skilled jobs are family-wage jobs complete with a full array of employment benefi ts. Visit the website www.PipelineToJobs.com to learn more about this terrifi c program.

This month’s trivia question is set forth below:

What person who spoke at an Albany Chamber of Commerce event was later elected President of the United States?

Your answer to the question must be submitted to the Albany Chamber of Commerce offi ce by September 30, 2015.

Be sure to check out the new website www.pipelinetojobs.com. How does Pipeline it work? The people who provide the jobs have partnered with the people who help you get ready for the jobs. One of our on going activities is taking students on tours of local manufacturers and the Industrial Technology programs at Linn Benton Community College and this has made an impact. LBCC programs are fi lling up which will develop a skilled and educated workforce for local employers.

“The LBCC Welding and Fabrication Technology Program fi lled approximately two months earlier this year than last year, and I know that your excellent student recruiting efforts played a big part in making that happen. Thank you for all that you have done to help. Greatly appreciated!”Dean Dowless, Chair and FacultyWelding Technology DepartmentLinn-Benton Community College

“We currently have fi lled our welding program and have started fi lling a wait list, our mechatronics and machine tool programs have fi lled their core courses to date and we are looking at extending class size and offering more labs. There has been increases in our other programs of CADD (computer aided drafting and design) and WET (water environment technology) - across the board an increase of approximately 50% compared to last year….. Looking forward to the coming year and in the future as we expand and repurpose our facilities.” David R. September Forum Luncheon Speaker

Todd Stansbury

Todd Stansbury was named vice president and director of athletics at Oregon State University June 18, 2015, rejoining the Pac-12 Conference institution after serving as the Beavers’ executive associate athletic director from February 2003 to January 2012.

During his previous tenure at Oregon State, Stansbury was part of the senior leadership team that led a renaissance of Oregon State athletics. The Beavers played in eight bowl games; the baseball team won two College World Series titles; and nearly every program advanced to postseason play while Stansbury was in Corvallis during his fi rst stint. He was also instrumental in fundraising for the $150 million Reser Stadium expansion, the reintroduction of the women’s track and fi eld program, the renovation of Goss Stadium at Coleman Field, and the construction of the Sports Performance Center, the Beth Ray Student Success Center, the OSU Boathouse and the Whyte Track and Field Center.

While the 54-year-old Stansbury has led high-profile coaching searches, facility expansion and construction projects during his athletics career, he also has been instrumental as a leader of student-athlete growth on and off the fi eld. He is part of a team that developed several key lifeskills career development initiatives at OSU. These include the Everyday Champions program which encompasses the Leadership Institute, Varsity OSU and the international service program Beavers Without Borders, among others.

Stansbury is among the most experienced administrators in the NCAA. His work includes serving on numerous national and conference boards, including the Football Oversight Committee, the American Athletic Conference Finance Committee and several UCF boards.

With his leadership skills, wealth of experience and integrity, Oregon State athletics will continue to be a source of pride for Beaver Nation and be a competitor for conference and national championships while maintaining a strong emphasis on academic excellence.

Mortgage Loan Originator True Mortgage, Inc.

Personal Background: Laura studied Business Administration at LBCC and graduated in 2010. She began her fi nancial career at Greyson Financial Services, Inc., starting as an assistant meeting clients, coordinating schedules and assisting with property inspections. After getting some experience out in the fi eld she transitioned into Loan Processing. After about 18 months of loan processing, she began studying to obtain her state licensing for mortgage loan origination which she completed the beginning of this year.

Business Marketing Niche: At True Mortgage, Inc we focus on private money bridge loans. Our loans are for business purposes only. We work with builders to help provide them fi nancing for brand new construction. Also with the foreclosure rates having been so high the banks are beginning to release those properties back on the market, so we can provide fi nancing for the properties that don't qualify for conventional fi nancing. Then are clients can rehabilitate the properties and turn them for a profi t or use them as investment properties and allow them to stabilize rents and refi nance through a more conventional source. We can provide fi nancing for many other things but construction and rehab loans are our bread & butter.

Chamber Involvement: Laura has been involved in Greeters since joining the Albany Chamber of Commerce, and is looking forward to being apart of this year’s Albany Business Extravaganza in September.
