Who areCityCare?

The School Nursing Team

The School Nursing Team is led by aSpecialist Public Health Nurse andincludes Registered Nurses; NurseryNurses; Health Care Assistants andAdministrators.

We work alongside a variety ofprofessionals including teachers;parents; carers; children and youngpeople to promote and maintain goodhealth.

We are an ‘all year round service’ forall 5-19 year olds and work in schools;health centres; homes and othervenues to meet the needs of childrenand their families.

Young people have a rightto speak to a health professionaland it be confidential exceptwhere there is a risk to themselvesor others. However, we alwaysencourage young people to speakto their parent or carer.

Our Services

These services are offered for everychild and young person in NottinghamSchools:

Primary School

ReceptionA health questionnaire will be sent toyou about your child’s health. Your childwill be weighed and measured withyour consent as part of the NationalChild Measurement Programme.

Year 6Your child will be measured again.

Secondary School

Year 7A health questionnaire will be sent toyou about your child’s health. There willbe an assembly in school to explain therole of the school nurse.

Your child will be asked to complete ahealth questionnaire.

Year 8All girls will receive the HPV (HumanPapilloma Virus) immunisation to protectthem from forms of cervical cancer.

Year 9All young people will be asked to complete a ‘mid-teen’ healthquestionnaire.

Drop-in ServicesEvery child and young person will have access to a regular, confidentialdrop-in service provided by a nurse.

Additional Services

We can provide advice, support andsignposting to services for thefollowing:

• Healthy eating• Weight management• Emotional health and wellbeing• Behaviour support• Self harm• Eating Disorders• Smoking cessation• Drugs and alcohol• Puberty and hygiene• Dental health• Keeping safe• Sexual health• Domestic violence• Continence/Constipation• Young carers• General health promotion

These services can be offered on a one to one or group basis
