Lyrics for Les Champs-ElyséesJe m'baladais sur l'avenue le coeur ouvert a l'inconnu

(I was strolling down the avenue, my heart ready for the unexpected)

J'avais envie de dire bonjour à n'importe qui(I wanted to say hello it didn't matter to whom)

N'importe qui et ce fût toi, je t'ai dit n'importe quoi(It didn't matter to whom and it turned out to be you,

I told you whatever – it didn't matter what)

Il suffisait de te parler, pour t'apprivoiser.(It was enough just to talk to you, to win you over.)

REFRAIN(audience sings!)

Aux Champs-Elysées, aux Champs-Elysées,( On the Champs-Elysees, on the Champs-Elysees)

Au soleil, sous la pluie, à midi ou à minuit,(When it's sunny, when it's raining, at noon or at midnight)

Il ya tout ce que vous voulez aux Champs-Elysées(There is everything you could want on the Champs-Elysees)

Tu m'a dit, “J'ai rendez-vous dans un sous-sol avec des fous,(You told me, “ I am getting together in a basement with crazy people)

Qui vivent la guitarre à la main, du soir au matin”.(who live with guitar in hand from evening to morning”.)

Alors, je t'ai accompagnée, on a chanté, on a dansé,(So, I came along with you, we sang, we danced)

Et l'on n'a même pas pensé à s'embrasser.(and we didn't even think about kissing each other)

REFRAIN- Aux Champs Elysées, etc.

Hier soir deux inconnus et ce matin sur l'avenue(Yesterday evening we were two strangers and this morning along the avenue)

Deux amoreux tout étourdis par la longue nuit.(Two lovers altogether exhausted from the long night)

Et de L'Etoile à la concorde, un orchestre à mille cordes,(and from the Place de' Etoile to the Place de la Concorde, an orchestra of a

thousand strings)

Tous les oiseaux du point du jour chantent l'amour(All the birds at daybreak are singing of love.)

REFRAIN- Aux Champs Elysées, etc.

For Children at their First Concert

W elcome! We’re glad you've come to the concert! To help make the concert more enjoyable for you and for others, here are a few tips:

Be sure to be very quiet while the musicians play. Talking or making noiseduring the concert disturbs other people listening to the music and also makesit hard for the musicians to concentrate. Just as you need a blank piece ofpaper on which to draw a picture, the musicians need silence to create their“musical” pictures.Watch the musicians play their instruments, and listen to the sounds you

hear. Each instrument makes its own unique sound. See if you can pick outwhich instrument is playing the main tune at any moment. The conductor (thefellow standing and waving his hands) will often clue you in as he points to-wards different instruments in the orchestra. How does the music make you feel? Some music is slow and sad, and

some music is fast and happy, but not all slow music is sad, and not all fastmusic is happy. There will be many moods to explore as the music unfolds—enjoy them all!

When a piece of music has ended, be sure to applaud to let the musiciansknow that you liked the music they played for you. If you REALLY liked it, youcan even stand up and shout, “Bravo!” That's an Italian word that we use tomean “Fantastic!” If you are not sure whether or not a piece is over, watch tosee when everyone else applauds before you join in the applause. After the concert is over, talk to your family and friends about it. Did they

like the same parts that you did? Feel free to read more about music, and especially listen to more music. There is so much for your eyes and ears todiscover!

We hope you enjoy what you see and hear at the concert today and hopeyou will come back to enjoy our concerts again and again!

Thank you to all those

volunteers who have helped us before, during,

and after our concerts this year!

About the Howard County Concert Orchestra

T he Howard County Concert Orchestra was formed to provide Howard County with a completely professional orchestra, dedicated

to exceptional performances of classical music from the Baroque era to the21st century.

This is a chamber orchestra different from a symphony orchestra, com-posed of a smaller number of musicians, from as few as eight to as many asforty five professional musicians selected from a wealth of regional talent. As such, the orchestra has the versatility to perform music written originallyfor smaller forces as well as music written for larger symphony orchestras, but with greater clarity, highlighting the unique sound of each instrumentand bringing an intimacy and attention to detail not otherwise possible.

Approach to Concert Planning

H CCO’s approach to concert planning is to provide Howard Countyand the region with music of consequential community interest

such as an annual celebration of a different nationality and culture in ourNew Year’s concerts, concerts devoted to important historical and sociallysignificant events, and concerts highlighting the talents of area professionalsand our talented youth. The goal is to provide a range of music spanningthe Baroque era up to the present, including the promotion and perform-ance of new music by living composers. Through our partnerships withother arts organizations, we plan to provide a unique mix of music, dance, and theater.

Educational Outreach

T he Howard County Concert Orchestra (HCCO) has a small traveling ensemble that will come to your school and provide music learning

journeys for your students. The professional musicians of HCCO use theirexpertise to guide and improve the quality of education to those in musicclasses and in partnership with the Howard County School System. We provide consistent educational outreach to the county’s school populationassisting and bolstering established music programs in the schools, buildingnew ones as the need arises, and providing performance opportunities toour talented youth from this county.
