8th Grade Certificate of Completion Requirements
! ALL Academically eligible students will earn a district-approved Certificate of Completion. ! Students must earn 50 credits in 8th grade to be
academically eligible for a Certificate of Completion. ! Students earn 5 credits for each semester course with a mark
of “D” or better. ! Participation in the culmination ceremony will be
determined based on the marks earned in all subject areas in eighth grade AND additional school-based criteria.
Participation in 8th Grade Culmination
! Grades ! Participation in culmination will be determined based on the letter
grades earned in all courses – core and elective. Students must: " Earn 50 credits. No more than two Fails entire 8th grade school year. " Earn positive marks in Cooperation and Work Habits.
" No more than two ‘Us’ in Cooperation and no more than two ‘Us’ in Work Habits as part of the final grades issued in BOTH the Fall and the Spring semesters of 8th grade.
! Discipline ! Frequent or serious violations of school regulations can disqualify a
student from participating in culmination and other 8th grade activities.

Participation in 8th Grade Culmination
! Attendance ! Maintain an attendance rate of 96% or higher. No more than 7
absences during the entire school year. ! Other Obligations
! Students must clear all obligations including textbooks, fundraising obligations, cafeteria charges, and library books.
Appeal Process
If a student does not meet the minimum culmination activity or certificate of completion requirements, the student or parent/guardian may appeal by following the procedures listed below. Considerations may include extenuating circumstances that affect attendance and/or academic achievement or demonstrating significant improvement in the eighth grade.
! The student or parent/guardian completes the Appeal Form stating why the student did not meet the requirements for the certificate or for participating in the culmination activity.
! A Culmination Appeals Committee shall be convened at the school to review appeals.
! The Principal will review and sign the letter stating the committee’s decision. ! The committee response shall be provided in writing and by phone within three
school days following the appeal.
Appeals apply only to participation in culmination. It does NOT apply to 8th Grade Activities or events.
