ASK THE FRAUD TEAM
Reprinted from the AARP Bulletin
June 2021 Edition
I keep getting antivirus software subscrip-tion emails from a company I have never done business with. What is going on? Most likely, it is a business impostor scam that’s trying to confuse you. Never respond to any unsolicited emails or text messages saying that your credit card has been charged. Usually, the criminals will include a phone number to call or a link to click on that will lead you to a bogus site. Delete these contacts. An email survey that appears to be from one of the vaccine manufacturers offered me a prize to fill it out. Is this ligit? We have received many complaints about vaccine-related surveys that reference phar-maceutical companies but are not actually from them. Do not answer it or click on any links. It is likely an attempt to collect your personal information to commit iden-tity theft or to download malware to your computer. Delete!
ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
Exercise For People over 60 Begin by standing on a comfortable surface where you have plenty of room at each side. With a 5lb potato bag in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax. Each day you’ll find you can hold this posi-tion for just a bit longer. After a couple weeks, move up to 10lb pota-to bags. Then try 50lb potato bags and eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100lb potato bag in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full mi-nute. After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag!

Tips to Stay Safe During
a Heat Wave A dangerous heat wave is enveloping the Pacific Northwest in the United States. High tempera-tures are shattering records. It is relatively easy to prevent adverse health effects during a heat wave. A Heat Wave occurs in a region when abnor-mally high temperatures are recorded over a long period of time. Temperatures stay high enough overnight, making the environment highly uncomfortable. During the last few years, the world has experienced the warmest temperatures on record. So what is a person to do? One thing you can do is have a heat wave safety plan. Here are five heat wave safety tips to help you deal with the dangers. 1. Dress for the Weather. Wear loose, light-
colored clothing. This will help protect your skin from sunburn and help absorb sweat to keep you a little cooler. Be sure to protect your face, hands and other exposed skin.
2. Avoid Strenuous Outdoor Activities. If pos-sible, take part in outdoor activities in the morning before it gets too hot.
3. Stay Hydrated! Moisture loss due to perspi-ration has to be replenished regularly. Drink water even if you don’t think you are thirsty.
4. Keep Cool. If you can, stay indoors where there is air conditioning. Clovis and Fresno have cooling centers if you need to go some-where to get cooled off when temperatures are 105 degrees or higher.
5. Protect those Most at Risk. Heat-related illness can affect anyone, but some people are particularly at risk. Check on friends and family regularly to be sure they are safe.
A heat stroke is a medical emergency,. If you or someone else has a temperature of 103 degrees or higher—call 911. Reprinted from HowStuffWorks.com
