Festival! Each year, the festival officially kicks off the spring season in Atlanta. (This year, we worried spring

might never come!) Did you know the Atlanta Dogwood Festival is third oldest fine arts festival in the country

and the city’s oldest outdoor festival? After nearly eight decades, we have refined our offerings to bring you three full days of fine art, live music, international entertainment, competing young artists, a disc dog competition, exciting rides and plenty to eat and drink. New this year is the VIP Experience Backyard Barbecue

& Brews, a ticketed event where you’ll get to sample the South’s finest culinary tradition. Enjoy the festival, and enjoy your spring!

The best way to get to the 78th Annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival is on MARTA. Shuttles will run from the Arts Center and Midtown stations. If you do drive, parking is available in the Campanile Parking Deck at 1155 Juniper Street and at the Sage Parking Facility operated by the Atlanta Botanical Garden. The Disc Dog Southern Nationals Qualifier tournament began at the Atlanta Dogwood Festival more than 23 years ago with only 10 competitors as a one-day event and has grown over the years to a two-day event. In two decades, it has become one of the most prestigious canine sporting events in the South and is now a worldwide premier US Disc Dog Nationals World Finals Qualifier. Since its inception, it has attracted teams from neighboring states and as far away as Japan. This year, competitors in the Disc Dog Southern Nationals will once again vie for five invitations to the Disc Dog World Finals in two divisions. You won’t want to miss this family friendly fur flying event! The Disc Dog competition is organized by WOOF! Each year, the festival hosts an award-winning Green Festival Initiative in partnership with Live Thrive Atlanta. We focus on sustainable operations like requiring food vendors to use only recyclable and compostable serving ware and our use of bio-diesel and/or bio-fuel for all generators at the event. While these green efforts are taking place behind the scenes, you can also visit the Eco-Village to learn about sustainability practices and meet organizations and businesses that help make homes, offices and the city in general a “greener” environment.

For the past three years, the Atlanta Dogwood Festival has brought home top honors for its Green Festival Initiative, being named Best Environmental Program by the International Festival and Events Association (IFEA) from 2011 to 2013. During those years, the festival has been able to divert nearly a ton of trash from landfills and has educated hundreds of thousands of attendees about how to make eco-friendly practices part of their daily lives.

Market Place: The Market Place is filled with sustainable vendors who explain why their products were created and demonstrate how they work.

Live Thrive Atlanta: Nonprofit sustainability organization Live Thrive Atlanta will explain how to properly dispose of that hard to handle waste that doesn’t fit into any of the boxes at your curb. livethrive.org

Girl Scouts of America: This year, the Girl Scouts will be onsite helping children plant veggies to take home. It’s a great way to incorporate agricultural knowledge and hopefully expand a few young palates!

Bhutan Baskets: Made by Nepalese refugees from locally harvested materials, the baskets sold at last year’s festival supported a refugeefamily for nearly a year.

Re:Loom: This amazing team of weavers produce handmade productsfrom donated fabric and old clothing.

Georgia Tech Solar Jackets: The techies will be back to show offtheir Solar Car!

Mike Snowden: Snowden will be onsite throughout the weekend entertaining attendees with his cigar box guitar.

In the Meadow, the Kids Jumpy Jumps area has active options like the Moonwalk, Spider Jump & Climb and the Shark Attack Slide.

Young festival visitors will find plenty to do in our Kids Village! Families, head to the Mayor’s Grove near the central playground for creative hands-on arts and crafts projects and interactive pursuits.

Ready to have some fast, spinning, whirling fun? Head to the Meadow to enjoy any – or maybe all – of the festival rides. For 2014, we’re bringing in the Giant Fun Slide, the Ion, a Merry Go Round, the Rockin’ Tug and the Mega Cat! Ticket booth is located in the Meadow.

An exciting addition to the festival this year is Kanga, a crowd-sourced local delivery solution that delivers items across metro Atlanta. Kanga will be onsite to handle festival-to-door delivery of art as well as art babysitting during the festival. Bring your Artist Market purchases to the Kanga booth (Kanga will even help carry purchases to the booth if requested) and schedule and pay for delivery to your home. What’s more, the Kanga Corral will allow you to drop off Artist Market purchases, which will be held at no charge while you continue to enjoy the festival. This means you won’t need to bypass that perfect piece of art that is too big to cart through the park or to get home on MARTA. Kanga will deliver any of the artwork purchased at the festival!

In a spacious tented area overlooking the Coca-Cola Main Stage, this all-inclusive outdoor tasting event showcases local craft beers,

The Atlanta Dogwood Festival is one of the largest and most diverse juried arts festivals in the country. More than 250 artists from around the country exhibit in 12 categories, including painting, glass, clay, wood and mixed media. Some of the country’s top painters, photographers, sculptors, leather and metal craftsmen, glass blowers and more participate in the Atlanta Dogwood Festival Artist Market. In 2012, the Artist Market was ranked #35, out of the Top 200 Shows in the Country by Sunshine Artist’s Magazine.

The Artist Market closes at 7 pm on Friday & Saturday.

Winner of 2012 and 2013 International Festivals & Events Association Silver Award for Best Educational Program and Bronze Award for Best Event Within an Event and 2011 and 2013 Southeast Festivals & Events Association Silver Award and 2014 Gold Award for Best Event Within an Event.

The festival is proud each year to sponsor the Atlanta High School Art Exhibition (AHSAE), which received over 700 entries from talented young artists throughout Atlanta and Georgia this year. You can see the best 117 works of art at the Atlanta High School Art Exhibition at the Atlanta Dogwood Festival.

Providing winners with nearly $40,000 in scholarships and prizes, the AHSAE, is a community-oriented feature of the festival that fills a growing gap in creative opportunities for youth and highlights the variety and breadth of Atlanta artistic talent. It has received national recognition for its impact on young artists.

For the third year the AHSAE hosts the “Art Throwdown,” a fast-paced onsite competition of area high school teams who compete in timed live-model sketch challenges on the lawn in front of the exhibition -- just inside the 12th Street entrance to the festival.

World Crafts Council wccna.orgFounded in 1964, the World Crafts Council (WCC) is an international organization affiliated with UNESCO whose mission is to strengthen the field of crafts as a vital part of worldwide cultural and economic life. On April 11, 2014, the WCC Board will hold a meeting in Atlanta at the Dogwood Festival and award a prize to a festival crafter who practices sustainable or recyclable craft.
