FRIDAY 18 NOVEMBER 2016 JERSEY EVENING POST 62 n Royals’ front-row forward Nathan Rault powers his way to a try against Weighbridge Vandals at Grainville last Saturday Pictures: TONY PIKE (16645813) n Royals’ Nick Hudson, on knees, gets the ball away to his onrushing forwards ROYALS RFC continued their Challenge Series by hosting a powerful Weighbridge Vandals side last Saturday, putting on an- other encouraging display in a 34-10 loss. Played at their home ground of Grain- ville, ‘The Blues’ again displayed the character that is helping them develop in their debut season. The first quarter’s action was tight, fol- lowing on from a silent remembrance of those who fell in conflict. The Royals defended excellently and a couple of times made tremendous breaks, particularly through their forwards, Nathan Rault, Daniel Britton and Guy Holvey-Clark, and were unfortunate that the wet and slippery conditions conspired against them crossing the visitors’ line. Vandals, however, made the most of their breaks and crossed the home white- wash three times before the half-time whistle went. The second half started as tightly as the first, with even more breaks from the Royals being rewarded with a try, from a great offload from Nick Hudson to Rault who finished down the left. Vandals responded strongly and made the most of the wet conditions and capi- talised on the Royals being a split second too slow at the breakdown to register two more tries. Vandals’ scrum-half had a good day with the boot, converting three of their five tries, but Royals again finished strongly, with John James Le Feuvre crossing over for their second try. Royals’ Justin Hewgill and Frankie Wood helped fill-in for the Vandals who lost two players two injury. Royals’ club captain Edgar Dingle said: ‘We expected the Vandals to be strong and we weren’t disappointed. It was a fierce and tight battle in which Vandals punished our small mistakes in a fantastic game. ‘Once again Royals played with all the heart that we would expect although we have a few things to work on – which we will do on Wednesday training sessions.’ Nathan Rault and Warwick Palmer were the Royals’ ‘men of the match.’ The Royals are sponsored by Dominion and Baker & Partners, and still have an additional advertising space on their shorts to fill. Anyone interest in backing the Royals can contact Steve Kearns on 07797757107. The Royals will be back in action tomor- row, away to a Jersey Reds Athletic Select at St Peter. Kick-off 12.30, followed by in- ternational rugby on the Reds’ big-screen televisions. Royals give Vandals real test SPORT Sports Diary Wednesday (cont) RACKETBALL Regent Racquets Club: Team League. too slow at the breakdown to register two more tries. Vandals’ scrum-half had a good day with the boot, converting three of their five tries, but Royals again finished strongly, with John James Le Feuvre crossing over for their second try.
