� Il comparativo serve per confrontare due elementi (persone,
cose o concetti):

� Il comparativo di maggioranza si forma in due modi:
Regole ortografiche
1) Si aggiunge -er
� agli aggettivi monosillabi:old older tall taller
� agli aggettivi che terminano in -e si aggiunge solo -r:nice nicer safe safer
� gli aggettivi che terminano in -y perdono la -y e si aggiunge -ier:

� gli aggettivi che terminano in vocale + consonante

2) Si mette more prima dell’aggettivo

Le forme del comparativo dell’aggettivo
Si usa more (= più) anche per fare un confronto sulla quantità (di
persone, cose, etc.).
There are more girls than boys in our class.Il contrario di more per i sostantivi singolari è less, per i sostantivi
plurali fewer. Sia less sia fewer si traducono in italiano con ”meno”.
There is less traffic at 6:00 am than at 6:00 p.m.
There are fewer boys than girls in our class.
� Il comparativo di uguaglianza si forma:
as + aggettivo + assecondo termine

� Per negare un’uguaglianza:

Generalmente, anziché usare il comparativo di minoranza, in inglese
si preferisce usare la forma negativa del comparativo di uguaglianza
oppure il comparativo di maggioranza dell’aggettivo di significato
opposto.
