Create a New Product A Knowledge Center

Introduction Products in Microsoft Dynamics AX are used by organizations in their business processes as Items or services. Items are tangible items that have on-hand inventory and inventory transactions; while services are intangible items which do not have on-hand inventory. Any item or service that the organization deals with must be first created as a product.

When a product is created, it must be released to individual companies to create Items/Services as Released Products. However, we can also directly create Products as Released Products.

There are two types of Products:

1. Product

• Those products that do not have variations are defined as products.

2. Product Master

• Those products that have variations. • The variants of the product master can be distinguished on the basis of dimensions like size, color, etc.

Prerequisites/Setup data:

1. Product dimension group• The product dimension group can be setup from Product information management Setup > Dimension groups > Product

Following are the entities that need to be setup before creating Products:

2. Storage dimension group• The storage dimension group can be setup from Product information management > Setup > Dimension groups >

3. Tracking dimension group• The tracking dimension group can be setup from Product information management > Setup > Dimension groups >

4. Item model group• The item model group can be maintained from Inventory and warehouse management > Setup > Inventory > Item

5. Item group• The item group can be setup from Inventory and warehouse management > Setup > Inventory > Item groups

Steps

1. Go to Product information management > Common > Products > All products and product masters

2. Click on the Product button in the New group in the action pane.

3. This will open a New product dialog box.

4. Select Service in the Product type field, Product in the Product subtype field, and type Delivery in the

Product name and Search name fields.

5. Press Ok

6. A new product is created.

7. It can be viewed from the Products list page (below).

8. Now select the newly created product and click on the Release products button in the Product authorization

group within the action pane.

9. The Release products dialog opens. Navigate to the Select companies tab on the left hand side.

10. Select the companies you want to release in the products and press OK.

11. A new dialog opens. Check the Show Infolog upon failure checkbox and press OK.

12. To verify if the product is successfully released, go to Product information management > Common > Released

products

13. The newly released product appears in the grid.

Create a Released Product

Steps

1. Go to Product information management > Common > Released products

2. Click on the Product button in the New group within the action pane. The New Release product dialog box opens.

3. Select the Item in the Product type field.

4. Select Product master in the Product subtype field.

5. Type Bag in the Product name and Search name fields.

6. Select Con-Dim in the Product dimension group field.

7. Select Predefined variant in the Configuration technology field.

8. Select FIFO in the Item model group field.

9. Select Packaging in the Item group field.

10. Select Con-Dim in the Storage dimension group field.

11. Select Con-Dim in the Tracking dimension group field.

12. Press OK.
