EK maak eers die studenteprotes oor klasgelde af as net nog militante optrede van die massas. Die ANC reageer net op militante optrede maar doen gewoonlik niks. Die myne steur hulle ook deesdae weinig daaraan en lê eerder werkers af. Ek sou ook. Ek stel nie in betogers belang nie. Ek laat my nie intimideer nie. Hierdie is dalk net nog ’n manier om die eksamens te omseil en swak prestasie aan massa optrede toe te skryf. Al hierdie stellings is waar, maar in dié geval moet ons bietjie dieper kyk. Hoeveel van ons lesers kry finansieel swaar met kinders op varsity? Ek kon 40 jaar gelede as sogenaamde

“bevoorregte” wit kind nie bekostig om op universiteit te studeer nie. My pa was dood en my ma arm. My studies het buitemuurs oor baie jare plaasgevind deur harde werk en elke sent wat ek kon verdien. Ek was dus nie bevoorreg nie. Daar is min ouers wat hulle kinders varsity toe kan stuur sonder skuld. Party gaan bos met motors vir die kinders en elke ding. Ek gun hulle dit. Hulle is bevoorreg.Maar is die belegging geregverdig? Ek sien ook baie bedorwe skepsels wat in later jare hulle ouers by die ouetehuis kom aflaai en weggooi. Moenie dink jy het nie ’n keuse nie, dis jou kinders en jy wil net die beste vir hulle hê. Twak. Watter verantwoordelikhede en deursettingsvermoë leer hulle as hulle niks insit nie?Universiteite en skole is plekke van

uitnemendheid, waar jy net die beste opleiding, hulpmiddels en lektore kan kry wat baie duur is. Geen uitkomkans. Hierdie lamlendige staat kan dit nie finansier nie, hy kan nie eers slaggate regmaak nie. As hy vir jou kind se opleiding betaal het hy ook die reg om van hulle rewolusionêre betogers en sosialiste te maak. Jy neem op eie risiko ’n betoger in diens.Daar is nie ’n kits oplossing nie. As studiegelde verlaag word en die staat help nie, loop soek die goeie professors ander weivelde. As dit verhoog, het minder jong mense toegang tot universiteite. Dit is wêreldwyd die geval. Myns insiens lê die oplossing by inisiatiewe soos die van Afriforum, privaat (bekostigbare) instansies en by studente wat hulleself deur opleiding werk, deur saans bv. as kelners vir pa en ma help met die studieskuld. Indiensopleiding is die antwoord. Neem ’n matrikulant in diens en laat hy homself bewys. Oorweeg dan om hom met buitemuurse studie te help.

Maar antieke ware kom met ’n prys. Mens koop nie net antieke-ware om te koop nie. Dit praat met jou siel. En jy sal sonder kos bly daarvoor. Dis hoe dit werk! Koop se gat is groot. Mens kan nie ’n sleepwa saam met jou vat oppad Boontoe nie nie. Daarom koop mens selektief. Party van ons is bevoorreg gewees om erfstukke in die familie te besit. En dis waar my liefde vir antieke-ware begin het. Parys en ander kosbare dorpies het in die deursnee ’n groter hoeveelheid antieke-winkels. Clarens (my ander gunsteling plek) is ek op versot en Dullstroom is te kommersieël. Die Kaap, Franschoek, Stellenbosch ens. val nou weer in ’n ander klas.

Benoem my nou maar in ’n boedel of twee vir ’n ou antieke-dingetjie. Ek sal dit mooi oppas.

Die droom het hier 'n daad geword tot voordeel van die hele gemeenskap. Vir twaalf jaar lank het die koerant sy lesers se lief en leed gedeel. Daar is berig oor geboortes, die klink van huweliksklokkies tot by die gelag, trane en pyne. Die Outoppie se weeklikse rubriek gee 'n indringende en soms ook 'n satiriese beeld van ons samelewing. Die brutale, kragte en kontraste in ons samelewing word in die rubriek manifesteer van die komiese tot die heilige en tot die banale. Michelle Boshoff is 'n direkte afstammeling van die Coetsers, die sitgters van die dorp Lydenburg. Die tak het spesiaal van Nelspruit gekom om watermonsters te meet. Op ’n vorige keer het T h a b a C h w e u gevind dat goed in die gat ingedruk word wat dit verstop. Hoe dit ook al sy - om ’n begraafplaas in so ’n toestand te sien, waar ander se geliefdes begrawe is, gee ’n baie slegte klankie af.

The first health care service was held earlier this month and was launched at the Mbombela taxi rank. The purpose of the establishment of the Taxi Rank health care services is to ensure that the taxi rank communities are afforded ACCESS to PHC services at least once a month.One of the Departmental strategic goals is to improve access to health care services. The Department has identified taxi rank communities as one of the communities with limited access to health care services. In these areas there are taxi drivers and hawkers who are providing services on continuous basis and commuters who are always commuting from one point to the other without or with limited access to health care services, hence the need of taxi rank healthcare services. The establishment of the taxi rank healthcare services will be done on a phase in approach, Mbombela taxi rank was the first to benefit from this initiative. FORD Performance rally driver Mark Cronje claimed his third South African National Rally Championship recently, after a dominant performance on the Polokwane Motor Rally.Cronje went into the rally as the firm favourite, holding a 7.5-point advantage over 2014 title-holder and championship rival Leeroy Poulter and co-driver Elvéne Coetzee (Toyota). The Ford ace, partnered with co-driver Gerhard Snyman in their Class S2000 Ford Fiesta, simply had to finish third to secure the title, even if Poulter won the rally.The crews faced three action-packed special stages on Friday, skipping the first stage which was cancelled due to muddy conditions resulting from the rains experienced in the area. Cronje and Snyman set off on SS2 with a cautious approach, ending fifth fastest just 11,8 sec behind stage winners Henk Lategan and Barry White (VW).They romped to the fastest time on SS3 and ended fourth on the next stage, rounding off day one in third place, 8,8 sec behind overnight leaders Giniel de Villiers/Carolyn Swan (Toyota) and Lategan/White.Aiming to find the perfect balance between speed and consistency, Cronje and Snyman claimed the first stage on day two, settled for third on SS6, and followed this up with second on SS7.With the end in sight, they snatched the final two stages of the Polokwane Motor Rally in emphatic style, crossing the line with 22,8 sec in hand over Lategan/White and 30,4 sec over De Villiers/Swan. VOLKSWAGEN’s second generation of their compact SUV, the Tiguan, has been based on the brand’s MQB platform (Modular Transversal Toolkit). As compact SUVs go, the Tiguan aims to be a general all-rounder that can be used in most environments.As far as looks are concerned the Tiguan falls right into the traditional Volkswagen design but with a bit of a robust element attached. Much like the VW Alltrack Caddy that was revealed previously the Tiguan has been given black plastic trimmings across the bumper and around the wheel arches. Chrome trimmings can also be seen along the grille, sideskirts and rear bumper. The new Tiguan is lower, wider and longer than the previous model and thanks to a drag coefficient improvement by almost 40% it’s more aerodynamic as well.The Tiguan will feature a selection of four TDI and four TSI engines, all of which are Euro-6 compliant. Petrol engine power outputs range from 92 kW to 162 kW while the diesel options will produce 85 kW to 176 kW. Base models will be equipped with front-wheel drive but more powerful variants will have VW’s 4MOTION drivetrain as an option. The most powerful engines will have this as standard.With the help of the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system and an increased ground clearance of 11 mm with a trailer load of a claimed 2 500 kg, the Tiguan should be more capable as an adventuring vehicle. For those who wish for an extra aid the compact SUV will have the off-road front end as an option. This will provide the Tiguan with a 25,6-degree approach angle as opposed to the standard 18,3-degree. A departure angle of 24,7-degree will be standard across the line.Volkswagen will be offering an R-Line package, providing the Tiguan with a sporty set of 19-inch ‘Sebring’ alloy wheels (Optional 20-inch ‘Suzuka’ wheels will be made available as well) and fewer plastic trimmings making for a more flushed appearance. A two-tone roof spoiler and a rear diffuser will also be added in order to create more of a sporting design. Stretches of lawn or paving are used in the same way. If you are revamping an old established garden, work with the existing plants in the garden, adding plants that will enhance the design, or removing those that really clash. Plant some more summer flowering bulbs and especially dahlias as staggered planting ensures months and months of blooms. Also, if dahlia tubers are planted this month they will bloom in February when the weather begins to cool down and the blooms will last longer. Bedding dahlias are grown from seed and are available in seed packets as well as in seedling trays. Plant dahlias in good, well-drained soil and remember to plant a stake with the tuber for tall growing varieties. If powdery mildew is spotted, spray immediately with an organic fungicide. OSTEOPOROSIS is a serious condition and a systemic disease, which is caused by the thinning of bones. It can lead to bones becoming even more susceptible to fractures – especially those of the spine, hip and wrists, which can result in extreme pain, and in some cases even death.In South Africa, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men will develop this disease within their lifetime – potentially between 4 and 6 million South Africans.Also known as the “silent epidemic” because there

are usually no visible symptoms until a bone fractures. Osteoporosis – once considered a normal part of ageing, can affect anyone – even young individuals. Several risk factors increase the likelihood of osteoporosis: Aging, a family history of the condition, women past menopause (who have a lowered amount of estrogen, a hormone important in building bones), inadequate intake of calcium and Vitamin D, an inactive lifestyle, small-boned and/or underweight body type, excess abdominal fat, use of certain medications, medical conditions such as liver or kidney disease, diabetes, or thyroid problems, smoking, or alcohol abuse. Can osteoporosis be prevented? For the most part, once bone has been lost, it cannot be replaced. So the goal in treating osteoporosis is to maintain existing bone and to stop further loss. Here are some things you can do: Get enough calcium. Some good sources of calcium are dairy products, dark leafy green vegetables, dried beans, canned sardines and salmon, sesame seeds, tofu, tortillas and soy flour. Some foods that are not rich in calcium may be fortified with calcium and vitamin D. Check the label on breakfast cereals, breads and orange juice. Your health care provider may also recommend calcium and Vitamin D supplements. Make fall prevention a priority. Reduce the risk by having regular eye examinations, keeping the house free of clutter and other hazardous conditions, and talking to your healthcare provider about a balanced training program. If you use a cane, walker or other assistive device, be sure it is properly fitted and you have been trained in its use. People who follow the above suggestions lessen the likelihood of developing osteoporosis. POTLOODSPRUIT se gemeenskapspolisieringsforum het op Saterdag ’n uiters suksesvolle opleidingsdag en skietdag aangebied by mnr. Paul Zorn (Lydenburg Pistol & Gun Club) se geakkrediteerde skietbaan. Dit is bygewoon deur die grondeienaars van Potloodspruit en ’n klompie ander belangstellendes. Paul Zorn, Johan Barnard, James Hart en Riaan Louw het as baanoffisiere opgetree en mense het hulle eie wapens gebring, of is voorsien van wapens en ammunisie. Die dag het begin met ’n kort lesing oor mediese noodgevalle en noodsaaklike eerstehulp, aangebied deur Dr Leon Van Heerden. Daarna is daar gepraat oor wapenveiligheid en die wetgewing deur mnre Zorn en Barnard. Johan Barnard van Hunters Boma op Lydenburg, het ’n uitstalling gehou en mense kon kyk na verskillende wapenkeuses en hulle aanwending. Hy kan ook die nodige kursusse aanbied, bevoedheidseksamens doen en help met lisensieaansoeke, wapens, ammunisie, herlaaitoerusting en bybehore. Drie dissiplines, nl. lang wapens (jaggeweer, taktiese semi outo geweer), haelgeweer en handwapens is geskiet op drie bane en die manne (en dames) het met hulle mooi wapens en vernuf gespog. Veiligheid was uitstekend. Die uiters aangename dag is afgesluit met ’n heerlike bring en braai.Die Potloodspruit GPF bedank graag vir mnr. Paul Zorn vir sy fasiliteite en insiggewende lesings, Dr. Leon Van Heerden vir sy advies, Mnr. Johan Barnard vir sy advies en beskikbaarstel van produkte, die baanoffisiere, dames wat papierwerk en registers behartig het en al die deelnemers.
