VOCATIONS CORNER Today we hear that Jesus’ coming into our world and all of the love he poured out for us, through much sacrifice, was done in obedience to the Father’s will. Remember that it may be God’s will that you be a priest, or a religious sister or brother. If so, will you follow Jesus’ example of faithfulness? If God is calling you to a church vocation, call our pastor, Fr. Steve, or Fr. Andrew Lauricella at (716) 847-5535.

As we celebrate this Holy Season and look forward to a New Year, we wish blessings of family, health, and increased faith for our fellow parishioners. The St. Christopher’s

Seniors have enjoyed friendship and several fun adventures this past year. If you are older that 55, join us at our next meeting, January 23 at 2 PM at St. Edmund’s campus, Smiroldo Parish Center. We have two ways of keeping in touch with our members. There is a phone “hot line” at (716) 833-8383 with a recorded message about our upcoming events, and the ability to leave a message. Also, our website www.saintchrisseniors.com has the latest information.

THANKS FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!

As 2019 comes to a close, we want to thank all of our parishioners for their continued support in the Upon This Rock campaign. With your donations, we have been able to replace the Parish office roof, repave the

school parking lot, resurface and repair the parking lot at St. Edmund campus and replace the heating control system at St. Edmund. After our capital projects are completed, we will create a deferred maintenance fund that will aid us in preserving our parish for years to come.

Dear Family,

AWE: “An emotion variously combining dread,

veneration, and wonder that is inspired by authority or by

the sacred” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition)

I am sure that Mary was in AWE of the presence of

Gabriel and the message he brought to her and the God

Who sent the message.

I am sure that Joseph was in AWE of the angel who came

to him in a dream, as related to us in the Gospel for the

Fourth Sunday of Advent, telling him that Mary would be

bearing the Messiah and he, Joseph, was to protect them

both.

I am sure that the shepherds were in AWE of the host of

angels who appeared to them in the fields announcing the

birth of the Messiah and directing them to go see for

themselves. I am sure they were in AWE as they looked

upon the poor little baby, the infinite God, who laid before

them in a simple manger.

Do we share that same AWE when we contemplate what

we are celebrating this week? When we look upon our

nativity scenes do we really reflect and see past the statues

to the actual event? When we hear with AWE the Gospel

readings of Jesus’ birth, do we pray over them and really

take in what happened two thousand years ago? Do we

really stand in AWE of our God Who so loved us that He

came among us as a little helpless baby to bring us

salvation and eternal life?

Let us BE in AWE this Christmas season of the immense

love of God in our lives! Let us hear the Gospel as if it was

the first time we have ever heard the story and BE in

AWE! Let us look upon the manger scenes in AWE!

Praying that you have an AWEsome Christmas!

A Blessed Christmas to you!!

Praised Be Jesus Christ…Now and Forever!!!

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Dear Parish Family,

As we approach the final week of the Advent season,

the children, teachers, and staff are busy preparing for

the reason we celebrate this season of pure love.

We’ve been busy baking, filling our friends’ stockings,

making cards, and hiding our Secret Santa gifts for

each other. We send off our School Resource Officer,

Captain Daniel Murphy, from the Tonawanda Police

Department, with prayers and warm wishes for his

retirement and a career of service. “Well done, my

good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23). One of our

primary grade children wrote in his card, “Now that you

are retiring, you will have plenty of time to have a baby

and go to North Dakota!”

On Monday, the kindergarten children performed the

Nativity led by Mrs. Provino, Mrs. Collins, Mrs. Couch,

and Mrs. McCuen in the Parish Center. Parents,

grandparents, and loved ones came to see their

performance and shared the joy of the Christ Child

coming to Earth with our families. Mrs. Siekierski led

our school in song and instrumental music celebrating

Our Lady of Guadalupe and more Thursday night.

Resounding laughter filled the Parish Center as the

children sang Dominic the Italian Christmas Donkey!

Advent means something new is coming. The dawn of

a new and better era. This is really what the Christmas

season is all about, isn’t it? God broke into time and

space and entered our world. Through prayer, we can

enter into God’s world and ask Him to prepare our

hearts the way He prepared all of history to receive the

gift of His Son. We can ask Our Heavenly Father to

use this time to cut away all the distractions and make

our lives a place of warmth and openness. Wishing all

our parish and school families a blessed Christmas.

In Mary’s Mantle,

Dr. Camille Pontrello

We have ended classes for this semester, and will be taking nearly two weeks off for our Christmas celebration. The office will be staffed but only during the day from 9 AM

until 4 PM. Classes begin again on January 6 and 7. Just a reminder that we are asking all those who plan on making their Confirmation in fall of 2020 to attend the Mass of Commitment and meeting on Sunday, January 5. The commitment Mass will be at 11 AM, and the meeting will immediately follow in the cafeteria. Thank you to all who contributed items to the STAR collection during Advent. The collection continues through January 10, our next Friday night session. Merry Christmas and may this season of peace, joy, hope and love fill your hearts, families and homes.

Blessings,

Marie Sajsa, PCL

Jesus is born on December 25! Well world, here I Am!!! It is so great to see mom and dad! Such a precious gift the Father has given them! I have a great destiny to fulfill! But in reality, all individual human beings have their own great destiny to fulfill that the Father has given them. It is theirs alone to do, but they depend on us to protect them.

WALKING WITH GRIEF

Walking with Grief is a monthly lecture series and support group provided to assist people 18 years of age or older in their journey of grief. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 8 at 6:30 PM at St. Edmund campus. Jacci Smith Reed will be our guest speaker, and the topic of discussion will be “Embrace the Uniqueness of Your Grief.” You will come to an understanding that each person’s grief is unique and that your grief and mourning can never be compared. We will explore all the many reasons that your grief is your grief. All parishioners, friends and neighbors are welcome.

Sister Johnice and the entire Response to Love Center family would like to thank the parishioners of St. Christopher for the contribution to the 2019 cleaning supply Christmas

drive. Through all the years you have supported Response To Love, and we are extremely grateful for that. May the good Lord watch over all of you in 2020. Any questions or to learn more about Response To Love Center, please contact Richard Gurbacki at (716) 361-1145 or email [email protected].
