Parish Bulletin

Onwards!

It is a joy that I report to you today. The task that began in Fiesta is almost done. We have completed the scanning of our church and now have the architectural plans of our church building. Currently, we have finalized the upgrading of our church’s sound system allowing our liturgy, homilies and music to be clearer and more audible even if it is not always perfect. We have also begun to address the cracks that beset our parish centre. A structural engineer will be assigned in the next few months.

With these ongoing projects, we in the execom team, along with our Francisfest chairperson Menchu Bautista, enthusiastically announces Francisfest 2016. Our theme this year “Make me a channel of your peace” resonates soundly with our year of Mercy. This year, we have invited the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth composed of brilliant youth musicians from deprived communities. We hope that this Francisfest 2016 not only uplifts you with great music but also highlights our sense of compassion in providing opportunities for these musicians to achieve their full musical potential.

We also wish to highlight that our Francisfest touches the lives of our community. We hope everyone supports the concert which benefits our parish outreach programs like JPIC Scholarship Ministy, our Prison Ministry that serves both Makati and Taguig City jails, the Friendship Home and OFS seminarians. Please continue to pray that we have a successful Francisfest 2016!

All of us are stewards in the upkeep of our church. We are also stewards in spreading HIS mercy. Thank you for the support you have shown during Fiesta and now in Francisfest. And I thank you for being a steward, for without Stewards like YOU, our Church will not be complete.....

A Eucharistic Community of Families as Good Stewards of Material Blessings by Clarisse G. Gomez

“Without God, we forget that all is gift and we

begin to think ourselves as owners, instead of stewards, masters of

the universe instead of servants of the one Lord

who has called us to nurture and develop His gifts wisely and well for

the good of all.”

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI

As Catholics, we are called to be stewards of all that we have been given: our time, talents, bodies, material blessings, and creation as a whole. It is convenient to think of stewardship as a time-bound program or an initiative with an end in mind, but our faith teaches us that stewardship demands more. It is a way of life and a constant response to God’s love for us.

Stewardship comes with the understanding that we are merely administrators, and not owners of our blessings, and that we are called to respect and share our blessings in gratitude for what God has given us. In modern society, this calling has become even more difficult because it runs counter to the culture of consumerism and materialism that is prevalent today. Our culture dictates that we need to accumulate more wealth and more material goods for ourselves, expecting that these will bring status, comfort,

or even happiness. Our Catholic faith teaches otherwise. Though we need not reject money or material things, our faith calls for us to develop these blessings and to share them for the good of others.

This is seems like a difficult calling, and we may feel that we are being asked to radically change our lifestyles. But we can start by reflecting on the small choices we make daily, and ask ourselves: What do I do with what I am given? Am I using these blessings in a way that gives life and enriches the well-being of my neighbors? Or am I using them in a way that is wasteful, or that brings death to others, and deprives them of their needs? Do I have genuine attitude of gratitude for these blessings, that I feel the need to share them? Do I let my relationship with material things get in the way of my relationship with God and with His people?

In the heart of Rome, at the beautiful Church of St. Ambrose in Via del Corso, the 12:15 noon-day Mass was almost empty. It was a Wednesday and a sprinkling of Filipinos and old people were in attendance.

At the Vatican, there were hundreds in line to view the magnificent works of art rather than to worship in the amazing Church of St. Peter.

At the famous Duomo Cathedral in Milan, the line was long and tedious for tourists to enter its hallowed halls. The daily Mass was celebrated behind its main altar by a very old priest and with just a few old people hearing Mass.

It is inspiring to see old priests who have devoted a lifetime to God, who have given up family, comfort, ambition, perhaps personal love and material wants. They are living testaments of a life offered unselfishly to God and for others. Equally it is uplifting to see young priests in their prime working with dedication and passion for our faith. Sadly, today we have a much lower rate of vocations for priesthood.

In good stead, our parish not only prays for vocations but has established the Pastoral Care for Franciscan Vocation Ministry. Started three years ago, it supports seminarians who are in their final two years prior

to ordination. Chosen are 3rd and 4th year Theology students who are already solemnly professed friars. It was deemed wise to support seminarians nearing ordination to ensure judicious use of funds. They are selected by our Franciscan priests at San Pedro Bautista. For the year 2014-2015, there were 4 scholars; and another 4 for the year 2015-2016. A portion of funds raised from FrancisFest is allocated to this worthy ministry.

It is with pride that 3 scholars were recently ordained priests. Two of them – Rev. Fr. Jose Romero Fabahair, OFM, and Rev. Fr. Jumil Jomoc Alcasoda,

OFM – celebrated their first Mass at Santuario de San Antonio on August 23 this year.

Our Santuario de San Antonio Parish is well and alive with active parishioners and priests who celebrate our daily Masses and attend to our spiritual needs. It is important that we support vocations for the future of our church and our faith; for the priests are the keepers of our faith, with a deep sense of God, who inspire and link us to God through the Sacraments.

Giving to FrancisFest is supporting this meaningful ministry. So please help.

Prayer to St. Joseph of Cupertino for Success in Examinations

O Great St. Joseph of Cupertino who while on earth did obtain from God the grace to be asked at your examination only the questions you knew, obtain for me a like favour in the examinations for which I am now preparing. In return I promise to make you known and cause you to be invoked.

Through Christ our Lord.

St. Joseph of Cupertino, Pray for us.

Amen.
