Dojo Meeting (RES School Library) Sunday December 10th 1:00 – 2:30
The dojo meeting is for club instructors and is a great opportunity for us to share thoughts and ideas as well as to ensure that we are all well informed with events that affect us. Receive updates from the National Chito-Ryu Association AGM, KNB and our provincial executive and Technical Committee. It is important that we come together at least once per year and “get on the same page” so to speak. If you would like to have a specific topic placed on the meeting agenda, please send your request to Neil Pond @ [email protected] Because of the timing of this meeting, formal dress will not be required.

Canadian Chito-Ryu AGM:
The annual general meeting of Chito-Ryu Karate Canada, our
national association, was held at the Don Valley Hotel &
Suites in Toronto, Ontario on Saturday, November 4th. At the
meeting, ongoing succession and strategic plans were
discussed and progress is steadily being made in this regard. More details of this meeting will be
presented at the upcoming NBCRKA dojo meeting so please stay tuned. In addition to the
meetings, Sensei Higashi hosted several clinics that were well attended. There was also a
delegation of World Chito–Ryu members from Japan and Norway in attendance.
Congratulations!
Sensei Higashi recently promoted to 10th Dan as Saikoshihan of the World Chito-Ryu Karate do
Federation. A red & gold belt was presented to him at the AGM after which he proudly wore it at
the Sunday Clinic. In addition to a belt and certificate, Sensei Higashi was also presented with a
hand painted portrait of himself painted by Sensei George Heroutian of Ontario.
Sensei Mazerolle successfully challenged the 7th Dan test!
Sensei Rix successfully challenged the 5th Dan test!
Congratulations Senseis Mazerolle and Rix for moving forward and moving N.B. Chito-Ryu
ahead as well!
Tournament News:
A very successful Chito-Ryu provincial tournament was held it Rothesay High School on October
28th with over 50 athletes in attendance! There was also a participation from our neighbouring
Nova Scotia Chito-Ryu Karate Association members from Halifax. Looking forward to seeing
them again at our next tournament!
A noticeable difference at this recent
tournament was the inclusion of
some of our junior athletes
performing officiating duties!
“Congratulations” and “Thank You”
goes out to Alexander Cumming,
Alec Hocquard, Brooke Daigle and
Hope Clare for participating as both
officials and athletes at our recent
tournament. You did very well and I
am sure that we will see even more
junior officials at the next tournament
scheduled for the New Year!
A new system of belt kumite was
introduced at the Chito-Ryu
tournament involving pull over vests
with Velcro belts attached to both the
front and the back. This new system
fosters better karate form and
techniques for introduction to kumite competition. It was a great success and the kids had lots of
fun with the new system.

Go Kate!
Our very own Kate Campbell will be leaving for
Okinawa on November 21 for a WKF Level “A”
tournament as a contender to qualify for the Olym-
pics!
She is only one of two athletes from Canada that
is competing at this tournament representing Can-
ada! Wow! What a feat! Please wish her good
fortune and success as she competes against the
best in the world in Okinawa! Go Kate go!
KNB Team Training
KNB Team Training has begun again under the guidance and leadership of the KNB Head
Coach and Karate Canada Atlantic Regional Coach – Sensei Randy Rix. There were 28 ath-
letes in attendance which may very well be the largest team training event ever held in New
Brunswick!
Assistant coaches were present to help with the training including our very own Sensei Glen
Savoie (kumite) as well as 2 Tsuroka Karate coaches: Sensei Roman Losier (kata) and Sensei
Serge Kerry (Kumite). As usual, team manager Scott Dixon (Fredericton Chito-Ryu) had every-
thing well in control as he works behind the scene to make sure NB is a well oiled machine!
Thanks to coaches, volunteers, dojo instructors, officials and parents for supporting our ath-
letes! It is truly a team effort!
Fall Dues...The Good, The Bad and the Ugly!
Please don`t shoot the messenger but it is that time of year again where we must pay the
piper for keeping the system going. Chito-Ryu Fall dues are now needing to be remitted in
order for us to maintain our programs as a provincial association. These dues are used to
operate the association as a not for profit provincial organization much like a nfp sport organi-
zation with all of the related costs and expenses involved. Please remember that our National
dues are included in these fees to better streamline the remittance process. The fee is $34.00
per member plus a dojo fee of $250.00 per dojo. You can remit payment to Neil Pond
(Southern Region) or Linda Corbett (Central Region). Please include a membership list with
member details along with your remittance. If you need a membership form you can contact
Neil or Linda for an electronic copy. Please make cheques payable to N.B. Chito-Ryu Karate
Association.

Kobujutsu AGM
The Canadian Rukyu
Kobujutsu Association

meeting on Nov. 10-12 in
Montreal. The meeting

Blais (Chito-Ryu Quebec)
and many Chito-Ryu

participate in clinics led by
Sensei Higashi, Chief

jutsu in Canada. Atlantic
