Adhesive in water
dispersion with strong
initial bond, long open time
and extremely low emission
level of volatile organic
compounds (VOC), especially
developed for textile floors
WHERE TO USE
Ultrabond Eco 170 is used for bonding textile floorcoverings with all types of backing material on all kindsof internal, absorbent substrates normally used in thebuilding industry which are stable in the presence ofhumidity.
TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Ultrabond Eco 170 is a solvent-free, syntheticpolymer-based adhesive in water dispersion supplied ina beige-coloured paste form, which is easy to spread.
Ultrabond Eco 170 is not inflammable, does notcontain toxic substances and has an extremelylow emission level of volatile organic compounds
(EMICODE EC1), which makes it harmless for thosewho use the product and for those who use theenvironments in which it is applied. It may also bestored without taking any particular precautions.
Ultrabond Eco 170 is an adhesive with a very highinitial bond, in spite of its long open time, so thatmaterials may be laid up to 30-40 minutes afterapplication.
Ultrabond Eco 170 has been developed so that it isparticularly suitable for laying textile floor coverings inenvironments subject to intense traffic and the passageof wheelchairs.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Lay floors at the temperature recommended, normallybetween +15C and +35C.
Do not apply on damp substrates or on substratessubject to rising damp.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Preparation of the substrate
Substrates must be dry, absorbent, flat, mechanically
strong, free of cracks, dust, loose portions, paint, wax, oil, rust and traces of gypsum, and products which may
compromise the bond.
A British Standard approved test should give a reading
of 75% RH or less, if this has not been achieved the useof Mapei Surface Membrane will suppress residual /
static moisture in a power floated concrete slab or snd /
cement screed, provided that a base dpm has beenincorporated.
For gypsum and anhydrite substrates the maximumhumidity level should be 0.5% as measured with a
carbide hygrometer, and in all cases, no higher than
the level recommended by the manufacturer of the
floorcovering.
Floating screeds installed on lightened sub-layers orinsulating material and screeds laid directly on the
ground must be isolated by laying a vapour barrier.
To repair cracks in the substrate, consolidate screeds,
install quick-drying screeds and to level off the layingbed, please refer to the section of the MAPEI catalogue
regarding the preparation of substrates, or contact the
Mapei Technical Assistance Department.

Spreading the adhesiveUltrabond Eco 170 must be applied in aneven layer on the substrate with a suitablenotched trowel to guarantee that theadhesive completely covers the back of thematerial. Do not apply adhesive on an areaof substrate which will not be covered withthe flooring material within 30-40 minutes.
Laying the floorFollow the laying instructions supplied by themanufacturer of the floor covering, and makesure that the floor covering and the substrateare at the recommended temperature beforelaying.
The waiting time for Ultrabond Eco 170varies from 0 to 20 minutes, according tothe absorption of the substrate and thesurrounding conditions (temperature andhumidity).
In all cases, the floor must be laid withinthe open time of Ultrabond Eco 170(30-40 minutes), that is, when the adhesive
may still be transferred onto the backingmaterial.
The surface of the material must be rolledwith a 68 kg roller immediately after laying thefloor covering, starting from the centre andworking towards the edges, to make sure theadhesive is transferred to the back of thefloorcovering. If necessary, repeat the rollingoperation after a few minutes.
CleaningTraces of Ultrabond Eco 170 may beremoved while still fresh with water. Once dry,it must be removed with alcohol or Pulicol.
CONSUMPTIONConsumption varies according to the flatnessof the substrate, the type of backing materialon the flooring material and the type of trowelused. Approximately 55 m per 15 kg usingan A2 Trowel.
PACKAGINGUltrabond Eco 170 is available in 15 kg tubs.
STORAGEUltrabond Eco 170 remains stable for atleast 12 months under normal environmental
conditions in its original, sealed packaging.Ultrabond Eco 170 must be protected fromlong exposure to freezing weather.
