For the 34th year in a row, Alabama advanced to the NCAA Champion-ships after winning its NCAA-best 31st regional championship in Cole-man Coliseum with a score of 197.125 in front of a vocal crowd of 10,116 fans. In addition to being the Tide’s NCAA-record 31st regional title, it is also the Tide’s 12th in a row, the longest streak in program history. Alabama posted the highest team score on three of the four events, and was second on the fourth, balance beam, by .025. In her last competition in Coleman Coliseum, senior Lauren Beers won the floor exercise with a 9.950 and was second on the vault with a 9.875. Sophomore Mackenzie Brannan won the uneven bars with a 9.900. The Tide used a 49.225 on the vault to close out the meet behind 9.9875s from Beers and freshman Jenna Bresette. Alabama started the meet on the uneven bars, with ju-nior Keely McNeer posting a 9.875 in the leadoff spot. Sophomores Ki-ana Winston and Mackenzie Brannan closed out the rotation going 9.875 and 9.900, respectively, pushing Alabama to a 49.275 team score. On the balance beam, the Tide went five-for-five after its leadoff fell, scoring a 49.150. Junior Aja Sims led the Tide on the beam with a 9.875. Alabama went to its seniors for big scores on the floor exercise with Beers posting a 9.95 in the fifth spot and Carley Sims going 9.9 in the anchor position, pacing the Tide to the highest rotation score of the day, a 49.475. Ala-bama will compete in the evening session of the NCAA Championships Semifinals that will be held Friday, April 15 in the Fort Worth Convention Center Arena starting at 7 p.m. CT.

Arkansas finished third at the NCAA Iowa City Regional with a score of 195.500. Although the 2016 season came to a close for the team, Aman-da Wellick qualified for Nationals with an all-around score of 39.350. She was the second-highest all-arounder who was not on an advancing team, joining Mollie Drenth of Iowa, who posted a 39.450. Among all competi-tors, Wellick finished fifth. Starting out the night on floor exercise, Sydnie Dillard and Stephani Canizaro started out the rotation with back-to-back 9.800’s. Dillard made her 50th career start as a Razorback, having nev-er missed a floor and balance beam rotation. To cap the lineup, Sydney McGlone highlighted her 9.825 with a well-executed double layout, and then Wellick posted a team-high 9.850 to lead Arkansas to an opening 49.000. Wellick tied for third among all competitors in the event with her score. On vault, Wellick shined once again, clinching a tie for second on the day with a score of 9.875. She was leading the way until the Sooners came up in the sixth rotation and had scores of 9.900 from Chayse Capps and a tying 9.875 by Haley Scaman. Braie Speed added a vault of 9.800, her 10th of that or higher this season. After a bye, the uneven bars lineup posted a 49.100. Canizaro notched a career-high 9.875 for the seventh time in her career, and Erin Freier matched that same score. Speed put up her second 9.800 of the night at the No. 5 spot in the lineup. Moving on to beam, the Razorbacks’ last event of the evening, Dillard got things started with a 9.800 in her final performance. Paige Zaziski and Wellick followed with back-to-back 9.850’s; it was Wellick’s seventh score of that or better, with Zaziski reaching the mark for the fourth time this season. Arkansas rounded off the last event with a 49.025. Since beginning the season with a 48.225 in the Cancun Classic, the Razorbacks scored at least a 49.000 on beam in the final dozen meets. They became the eighth and ninth members of the program to compete in all-around at the na-tional championships. Dukes led Kentucky on 24 occasions this season with 10 career event titles, while Hyland led UK on 11 occasions with five career event titles. It also marks the fifth time in Kentucky’s history that the team has sent two all-around competitors to the national champion-ship in the same season. The 2016 season marked multiple broken re-cords for the Wildcats. UK earned its highest regional qualifying score of all-time (196.205) as well as a new record for balance beam RQS (49.13). Also, within a two-week span, Kentucky posted its second and third high-est scores ever, first earning a 196.7 at Arkansas before scoring a 196.65 while hosting Florida.

No. 9 Georgia scored a 196.850 to place second at the NCAA Athens Re-gional at Stegeman Coliseum, earning a spot in the 12-team NCAA Cham-pionships April 15-16 in Fort Worth, Texas. The Gymdogs had a total score of 147.6 going to the last rotation, the second best three-even score of any team. LSU held first place with a 147.9. After a bye in the fifth rotation bye, Georgia finished competition on bars, where it was led by Jay’s 9.95. Rachel Schick added a 9.85, as the Gymdogs used a 49.250 in to solidify their NCAA Championship bid. Georgia will compete in the first semifinal in the NCAA Championships along with No. 2 Florida, No. 3 LSU., No. 6 Auburn, No. 16 Minnesota and No. 18 Stanford.
