The High Court has dismissed an application by the Mau Mau Governing Council of Kenya to be enjoined in a suit challenging disbursement of the Sh2.4billion awarded by the UK government to

former freedom fighters. The freedom heroes won the award following a case filed by a British firm and Kenya Human Rights Commission in a London court. The council wanted to be included

in the disbursement list in a suit filed by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK). The society sought orders for a British firm to disclose names of the 5,228 beneficiaries. Justice David Onyancha, in his

ruling, said MMGCK has no legal capacity to sue or be sued. “The MMGCK is a mere society registered under the Societies Act and the court cannot help parties that heavily slept on their rights,”

Justice Onyancha said. The Society had said in its application that it represents the Mau Mau War Veterans whose interest should be compensated by the British government.

teacher chokes 17-foot serpent for swallowing neighbour’s dogA maths teacher captured a 17ft anaconda snake hours after it snatched his friend’s dog from the edge of the water and later swallowed it.Sebastien Bascoules, who lives in Matoury, French Guiana, waded into a shallow river and hauled the 79-kilogramme snake onto land in nearby Montsinery after a friend phoned him with news of his pet dog, Minus. An anaconda is a large, non-venomous snake found in tropical South America. It is one of the largest snakes in the world. Known to

crush the bones of their prey, anacondas can grow up to 22 feet or 6.7 metres.Recalling the incident, Mr Bascoules, 39, said: “At first I was not scared because I thought it was smaller. But I was very surprised by his strength and his length - more than five metres.”Bascoules asked his friend to help capture the anaconda by grabbing its tail to avoid getting strangled by the reptile.Since it was still digesting the dog, Bascoules said, it was “very calm before I touched it”.

After blindfolding the snake with a t-shirt, Mr Bascoules put it in his bathtub to store overnight, against the wishes of a deeply worried wife.Bascoules said by the time he captured the snake, it was too late to relocate it away from the residential area, so he decided it could spend the night at his family home. The next day Bascoules released the anaconda about 10 km away into a river close to some swamps where the creatures are often found.

The vote was preceded by an agreement between the Scottish and UK governments. The referendum question, as recommended by the Electoral Commission, was “Should Scotland be an independent country?” with voters only allowed to answer Yes or No. To pass, the independence proposal required a simple majority, which it did not.More than 4.2 million people registered to vote in the referendum, which represents almost 97 per cent of all eligible voters. Included in those eligible to vote were people as young as 16 years of age.Turnout was 66 per cent and the ‘No’ vote won with a 55

per cent majority. British Prime Minister David Cameron, speaking outside 10 Downing, expressed satisfaction with the result, saying it was time for United Kingdom to move on.“There can be no disputes, no re-runs. We have heard the settled will of the Scottish people,” Cameron said.“I also want to pay tribute to Yes Scotland for a well-fought campaign and to say to all those who did vote for independence — we hear you,” he said. Most observers believe there will be a change in the relationship in coming months. Cameron pledged to honour commitments made in final days of the campaign to Scotland, including high levels of state funding.

Uhuru launches graduate volunteer programme

Happy wives key to successful marriages

One year after the mysterious disappearance of journalist and blogger Bosire Bogonko, police have said that there is no sign of him. Bogonko, who owned the controversial blog Jackal News was the first to expose the names of a prosecution witness at the International Criminal Court who had given evidence in the ongoing cases against three Kenyans including President Uhuru Kenyatta. He disappeared on September 18, 2013 with his family saying that they have already given up on searching for him.“The police would often call me to go check in the morgues every time they had a corpse that they thought would be him, but it always turned out to be a mistaken identity,” Elkanah Bosire, Bogonko’s brother told AFP. He says that he no longer goes to the mortuaries to look for bodies recovered by police after giving up on the search. Police have, however, said the search for the blogger is still on though police spokeman Masoud Mwinyi has said that they have found no trace.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has launched a national volunteer initiative dubbed Future Leaders programme that is aimed at promoting national cohesion, improving primary school education and creating enriching opportunities for fresh university graduates.President Kenyatta said the programme will add a sense of

patriotism and unity among the youth. “It is through this kind of initiatives that we will be able to make people understand that at the end of the day, we are all one people with shared values, shared objectives and shared needs.” he said. The first group of 150 youth in the programme will be deployed to teach in primary schools in eight counties

during the first phase before the programme is rolled out in all the 47 counties. “I really hope that you will be the trailblazers, you will set the example and encourage others to see what beauty there is in calling yourselves Kenyans and at the same time recognize that our rich diversity is a thing that we should all cherish,” the

President said.Deputy President, William Ruto said by focusing on the youth, the programme will give them a chance to know their country better and promote national cohesion and unity. The first phase of the programme will be implemented in West Pokot, Kilifi, Machakos, Garrisa, Nyeri, Samburu, Kisumu and Busia counties.

The key to a blissful marriage is to keep the wife happy.Researchers from Rutgers Uni-versity in the US have found that the key to marital happiness is all about women’s feelings. The study revealed that the more content the wife is within the marriage, the happier the hus-band is with his life as a result. The lead researcher, Dr Deborah Carr said: “I think it comes down to the fact that when a wife is satisfied with the marriage, she tends to do a lot more for her husband, which has a positive effect on his life. “Men tend to be less vocal about their relationships and their level of marital unhappiness might

not be translated to their wives,” she added. Vicki Freedman, a research professor at the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research, co-authored the study, which appeared in the ‘Journal of Marriage and Family’. She found that wives take the role of the carer if their husband becomes unwell, which, in turn, lowers their mood. Men’s happiness levels, however, didn’t change if their wife fell sick.Researchers said the study is particularly important because health and wellbeing can be impacted by the quality of a marriage.

Internet access drives up media revenues to Sh144b

Increased internet access is driving the growth of expenditure on TV and radio in Kenya, a report released by PwC shows. Kenya recorded US$1.7billion (Sh144.5 billion) in entertainment and media revenues in 2013. This is projected to rise to Sh263b in 2018, as internet contributes more than Sh85billion in five years. The Outlook report by PwC analyses historical and forecast data of Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria across 12 sectors. The areas include internet, TV, filmed entertainment, radio, recorded music, publishing, out-of-home advertising, video games, and sports.South Africa’s entertainment and media revenues will hit Sh1.9 trillion in 2018 as Nigeria’s revenues for 2013 stood at $4b (Sh340b). The report singles out internet access as the key driver of

The Rift Valley Railways (RVR) has commissioned three trains, marking the first time Kenya has received new locomotives since 1987.The commissioning comes after RVR announced it had secured a Sh1.8 billion asset financing deal with Standard Bank, South Africa, and CfC Stanbic Bank for the

acquisition of 20 locomotives from US. Transport Cabinet Secretary Michael Kamau said the acquisition of the fleet is a sign of brighter days ahead in the sector which is expected to change other sectors of the economy. “We are encouraged to see noteworthy recent improvements in operational

performance, particularly in cargo transit time and the speed of evacuating cargo from the port,” Kamau said. The remaining trains to be purchased at a cost of Sh2.3 billion will be delivered in the next five months.

Sangary, could be suspended for six months from the California Bar after she was caught superimposing her face onto images with celebrities. State Bar Court Judge Donald Miles described the images as “false and deceptive” advertising. The photos show Sangary posing with George Clooney, Barrack Obama, Donald Trump, Bill Clinton Woody Allen and Alec Baldwin, among other superstars. The images show her wearing different outfits, smiles and poses that resemble the celebrity she appears to be with.Miles said in his ruling that Sangary

was not fully cooperative with the investigation. In addition to the six-month suspension, he recommended she serves three years of probation, reports the Recorder.“The court has grave concerns regarding (Sangary’s) demonstrated lack of insight and her contemptuous conduct during these proceedings,” Miles wrote. “Her failure to remove the deceptive images from her website, even after the State Bar brought this issue to her attention, and her demonstrated disregard for the disciplinary process give little reason to believe that her misconduct will not continue.”

Jack told the Perth Sunday Times: “I dropped it in a panic to get it open, luckily it’s covered in plastic, so it’s fine.”He said he was looking forward to sitting down and playing with the new phone. “I just can’t wait to open it again - and not drop it.”Perth was one of the first cities in the world to have the iPhone 6 on sale.

growth in the three markets.“Growth in South African entertainment and media industry is largely driven by the Internet. Another contributor is consumers’ love for new technology, and in particular mobile technology, such as

smartphones, tablets and applications powered by data analytics and cloud services. “Technology is increasingly being driven by consumer needs and expectations,” said Vicki Myburgh, Entertainment & Media Industries Leader at PwC South Africa.

The slowest growing segment in the Entertainment and Media (E&M) industry will be music industry, the survey shows. TV is the second-largest segment, with combined revenue from subscriptions and advertising. The

study shows adverts accounted for 38 per cent revenue in the E&M industry in 2013. The share is expected to fall to 33 per cent in 2018, largely due to internet access increasing its market share significantly over the same period.

US man commits suicide after killing 6 grandchildren

A US man has shot dead six grand-children, his daughter before commit-ting suicide, Florida police reported on Thursday.Gilchrist County Sheriff Robert Schultz said Don Charles Spirit, 51, shot and killed the seven, with the youngest being three months while the oldest was 10 years.Authorities said Spirit had repeatedly called for emergency help saying he wanted to harm himself. He shot dead the seven then turned the gun

on himself before the police arrived in his residence in Bella.Police said he killed himself in their presence. Schultz, a county official in Florida, told reporters he was shocked by the incident and asked for prayers for the community and the families hit by the tragedy. “I haven’t seen anything like this at all,” Schultz, who was visibly shaken, told reporters. “This county, this community is going to be devastated from this. It is a small county, we are all family here.

“We’re asking for prayers for this com-munity and the families involved,” he said. This father and grand-father is a seasoned law offender. In a 2001 hunting trip to Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area near Ke-nansville, Spirit turned his rifle on the head of his nine-year-old son, killing him while cleaning it.Tampa Bay Times, a newspaper, reported the case was counted as an accident after he pleaded guilty. He was put behind bars for three years

for illegal ownership of a firearm. In 1998, Spirit was convicted for being in possession of marijuana.Mass killings have dominated the media, sparking a debate between those advocating and opposing free gun ownership in the US.According to FBI, 11,000 people lost their lives in 2011 to guns.In December 2012, 20 children and six adults were killed in Newtown.President Obama attempted to ban weapon ownership but failed.

An average onion weighs about 100 grams. It was approximated that the onion can be used to prepare 250 bhages, a French onion soup, for about 36 people. The South Derbyshire nonprofessional farm-er beat former heaviest onion record holder Peter Glazebrook from Newark, Nottinghamshire, by 284 grams. NewsCorp Chief Executive Robert Thompson has written to the European Commission calling for a tougher approach to Google. In the letter which was addressed to Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia, Thompson calls Google a “platform for piracy”. He says the shining vision of Google’s founders has been replaced by a cynical management. He warns that a failure to challenge Google’s dom-inance will lead to a less informed, more worrying level of dialogue. The EC earlier this month reopened its four-year an-ti-trust probe into Google’s

search and advert business. Google is in a long-running row with EC over competi-tion issues. The letter suggests that NewsCorp’s newspapers such as The Times, Sun and Wall Street Journal Europe are unfairly disadvantaged by Google’s scale. Google has been accused of taking unfair advantage of its ability to sell adverts that target specific audiences at discounted rates. This undermines specialist pub-lishers’ ability to generate revenue. But Eric Schmidt, Google’s CEO said newspapers get most online traffic directly and Google is not the gate-way to the internet.

1,400 jobs risk as Ultrasonic chiefs vanish with firm cashThe Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer of Chinese footwear firm, Ultrasonic, have fled with a substantial amount of company cash.Ultrasonic specialises in the design, production and sale of sandals, slippers, urban footwear and high-end accessories. The products target a growing middle class.Officials announced the disappearance of CEO Qingyong Wu and COO Minghong Wu earlier this week. The firm, which is listed in Germany, said both men had “left their homes and are not traceable”.Spokespeople did not say how

much cash was missing but it still had a “relevant six-figure amount” under its control. The firm can still meet normal payment obligations. Ultrasonic’s Chief Financial Officer Chi Kwong Clifford Chan and the supervisory board were in talks with authorities and business partners “to clarify matters”, the firm said.Authorities hope to locate and have the two officials prosecuted.“As soon as reliable facts can be verified, they will be disclosed immediately,” Ultrasonic’s statement on its website said.Ultrasonic had been enjoying

steadily revenue and profit growth before the scandal.Revenues had grown nearly 10 per cent to 163.8m euros (Sh19 billion) in the last five years. But the company’s share prices have dipped by more than

70 per cent after the scandal broke out.If Ultrasonic follows in the footsteps of Youbisheng Green Paper, a Germany-listed Chinese manufacturer that also experienced a similar crisis earlier this year.

The households commit a fifth of food budgets to rice, one of the most popular foods in kenya after maize and wheat products, such as ugali and bread.

While maize products such as flour are part of nairobi residents’ staple food, they account for 44 per cent of total food spending among the poorest households. their wealthier counterparts spend only 22 per cent of their budgets on maize products.

the poorest homes spend an average of sh58.10 per adult each month on rice as the wealthiest use about sh100.30 per adult a month.“maize continues to be the primary staple food in nairobi in terms of kilo-grammes consumed per adult,” says muyanga.

along with wheat products, including bread and other foods like cooked bananas, muyanga found out that the households take foods rich in carbohy-drates.based on the research, the households require a variety of food groups on their plates, says ariga.

as nairobi consumers become more health-conscious, more households are adding fruits and vegetables to daily di-ets. but rice is still growing in popularity as it seeks to join the ranks of ugali.

Kenyatta University’s Chandaria Business Innovation and Incubation Centre has received Sh250,000 from ABC Bank. The Centre allows young entrepreneurs to develop business ideas.Speaking during a visit to Vice-Chancellor Prof Olive Mugenda on September 16, ABC pledged to nurture youth innovations at the Centre. The bank team comprised General Manager Peter Kinyanjui, Head of Corporate Banking, Mary Mulili, and

ABC Chief Martin Mutiga, among others. Kinyanjui pledged continued support to the centre in its goal of reaching more youth. The move is in line with the bank’s commitment to nurturing start-ups as part of its corporate social responsibility. The delegation hailed the university management for the opportunity to be part of the transformative initiative led by the Chandaria Centre.

Mugenda said in addition to supporting the Centre, further funding is required to meet the needs of Orphans and Vulnerable Students (OVS) through more scholarship programmes. The university’s OVS scholarship programme serves about 100 deserving cases every year. Prof Mugenda called for the expansion of the kitty by corporate groups for the institution to reach out to more needy cases.

Two farmers and a University Professor have found to use only bees to pollinate their crops in a greenhouse.By ‘employing’ stingless bees, the three - two farmers Ng’etich Taita, Bryan Bett, and Professor Maurice Vincent Omollo of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology - have increased the harvest of of tomatoes and green peppers.Ng’etich, who has been farming for the last 10 years, once faced huge challenges doing open field tomato farming in Oloitoktok. This exposed his crop to conditions that were beyond his control, such as flooding

and extreme drought among others. This drove him to try greenhouse farming which helped him grow his crops in a more controlled environment. However, after a year, he realised that there were no pollinating agents like wind, water, birds and insects in the structures, which resulted in poor quality fruits and low yields. Ng’etich and his colleagues decided to use insects dubbed ‘bio bees’ to do the pollination in the greenhouse. The stingless worker bees are currently being nurtured and raised by Professor Omollo, the projects lead scientist.

“The first colonies were captured from Kakamega forest and from them, we are nurturing the stingless bees in order to have several colonies, which we shall introduce into the greenhouses.” explained Professor omollo. From the time the crops start producing flowers, the bees automatically help in the natural pollination process while going about their daily lives. “We already conducted an experiment with green pepper and the result was huge fruits with tripled yields as compared to the greenhouse without the bio bees,” Professor Omollo said.

A new report released earlier this year suggests that the success of any small business may depend on the owners’ discipline in managing their personal finances and business cash flow. The report, titled “Understanding the Financial Vulnerabilities of Microbusiness Owners”, was based on a survey by the Corporation for Enterprise Development (CFED), is a non-profit organisation that aims to help low- and moderate-income households build and preserve their assets. It says discipline in the management of personal finances and the survival of the business are inter-connected, especially among many small businesses.

The CFED conducted an online survey among 716 microbusiness owners and a telephone survey of 214 others in different countries. The survey classified any enterprises with five employees or less, including the owner, as microbusiness.Revenues of the businesses in the CFED’s survey ranged from less than Sh363, 000 a month to more than Sh742, 500 a month, and in most cases, the business was the owner’s primary job. Among the online respondents, 55 per cent said they could only cover a single month’s business expenses with their savings while 30 per cent said had no business savings at all.

To avoid looking like a clown, one needs to know the tricks of applying it.The first thing to do is to find the perfect colour that matches one’s cheeks when they are flushed. For a quick test, slap your cheeks lightly and use the resulting colour as a guide. Another way is to match your lip colour. Generally, those with light complexion look great in rose, fair look good in peach and dark glow in apricot or red. When you find the perfect colour, choose the right formula for your skin type. Liquid and gel or powder are typically best for oily and combination skin while cream is great for dry skin. For even better results, combine cream and powder. This will help the blush stay on longer and make it look brighter.Blush is usually one of the last makeup steps, but one can experiment with what works best for them. Some makeup artists prefer applying blush before foundation for a more natural look. The most important thing

The orange lipOrange lipstick has been on the scene for a while. Best thing is that it’s now brighter, bolder and looks great on all skin tones. It shows skin in an unexpected way by highlighting your best facial features while adding a conservative touch that allows you to get adventurous with your everyday look. The burgandy lipIf your lips are your best feature, investing in a fab burgundy lipstick shade is one of the easiest ways to update your look. This deep plum color is sultry yet dramatic. If you’re looking for a more mature and confident appearance, then the deep burgundy lipstick is the way to go.

The classic red lipThe red lipstick is a must have investment color for your makeup bag. You can NEVER go wrong with red lipstick! Remember, finding the perfect shade of red is everything to wearing this lip color correctly. Best part, it easily transitions from day to night.Trends come and go but red lipstick remains a lifelong sophistication.

The purple lipNothing says stylish retro look better than a purple stain lipstick. You just have to remember that this is a bold color that can stand on its own. When wearing it, keep the rest of your face as bare as possible.

The fuchsia lipEven though it is really hard to spell, fuchsia is definitely one of the top five colors of 2014. If you’re not keen on wearing it on your body; it’s time to paint those lips. It will brighten your complexion and make your teeth look whiter. And who wouldn’t want whiter looking teeth?

Most-wanted lip colors

when applying blush is to use a professional full brush; but do not use the same brush you use for your face powder.

Trendy lip colors are so in right now! Update your makeup look in a couple of minutes by trying out these amazing hues. Your entire outfit will thank you.

The secret weapon that is blush

A man must have more than enough socks for frequent changing, especially if you hate washing. This not only keeps socks intact, but also keeps feet odourless.Whether it is formal or sports/casual socks, they must be clean, they should fit properly, and match your outfit.Formal wear socks look awesome when sported with a suit, but are not limited to this grooming. It is important to get quality fabric socks which minimize sweating and give you comfort. So, for formal or work use, bet on quality polyester, cotton or acrylic socks. They must fittingly hug your legs to avoid running down and cramping at the ankles — a look that may give an impression of carelessness and untidiness. Without

forgetting, these socks are cool in black, navy or gray because they always go well with the rest of your attire.Never put on bright colored and largely patterned socks for official occasions. When it comes to sportswear, the type of socks worn must be sound in design to stand friction exerted by physical workouts that cause sweating and dirt.In this case, acrylic socks are best because they dry quickly, maintaining comfort.Although cotton socks are not long lasting when it comes to intense activities, they absorb moisture, keeping off sogginess.Good sports or casual socks provide comfort, resist stench and fit well. White socks are not a bad idea for a casual or sports look.

Look into the mirror and smile when applying. This helps to figure out where the apple of your cheek is. It is best to apply blush only to apple.

ews Stephen Hung, a flamboyant

Chinese entrepreneur, has placed an order for 30 extended wheelbase (EWB) Rolls-Royce Phantoms. Each of the limos costs more than $1 million (Sh85million) and this is the largest single order of Phantoms’ history and is worth an equivalent Sh2.5billion. Hung will use the fleet to transfer guests at his Louis XIII hotel in Macau when it opens

in 2016. Hung hasn’t ordered a fleet of run-of-the-mill Rollers. He has opted for Rolls-Royce Bespoke models, custom designed and made vehicles that add to the exclusivity. Each one will be finished in Hung’s chosen red but two of them will also get gold-plated finishes inside and out for the most pampered hotel guests. To ensure the world’s most expensive fleet of hotel

runabouts stay in good shape, Rolls-Royce has helped with the design of the hotel driveways and parking, and will also train the chauffeurs.“The Louis XIII fleet of Phantoms promises to be one of most impressive sights ever seen in Macau when they arrive at the Louis XIII hotel in 2016. Mr Hung’s commission reaffirms Phantom’s pinnacle position as the motor car of

choice for those seeking to experience the finest luxury the world has to offer,” Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes, Rolls-Royce CEO, said. While Hung’s order may seem extravagant, he still has a long way to go to eclipse the largest private collections of Rolls-Royce vehicles. The Guinness World Records is held by the Sultan of Brunei with around 500 models.

Finally, the Maharaja walked down the front steps, gave a slight nod in the direction of the cars and asked his assistant to use them for collecting municipal rubbish

A wise man once said that wherever there is a car, there is a story.

One of the most famous motoring stories ever told was that of the pleasant pleasure of delayed revenge by an Indian ruler on the Rolls-Royce Limited Company. The Maharaja (king) of Alwar

walked into a Mayfair car showroom in the 1920s and

pointed to a Rolls-Royce Phantom II Tourer.

He had nothing to identify him as a prominent member of society. His dressing was practically shabby. The showroom salesman ignored him, believing the man was just there to kill time. Angered at the lack of attention, the maharaja asked for the manager and pointing to seven cars said: “I will have every one of these.” “But there is one condition - this young man (the salesman who had earlier ignored him) escorts them to India.” He paid for the cars and as per the agreement, the young salesman accompanied the fleet to India. When they arrived, they were arrayed in front of the maharaja’s palace, with the proud salesman standing alongside them. The Maharaja finally walked down the front steps, gave a slight nod in the direction of the cars and asked his assistant to use them for collecting municipal rubbish.“That incident was burnt into the collective family memory,” Jeetender Singh, the last ruling Maharaja of Alwar told the Telegraph. “We were perhaps the only royal family that was allowed to buy any car except a Rolls-Royce. We have numerous vintage cars, but not a single Rolls.”

The Indian Maharaja’s Rolls-Royce revenge story

Matano rails at ‘poor’ officiating

Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez insisted he hasn’t been frustrated by his lack of opportunities under new boss Luis Enrique after starting for the first time this season in a much-changed side in a 1-0 victory over APOEL Nicosia on Wednesday.Gerard Pique’s first-half header was enough to hand the Catalans an unconvincing winning start to their Champions League campaign against the Cypriot champions.Xavi started alongside youngsters Sergi Samper and Sergi Roberto in midfield as Enrique made nine changes in all from the side that started Saturday’s 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao.“I am happy. When my turn to play comes I will try to be useful,” said the 34-year-old, who moved level with Real Madrid legend Raul for the all-time record of Champions League appearances with 142.Despite the presence of Lionel Messi and Neymar in attack, Barca struggled to create clear-cut chances against the mass ranks of the APOEL defence and Xavi admitted the lack of fluidity in the final third.“We struggled. We tried to move the ball quickly and we didn’t manage to do it,” he added.“It is true we dominated. We tried through the middle and wide, but they defended very well.“In the end it was a tiring game, but we have won and we have to treat it like it is. It is always good to start the group stage with three points.”

Rosberg welcomes new FIA race radio ordersNico Rosberg, the Formula One championship leader, has welcomed a stringent crackdown on mobile driving instruction via team radio by the stewards, lauding the “purer” racing it should produce in this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix. The FIA, motorsport’s governing body, responded to concerns raised by team principals as well as F1

luminaries such as the four-time champion Alain Prost that drivers were being given too much detailed advice on how to drive the car. In a directive sent to the teams earlier this week, Charlie Whiting, race director, spelled out a list of allowed messages – largely regarding safety, and pit stop strategies – as well as those which are now banned.

These include where a team-mate or competitor is quicker, or instructions about saving fuel, which have irked many who feel the gladiatorial image of F1 drivers has been tarnished. The FIA also clarified that coded messages will not be tolerated. Rosberg (pictured) is widely regarded as one of the drivers who has made best use of the ability to ask

race engineers for almost any piece of information, including where his team-mate Lewis Hamilton might be faster or where he should conserve fuel on any given lap. But that has not stopped him praising the FIA’s sudden move before Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix. Rosberg, leads Hamilton by 22 points in the drivers’ standings .

Ulinzi Stars coach Robert Matano says Kenya Premier League needs to improve the standards of officiating. Matano spoke after Wednesday’s league match against champions Gor Mahia, which ended in barren draw at the City Stadium. The ill-tempered mid-week clash saw Gor dislodge Sofapaka from the top on 44 points with Ulinzi on seventh with 32 points. “It was a good match destroyed by poor officiating. It came as no

surprise because the referee has always been biased against my team,” said Matano. “We will continue to fight on to the end. We will not give up because we need more points.” Ulinzi played the final 20 minutes with 10 men after skipper Stephen Ocholla was sent off after a second yellow card of the match. “Referees need to be impartial, especially in the crucial homestretch where every minute counts, we

shouldn’t be seeing that,” Matano said adding that he has now turned his attention to Sunday’s clash with leading relegation candidates Nakuru AllStars at the Afraha Stadium. “We got to be tough against them, they need more points to survive, with fans rallying behind them it won’t be an easy one to call.” This evening, there will be double header at the Ruaraka grounds where KRA will play Sony Sugar

before Tusker take on Nairobi City Stars in the later lick off. Tomorrow at the Mumias sports complex, 12th placed AFC Leopards will host KCB, who are two places below them in a match both teams need to win to stay away from a possible axe from the premier league. Champions Gor will host Chemelil Sugar at the City Stadium while Bandari welcome Western Stima in Mombasa on the same day.

Sh22m for Zuku varsity

league

Riara University and Strathmore University are some of the 13 additional teams to the 2014/15 Zuku Universities Basketball League (ZUBL) that gets underway this weekend in Nairobi. The conferences have been increased from five to six after Rift Valley was split into two. The new conferences are Nairobi, Central, Coast, Western, Rift Valley Zone I and Rift Valley Zone B. Other entrants are Zetech University,

Gretsa University, Multimedia University, Africa Nazarene University, Kenyatta University and Co-operative College. The season has also officially shifted from May and will now run from September to April. “The four months were not enough so we had to increase it to accommodate the high number of teams. That is the main reason for the season change,” said Kenya Universities Sports Association (KUSA) vice chairman

Boniface Salano. First leg games will start tomorrow and conclude by November 8 while second leg is slated to begin on January 17, 2015 and conclude on March 7. The conference playoffs featuring the top four teams in every conference for both men and women will be held on March 14 and 21.  The top two teams in every conference will then head to the national championships that will be held in April 3-5 at the Safaricom Indoor

Arena, Kasarani. The league sponsors, Wananchi Group through Zuku, are giving Sh22 million in a sponsorship from which slightly over Sh1 million will go to cash prizes with the winners each categories getting Sh150,000 each while the runners up will take home Sh100,000. The third-placed team will win Sh. 75, 000 with winners of every conference taking home Sh. 20, 000 and Sh. 10, 000 for the runner-up.

THE LAUNCH: Players from different universities pose in the kit for the new Zuku Universities season at the launch yesterday.
