At our newest exhibit, visitors travel back in time to the Carolina Piedmont during the Ice Ages! Long ago, massive mastodons browsed our woodlands, giant ground sloths ambled along forest edges, and fierce sabercats prowled grasslands on the hunt for horses, camels, elk and other grazing mammals. With scenic displays, fossils, models, mounts and skeletons, visitors

can discover how our landscape was quite different “way back when” and find some surprising similarities to our place in time today.

Our Naturalist Center offers access to diverse natural history specimens, from taxidermy mounts to animal bones, rocks, minerals, and plants. More than 200 mounted African animals and an outstanding collection of African artifacts provide unique learning opportunities. See an elephant, giraffe and lions in naturalistic settings. Visit the Vernon Grant Gallery, devoted to the creator of Kellogg’s Rice Krispies characters Snap! Crackle! Pop!

The Chronicle Marker at Kings Mountain National Military Park is the second oldest battlefield monument (1815) in the United States. The park preserves the entire battlefield site in a natural setting evocative of the Carolina frontier of 1780, which commemo-rates one of the most important Patriot victories of the American Revolution. The park includes a 1.5 mile battlefield trail that is a walking-only trail, a film pre-sentation, and museum exhibit area with battlefield artifacts, a gift shop and bookstore, and a hiking trail. There is a backcountry campsite approximately three miles from the visitor center, and horse trails are also available for visitors who bring their own horses.

White Street, Rock Hill, SC 29730803.329.1020 • www.historicrockhill.com Built in 1839, in what is now the historic East Town Dis-trict, the White Home was one of the first homes con-structed in Rock Hill, South Carolina. In 2005, after five generations of the White family caring for this treasure, Historic Rock Hill purchased the property and began a five year restoration effort. The present-day site is a house museum that spans more than three-acres and includes the main house and out-buildings. Today this beautiful three-acre site includes a house mu-seum with a collection of historic photographs and docu-ments and a gift shop featuring local artisans. The home is also the base of operations for Historic Rock Hill and it serves also as a venue for community events.

The market is open Saturdays, May - October 8 a.m. - Noon, and the farm is currently open for self guided tours during market hours and guided tours and live interpretations during special events.

Sylvia Theatre27 North Congress Street, York, SC 29745803.684.5590 • www.sylviatheater.com

The last time the building was used for entertainment, was in 1968, since then, it has gone through many “metamorphosed” incarnations: as a movie house, a hotel, a storage building and as a teacher’s supply shop. Owner, Paul Finnican saw the unrealized potential and architectural integrity of the 100-year old building, coupled that with his desire to provide a venue for the singer-songwriters in this particular area and proceeded to purchase and personally renovate it. After completely redoing the interior and adding some nice touches, this theatre has been brought back to her well deserved sta-tus as a place to enjoy the arts.
