Bournemouth & BeaulieuBournemouth is one of the most popular seaside destinations

in the UK. The area strives on its beautiful beaches and miles of

outstanding coastline. The tour is based in the Elstead Hotel in a

central location only a short stroll from the beach. From here you

visit Poole and catch the ferry to discover the local wildlife. Then

have a day to relax in Bournemouth where there is an abundance

of seaside shops, cafes and restaurants. After your day of relaxing

head to the New Forest where a full day is spent exploring the

many attractions.

Monday Arrive at hotel Arrive at the Elstead Hotel where you will be welcomed with tea/coffee before dinner and your first nights stay.

Tuesday Poole and Brownsea Island After a leisurely breakfast we take the short trip to the coastal town of Poole. Here we catch the ferry out to Brownsea Island where you have time on the Nature Reserve with its walks, wildlife, café and church. Return to Poole in time for some lunch (own arrangements) with time to relax, take in the sea air before dinner.

Wednesday Day in Bournemouth Today you can choose what you want to do. The seaside resort has plenty of things to see including modern boutique shops, places to eat, attractions and not to mention 7 miles of sandy beach. Take a walk along the promenade or visit the Pavilion Theatre where they have live shows suitable for all tastes. The decision is down to you.

Thursday Ancient New Forest and Beaulieu After breakfast we travel through the New Forest to Beaulieu. Beaulieu has been home to the Montagu family since 1538 and is home to the world famous National Motor Museum. You will have all-inclusive access to all the attractions, which include the Motor Museum, the James Bond Experience, Palace House and Gardens, the Abbey, the SOE Exhibition and the World of Top Gear! Be transported round the attractions with a ride on the replica 1912 London Bus or the Monorail. There is enough to do to spend the whole day here before returning to the hotel in time for dinner and your final nights stay.

Friday Head Home After breakfast it is time to leave the seaside and return home.

One of the most intact Elizabethan Houses in the country. One of the pleasant features of the gardens is that they lie round the Manor House, so you see every exterior view of this magnificent house. Tuesday Leeds Castle Widely regarded as the most beautiful castle in the world. Built on two islands in the middle of a lake. This classic English castle is surrounded by 500 acres of parkland and gardens. Afterwards and if you have time, recommend time free in nearby Canterbury. Returning to the hotel in time for dinner.

Wednesday Hever Castle and Gardens A beautiful moated castle dating back to the 13th century and best known for being the childhood home of Anne Boleyn. In 1903, an American William Waldorf Astor spent a small fortune filling the castle with treasures and landscaping the gardens with over 3000 plants, with a magnificent Italian Garden, various statues and a lake. Return to the hotel for your final nights stay.

Tuesday Jurassic Coast Cruise After a leisurely breakfast we head to the seaside town of Exmouth where you will board the boat for a cruise along England’s ONLY Natural World Heritage Site and see the Jurassic Coast in the best way possible. This 2-3 hour Jurassic Coast cruise boat trip will show you the oldest end of the coastline from the Triassic Era, over 150 million years old. A full commentary is given on the history and wildlife including Kittiwakes, Periguine Falcons and, for the lucky few, the dolphins. Your camera is a must on this beautiful cruise. We return to the Astor along the coastal road via Torquay and Paignton.

Wednesday Maritime City of Plymouth A day at leisure in the maritime city of Plymouth. The hotel is situated in the centre of the town that gives easy access to the many attractions, shops and places to eat. Overlooking one of the Worlds great natural harbours. A historic city of international proportions Plymouth has been the forefront or wolrd maritime exploration for hundreds of years. The Barbican area in Plymouth is one of the oldest and beautifully preserved original trading ports, dating back to the time of Sir Frances Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh. This vibrant waterfront city combines a spirited maritime heritage and a lively cultural scene which can be enjoyed by everyone.

Thursday Eden Project After breakfast you will head along the coast through the fishing villages of Looe with its harbour and Polperro with its narrow winding streets and alleys, the perfect Cornish village, before arriving at the Eden Project. Plenty of time to view the vast arrangements of tropical plants and trees under the cover of the futuristic conservatories. Return to your hotel in time for dinner.

Historical Severn Valley Classic is delighted to introduce this new tour to wonderful

Shropshire. You have the choice of a 5-day holiday or a short

break. On the 5 day tour you will discover the birthplace of the

industrial revolution, Ironbridge. You will take a journey on the

famous Severn Railway before a leisurely trip to Shrewsbury and

the Welsh borders to enjoy some of the country’s finest unspoilt

scenery. The area offers and abundance of tranquil borderlands of

meadows, hillsides, lakes and villages to explore.

Tuesday Ironbridge After breakfast we will be taking a step back in time as we travel to Ironbridge. It was here that inspired the start of the industrial revolution. You will have the full day starting with a taste of the Gorge in the museum. Your ticket provides you with access to all 10 attractions located in the area, including the short journey to visit Blists Hill Victorian Town. Costumed staff give you a warm welcome to the open-air museum and a fascinating insight into how life was lived in Victorian Times. Visit the Ironbridge itself and the other many fascinating museums. If you do not manage to visit everything that Ironbridge has to offer, your ticket is valid for a year so feel free to return.

Wednesday Severn Valley Railway After a leisurely breakfast we head to Kidderminster to catch the Steam Train to Bridgnorth. You will then have the afternoon in the once thriving 17th Century river port to visit the many shops and attractions, including a leaning castle where Charles I lost his head, and the oldest and steepest inland funicular railway in England.

Thursday Powis Castle and Gardens After breakfast we pop over the Welsh border to Welshpool, where we have arranged entrance to the 700 year old Powis Castle, with all its paintings and treasures and its world famous 26-acre glorious gardens. If time permits then there is some time free in Shrewsbury, with its black and white timbered homes, playing host to many shops and traditional pubs. Returning to the hotel for dinner.

Friday Travel Home After breakfast it is time to head back home.

Tuesday Embsay Railway and Bolton Abbey After breakfast you will head to board the Embsay railway where the steam train takes you to Bolton Abbey entry is included. You have the rest of the day to explore the vast array of walks, shops, restaurants, tea rooms and cafes before heading back to the hotel in time for dinner.

Wednesday York Today after a leisurely breakfast we take the short trip to the ancient city of York. You will have most of the day to discover all the city has to offer. York Minster is the main focal point of the area, however a visit to The Shambles is a must. This street was home to the butchers of York and its name derived from the shelves where butchers displayed their meat. The street now boasts craft and gift shops, along with restaurants and sweets shops. After your leisurely day we head back to the hotel in time for dinner.

Thursday Eden Camp Museum A trip back in time is the order of the day. We travel to the Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum to take us back to World War II, housed within the grounds of an original WWII prisoner of war camp. The museum has one of the largest and most comprehensive displays of British military history, dating back to 1914. You will then have time to visit the market town of Malton before returning to the hotel for dinner.

Friday Travel Home After breakfast it is time to head back home.

Tuesday Lake Windermere After breakfast a day out exploring the Southern Lakes, stopping off at Haverthwaite, and a single 4 mile journey on the scenic Steam train to Lake Winderemere, proceeding to the famous Holker Hall & Gardens. Return to the hotel via Lake Coniston (of Bluebird fame) and Ambleside in time for dinner.

Wednesday Ullswater Leisurely breakfast, then north over the Fells and Kirkstone Pass and a 1 hour cruise on the Ullswater Steamer, depart Glenridding with time for a coffee at Pooley Bridge. Thursday The Dales (Shapwells Hotel only) Today is the best of the Yorkshire Dales. Stop at Gartsdale, where you see the Settle to Carlisle railway and the magnificent viaducts. Continue to Hawes with time for a tea break before going over spectacular Buttertub Pass leaving Wensleydale and into Swaledale. Stop at the quaint market town of Reeth for lunch (own arrangements). Then across the moors and a chance to see imposing Bolton Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned. Tuesday Beamish Museum The highlight of the tour awaits. Travel to Beamish Open Air Museum. Step back into the past and to a time where there were no televisions; and trams were the preferred mode of transport. The 300 acres of living history gives you the chance to meet the people who lived and worked in the past. Talk to the dentist, schoolteacher, miners, farmers, engine drivers and pitman’s wife. This is a museum with a difference. There are places to eat and drink with its tearoom and other small cafes. Spend most of the day at the museum before making your way back to the hotel in the late afternoon.

Wednesday Barnard Castle and Raby Castle Today we will travel to the delightful Raby Castle. Set within a 250-acre deer park, with beautiful walled gardens, the castle was built by the mighty Nevills in the 14th Century. The building contains fine furniture, artwork and architecture, along with the Barons Hall where it is thought 700 knights gathered to plot the doomed Rising of the North. Afterwards we travel to the market town of Barnard Castle where a flourishing market is held on ‘the cobbles’ in Market Place every Wednesday. Tuesday Rheilffordd Ffestiniog Railway and Snowdonia After a leisurely breakfast depart the hotel for the journey to the Blaenau Ffestiniog. Tuesday Llandovery Take the short journey to the Brecon Beacons National Park. Our 6 ½ mile walk (approx 4-5 hrs), on the North Western rim of the Park, takes us through quiet river meadows and rolling hills. Steeped in history Llandovery so typifies rural Wales, and is home to the “Drovers” Museum, Wales’s first bank and an ancient castle. Here also, William Williams, the greatest of all Welsh hymn writers was born.

WednesdayThe Gower Britain’s first designated “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty”. Our walk crosses fields leads us towards the Gower’s rugged coastline. The trail takes us beyond secluded bays, past Iron Age forts and the enchanting “Worm’s Head”. Walk concludes at Rhossili, overlooking the cliff towards Llangennith. This is a 6-mile linear walk (approx 4hrs).

ThursdayBosherton Famous for its lily ponds. Our journey offers you the chance to experience the outstanding views as we pass by the ponds, through the woodlands and down to the seashore. The leisurely pace of this tour is an ideal way to wind down at the end of this holiday. This is a circular journey (approx 7 miles – 4hrs).

FridayAfter breakfast you will take the journey home.

coastal town of Oban in the West Highlands and the main

Monday 3 Star Oban Hotel Travel past Stirling and into the glorious Highland countryside reaching your waterfront hotel in time for dinner.

Tuesday Bridge over the Atlantic After a leisurely breakfast, morning free to explore Oban. After lunch, a half day tour to Seil Island, made famous for the film “Ring of Brightwater.” Over the Atlantic Bridge opening up magnificent scenery of the islands & coastline. In the quaint village of Easdale with its whitewashed fishermans cottages, there is a micro brewery for those wishing to sample the local brew, quaint shops and a large souvenir shop and café.

Wednesday Mull and Iona Today you will travel across to Mull on the ferry with your coach. Departs approx 1000hrs. Once on the island travel south taking in the scenery sighting the imposing Duart Castle, reaching the most westerly point of the island, Fionnphort. Here you board the short ferry journey on foot to the small island of Iona to visit the abbey (entry included). Many easy walks in the area and plenty of time to enjoy the island & its beach before heading back to catch your ferry arriving in Oban around 1800hrs.

Driver day If your driver requires a day off then the passengers can take the ferry from Oban to Mull where a private coach will be waiting, for a tour taking them to Iona, ferry included. Around 2 hours free to explore the Abbey (entry included) and the surroundings before returning to Mull and then Oban in time for dinner. £18pp extra.

Thursday Loch Linnhe and Fort William A scenic coastal drive along the shoreline of the loch takes you to Fort William at the foot of Ben Nevis. Time free to explore the main town of the West Highlands. A short drive takes you to Nevis Range and the cablecar ride into the mountains with its walks, magnificent views of Glencoe, Ben Nevis, and on a clear day you can see Isle of Skye. There is a comfortable bistro & observation balcony. Returning to Oban for dinner.

Scottish Marine Wildlife Cruises This new 2 centre tour is based in the magnificent West

Highlands, on the Atlantic coastline. A unique tour

experiencing the beauty of the Hebridean Islands, and the

cruises are included. One to the mystical isles of Rhum and

Monday As you enter the Highlands the scenery is everchanging, with Glencoe, Fort William, Glenfinnan and Loch Morar. Arriving at the Morar Hotel, Morar for the next three nights.

Tuesday Eigg and Rhum Cruise After a leisurely breakfast depart Arisaig at 11.00am on the MV Sheerwater cruising to the Hebridean Isles of Eigg and Rhum. With a short stop on Eigg & 2 hrs on Rhum. Returning to Arisaig by 1800. A wide variety of sea and bird life can be spotted on this cruise and is not unusual to take a small detour to watch Minke Whales, Basking Sharks or Dolphins.

Wednesday Driver Day Off Take the local bus to Mallaig and cruise on Loch Nevis, take the train to Fort William or take a stroll down to the beach.

Thursday Isle of Skye Take the ferry over to Skye driving along the coast before reaching the bridge to join the mainland again. Stop off at Plockton made famous by Hamish MacBeth with its palm trees. Drive through the glens of the Northwest Highlands and along Loch Maree and Lochcarron. Arriving at the loch side Dundonnell Hotel for 2nts DBB.

Friday Marine Wildlife Cruise Join the captain on the marine wildlife cruise. Throughout the trip you will be on the look out for porpoise, whale, dolphin and basking shark activity in the coastal waters around Ullapool. There are also frequent sightings of otters and seals plus many seabirds including white-tailed & golden eagles. Binoculars are recommended but not supplied.

Saturday The Highland Capital After breakfast depart the hotel and head for Inverness with time free. Continuing south to see Osprey Centre near Boat of Garten (May – August). Afterwards travel through delightful Speyside to your 3* hotel. You can book your stay in Speyside, Perthshire or as far south as Glasgow to suit your onward journey on Sunday.

Wednesday North Uist Start your day with a magnificent drive across Skye before catching the cruise from Isle of Skye to North Uist , with lunch on board (own arrangements). Thursday Isle of Harris After a leisurely breakfast head north and the ferry crossing to the largest of the Hebridean Islands, the Isle of Harris. Friday The Great Glen and Loch Ness Cruise Shortly after breakfast, we depart the hotel travelling north through Fort William, stopping off at the Commando Memorial in Spean Bridge with views of Ben Nevis and photo opportunities. Continue along the Great Glen through Fort Augustus. A cruise is arranged on the beautiful and mysterious Loch Ness before arriving in the town of Beauly and the central Priory Hotel for the next 3nts.

Saturday Free day in Beauly Explore this amazing area with many walks around the town. The train station is about 10 minute walk away if you would like to take the short train journey to Inverness. Sunday North West Highlands Today we embark on a full day tour. Firstly, to the fishing and ferry terminal of Ullapool. Marvel at the scenery in a land steeped in history with breathtaking views and no shortage of photo opportunities. Monday Travel north through the Borders and arrive at the 3 star hotel of your choice, settling in time for dinner.

Tuesday Jacobite Steam Train reserved seats on the nostalgic West Highland line, steam hauled. Made famous in the Harry Potter movies. The journey takes approximately 2 hours each way with free time to explore the fishing village of Mallaig. The Jacobite Steam train is one of Europe’s most popular train journey’s absorbing Loch Eil, Caledonian Canal, Glenfinnan Viaduct & Monument and Loch Morar – Scotland’s deepest Loch. Absorb the beautiful views of Eigg, Muck and Rhum. Price includes ½ passengers on the outleg and remaining ½ on return with the coach taking the other ½ passengers each way. The rail journey is very different than by road. A Stop will be made at Glenfinnan for photo opportunities of the monument, viaduct and Loch Shiel. Departing 10.20 from Fort William and returning 16.00.

Wednesday The Kyle Line from Inverness catch the train for Kyle of Lochalsh, by the Isle of Skye. A rail journey passing moorlands and mountain regions, quoted by Michael Palin as being one of the most beautiful rail journeys in Europe. Once in Kyle, a short journey with your coach over the bridge to Skye with time for sightseeing. Similar to Tuesday passengers do one leg by rail and the other leg by coach.

Thursday Aviemore to Broomhill A leisurely drive to Aviemore and free time to explore the resort and shops before boarding the Strathspey Steam train at 10.30am departing Aviemore to Broomhill – most famously known as Glenbogle in the popular ‘Monarch of the Glen’ series. Hauled by steam the one way 45 minute journey passes through Boat of Garten. Afterwards continue on our journey to Glenfiddich whisky distillery where we have a guided tour and a wee dram arranged. Time free in Grantown on Spey before returning to the hotel to get ready for your final Scottish dinner, with Scottish entertainment.

Set in grounds designed and landscaped over 200 years ago and the walled garden with its fruits, and vegetables over 300 years old. There are also some beautiful lochside walks. After your day head back to the hotel in time for dinner.

Wednesday Inverness & Loch Ness. A more leisurely day today. Firstly to Loch Ness, make sure you have your camera to the ready, just in case! Then time free in Inverness the Highland Capital. After lunch stop off at Cawdor Castle and Gardens, the scene of Shakespeare’s MacBeth, and entrance included into the castle and gardens. Dinner & overnight.

Thursday Dunrobin Castle and Gardens Today will be spent at the magnificent Dunrobin Castle and Gardens. Tuesday Kyle Railway Line and Skye Cruise After breakfast head to the ‘Capital of the Highlands’, Inverness. Where half the passengers will board the train to Kyle of Lochalsh, known as one of the most outstanding journeys in the world. (The other half taking the journey by coach). Once you arrive in Kyle of Lochalsh all passengers will climb aboard the glass bottom boat – Seaprobe Atlantis – for a cruise heading out underneath Skye bridge and out to Seal Island. You will have a chance to see the local wildlife above and below the water, such as seals and dolphins. Return to Kyle where the other half of the passengers will take the return journey to Inverness. The journey by road is different to the rail. Returning to the hotel in time for dinner and entertainment.

Wednesday Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle Morning free to explore Inverness. There are many shops and things to do before taking the short journey to the Loch Ness Clansman Harbour. Here you board the cruiser to take you out onto the Loch and to Urquhart Castle. With entrance included to the castle and visitor centre. The coach will then pick you up from the castle and take the scenic journey back to the hotel in time for dinner and entertainment.

Thursday Aviemore and Funicular Railway Morning free, then to the magnificent Cairngorm Mountains. Firstly, time in Aviemore before you board the UK’s highest Mountain Railway, have a bite to eat in the UK’s highest restaurant, visit the shop and exhibition about the Cairngorms or take one of the many walks around the area. Day 1A warm welcome awaits you at the Abington hotel. On arrival Tea/Coffee will be served whilst the porters take care of your luggage. Join your fellow passengers for a Bucks Fizz reception in the lounge. Our Christmas Eve menu is served followed by tea/coffee.

Day 2Start the day with a cooked breakfast afterwards why not enjoy a day out in Edinburgh and visit the Chirstmas markets. Santa is sure to make an appearance tonight with a gift for all during dinner. Join us for a game of bingo after dinner!

Day 3 Enjoy a Boxing Day breakfast before heading off on another day touring Scotland why not visit the Scottish Borders or pop up to Glasgow. Enjoy a mouth watering 3 course evening meal tonight followed by tea/coffee. Afterwards team up with your new found friends and join our in house team for a quiz night.

Day 4A hearty breakfast is served. On return to the hotel get the glad rags on and celebrate Hogmanay! We start he evening with a Whisky reception in the lounge bar followed by our Hogmanay Banquet. Our ceilidh evening will take you through to Auld Lang Syne.

Dating back to 1740, so a lot of the hotel has “oldey-worldey charm”, with wood panelling, flagstone floors and an open fire. The bedrooms are in a modern extension, so you have the best of both worlds. It’s location is 1st class, less than 1 mile from Loch Ness and loads of excursion possibilities are available both near and far.

A true Scottish castle complete with ghost. As you enter, the dungeons are on the left hand side. A huge open fire greets you. All the bedchambers are individually styled, many are 4 posters. The medieval styled Restaurant has an AA rosette, and the bar has been hand carved from an elm tree from the hotel grounds. Altogether Tulloch is a unique experience.

This is a beautifully central hotel, right on the riverbank and directly opposite the castle. The hotel is over 100 years old, but entirely refurbed in 2003, retaining much of its Victorian grandeur. Many rooms have river views. It is an ideal hotel for a centred stay.
