A NNIVERSARIES BARR In 1947, at 30th Street Station in Philadelphia, 16 year old Edward Barr, spotted a 15 year old beauty, Elizabeth Ann Travascio. Unbeknownst to everyone around, this was the very beginning of an amazing story. Five years later, at Our Lady of Lords in Philadelphia, Anne and Ed were married. In 1954, they welcomed a daughter, the first of their 11 children. Nine more daughters and a son followed. The son falls 8th in line, everyone asks that question! Mr. and Mrs. Barr moved their family from Philadelphia and found their way to Sea Isle City in 1969. The family had a country store in Townsends Inlet, a tavern on Rt. 50 in Estell Manor, and years later, Ten Sisters Country Store on Route 9 in Ocean View. This was where Ed set up a small outside section of Shibe Park, with stadium seating. Anyone who knows Ed Barr, knows of his passion for baseball. Ed played in the Minor Leagues when he was younger before enlisting in the United States Air Force. After being a home maker and raising 11 children, Anne went to work for the City of Sea Isle in the Tax Collectors office. Both Ann and Ed are retired, she from the City of Sea Isle and he from the County of Cape May. On May 24, 2012, Ed and Ann Barr will celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary. What started as 2 young students at West Catholic has grown to include 11 children, 30 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and another on the way. We would like to say Thank you! Your model of unconditional love, hard work, motivation and encouragement to each of us has demonstrated how to have success within our own families, as well as in our education and careers. Though many last names make up this group, being apart of The Barr Family is truly a privilege.
