Founded in 1819 by CaptainAldridge Partridge, Norwich Universityin nestled in the Green Mountains inNorthfield, Vermont. Norwich is the na-tion’s oldest private military college.

Today Norwich University of-fers educational opportunities for bothundergraduate and graduate students.The undergraduate experience offers achoice of being in the Corps of Cadetsor as a civilian student. Both lifestyles areintegrated within the classroom, athleticteams, and student organizations.

Norwich’s undergraduate stu-dent population of 2000 hail from 40different states and 20 foreign countries.Eighty-one percent of the 112 facultyhold terminal degrees. Norwich boasts astudent to faculty ratio of 14:1 and isproud of its long tradition of excellencein teaching and personal attention givento students.

Thirty academic programs, in-cluding a teacher/education licensureprogram, and four ROTC programs areoffered. Norwich is the birthplace of tehROTC program due to the innovativeeducational methods of Alden Partridge.

As an NCAA Division IIIschool, the University sponsors varsityathletic competition in men’s andwomen’s ice hockey, football, men’s andwomen’s soccer, men’s and women’scross country, baseball, softball, men’sand women’s lacrosse, women’s volley-ball, wrestling, men’s tennis and men’sand women’s swimming and diving, aswell as men’s and women’s rugby.

On campus, Norwich offers 80clubs and organizations including aca-demic and professional societies, specialinterest clubs and a range of religious,military and community service organi-zations.

Under its School of GraduateStudies, Norwich offers 10 online grad-uate degrees at the Master’s level and onecertificate program. Enrollment in thegraduate school is 1200 students.

Norwich University is located inNorthfield, Vt., just 15 miles from Mont-pelier, the state capital.

Anthony MarianoDirector of Athletics

Well into his fourth decade of serviceto Norwich University, Tony Marianocontinues to provide leadership to aNorwich athletics program that has at-tained unprecedented levels of success.The 2003-04 season was arguably thefinest in school history as all 16 varsity

sports teams competed in postseason action, highlighted by thefootball team's first bowl game appearance in 20 years, and themen's ice hockey team competing in its sixth Division III "FrozenFour." Additionally, the Norwich men's rugby team qualified forthe 16-team USA Rugby Collegiate Championship for the first timein program history.

Mariano is in his 18th year as the Director of Intercolle-giate Athletics, after spending his first 16 seasons in Northfield asa coach. He was head men's soccer coach from 1978-84, beforebeing named head men's ice hockey coach in 1982. Under Mari-ano's guidance, the Norwich men's ice hockey team made its firstpostseason appearance in 1984, and went on to appear in sevenECAC tournaments and earn two NCAA Championship berths.Mariano stepped down as head coach in 1992 when he assumed hiscurrent duties as athletic director.

Mariano is a 1974 graduate of St. Lawrence Universitywith a degree in physical education. He received his master's degreefrom Norwich in 1975. Tony and his wife Gail reside in North-field. Their son, Tom, is an assistant hockey coach at Hobart.

Amanda CuiffoAssociate Director of AthleticsSenior Women’s Administrator

Amanda Cuiffo is in her sixth year as anadministrator and coach in the NorwichUniversity athletic department. She waselevated in 2010 to Associate Directorof Athletics after serving for five yearsas an assistant athletic director and the

senior woman administrator. Cuiffo also serves as head coach ofNU’s women's volleyball program.

In her role as Associate Director of Athletics, Cuiffooversees the following sport programs: women’s soccer, women’slacrosse, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’sswimming and diving, women’s rugby, softball and women’s bas-ketball. Cuiffo is also the assistant director of compliance, shemonitors contest scheduling, she oversees event management andshe is responsible for aspects of student-athlete affairs to includesupervision of Norwich’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee(SAAC) and coordination of Norwich’s CHAMPS/Life Skills Pro-gram.

Prior to arriving at Norwich, Cuiffo served as the headwomen's tennis coach at Brandeis University and the assistant vol-leyball coach at Bentley College. Cuiffo also assisted the volleyballteam at Smith College as well as the tennis and squash teams atAmherst College, while completing her graduate work at Smith.

Cuiffo graduated magna cum laude from Colby College in2002. While at Colby, Cuiffo captained the volleyball team duringboth her junior and senior years and was a four-time team MVP.She was named All-New England “Rookie of the Year” in 1998,and was twice selected to the All-NESCAC second team. Cuiffoalso competed for two years on Colby’s tennis team, captaining thesquad during her senior year. Cuiffo went on to graduate magnacum laude from Smith College, earning a M.S. in Exercise andSport Studies.

David BotelhoHead Athletic Trainer

David Botelho is in his 16th season asthe head athletic trainer at Norwich Uni-versity, while serving as a clinical in-structor in the athletic training educationprogram at NU.Botelho came to Norwich from Hamp-

ton University where he served fouryears in the same capacity.

Botelho is a 1989 graduate of Rhode Island College witha degree in physical education and a minor in psychology. Heearned a master's degree in education with an emphasis in athletictraining at Old Dominion University in 1991. He also taught classesin the prevention and care of athletic injuries at Hampton andODU. Botelho is certified by both the National Athletic TrainersAssociation (NATA) and the American Red Cross.

Botelho resides in Essex Junction with his wife Gayle, andtheir sons Jake, Brady and Dylan.

Scott MullenEquipment Manager

Scott Mullen begins his seventh seasonat Norwich. A 1984 graduate of NU,Mullen previously served for 13 years asthe assistant equipment manager atDartmouth, where he worked with a va-riety of Ivy League championship teams.Mullen and his wife Mellissa are the

proud parents of two children, Shawn (15) and Sarah (11). In hisfree time, Mullen enjoys exercising and spending time with his fam-ily.

Charlie CrosbyDirector

Charlie Crosby is in his sixth year in theNorwich University athletic department,and his first as the sports information di-rector.Crosby previously served as the Direc-

tor of Major Gifts in the NU Office ofInstitutional Advancement. Before that,

he was a sales manager for LeCroy, a New York-based firm that de-signs, builds and sells digital high-speed oscilloscopes.

Crosby is a 1963 graduate of Norwich University. He wasa member of both the baseball and rifle teams at NU during hiscollege days. In 2001, he was inducted into the Norwich Hall ofFame.

Crosby and his wife Carole reside in Northfield. Theyhave two daughters and two granddaughters.

Kelley RuchAssistant Director

Kelley Ruch enters her first year as anassistant director of sports informationat Norwich University. She is the pri-mary contact for men’s and women’ssoccer, volleyball, men’s and women’sbasketball, and men’s and women’slacrosse.

Ruch is a 2009 graduate of Saint Michael’s College inColchester, Vermont. Upon graduating, she was the Sports Infor-mation Intern for her alma mater, where she assisted with the dailycoverage and media relations for the College’s 21 varsity sports.

Ruch was a four-year starter for the women’s soccer teamat Saint Michael’s. She also served as the online editor of the Col-lege’s newspaper, The Defender, and interned in the sports infor-mation office in the fall of 2008. At the end of her senior year,she was awarded the George “Doc” Jacobs Award, which is givento the student-athlete who makes an outstanding contribution tothe Saint Michael’s College athletic program.Matt Albury

Matt Albury has been hired as asports information intern for the aca-demic year 2010-2011. He will assistNorwich sports information directorCharles Crosby and assistant directorsDerek Dunning and Kelley Ruch in theday-to-day operations of the office.

Albury will be responsible for multiple duties includingacting as the primary statistician for the majority of sports, pro-ducing game day programs, and assisting with website mainte-nance. He will serve as the primary contact for men’s andwomen’s cross country, men’s and women’s rugby, wrestling,men's and women's swimming and diving, women’s lacrosse andbaseball.

Albury, a 2010 graduate of Norwich, spent the previousfour years as an undergraduate assistant in the sports informa-tion office.

Derek DunningAssistant Director

Derek Dunning is in his first year asan assitant director of sports informa-tion. He is the primary contact for themen's and women's ice hockey teams,men's and women's cross country, andassists with football.He graduated from the State Univer-

sity of New York at Oswego in 2009 with a Bachelor's Degree inJournalism and an athletic coaching minor. While at Oswego, hewrote for the Oswegonian school newspaper as well as the stu-dent-run television station, WTOP where he provided colorcommentary and in-game analysis for hockey broadcasts.

Dunning was a three-year member of the cross countryteam and interned with the Oswego State Hockey Blueline Clubassisting with marketing, media guide sales, and gameday man-agement as well as with the Palladium-Times daily newspaper.

Before coming to Norwich, he has served as theUSCHO.com Division III Women's Correspondent since 2007and worked as a sports reporter for the Leader-Herald dailynewspaper in Gloversville, N.Y.

John HartupeeHead Coach

John Hartupee enters his first season as the head coach of the Norwich University wrestling pro-gram in 2010-11. Hartupee comes to Norwich after spending 13 seasons as the head coach ofDuquesne from 1996 to 2010, where he held a 114-111-4 career record with the Dukes.

Prior to his experience as a head coach, Hartupee served as an assistant coach at an impressivelist of Division-I programs, including Clemson (’81-’83), University of Michigan (’83-’85), Uni-

versity of Pittsburgh (’85-’88), and three years at Duquesne (’93-’96) prior to his promotion.

Hartupee enjoyed celebrated careers as a high school, collegiate and amateur wrestler. He was a three-time Michiganhigh school champion, as well as a two-time high school All-American. Hartupee competed at the highest caliber tobecome a Junior Olympics National Champion and a Junior World National Champion.

Hartupee went on to attend Central Michigan where he was a two-time Mid-American Conference champion, anNCAA runner-up and an All-American as a 118-pounder.

His career continued to blossom after college, as he was titled a Canadian Senior National Champion, a two-timeAAU Senior National Champion, and was a member of the US National Team, garnering a spot as the first alternatefor the 1980 United States Olympic Team. Most recently, amidst his coaching career, Hartupee collected the 1993Masters World Champion title.
