GETTING TO KNOW FNH USA

BACKGROUND

In 1889 the gunsmiths in Belgium’s Liege Region formed an association to fill an order from the Belgian military for 150,000 Mauser rifles built under license. Thus Fabrique Nationale formed and is the origin of today’s FN, a designation that is still a worldwide hallmark of quality.

In 1897, the FN tradition expanded with the partnership of John Moses Browning, one of the most innovative firearms designers in history. Together, FN and Browning produced several of the most prestigious weapons and firearms in the world: the 9mm

Hi Power pistol, Browning machine guns, Auto-5 auto loading shotgun, .22 semi-automatic rifle and B25 Superposed shotgun – arms that were Made in Belgium and are still legendary.

Our products received the ultimate acknowledgement in 1957 and 1982, respectively, when NATO adopted our 7.62 mm and 5.56 mm caliber ammunition designs as their military standard. The success of the M249, M240, .50 caliber machine guns, and the fielding of the FAL (Light Assault Rifle) by more than 90 countries all demonstrate FN’s commitment to excellence.

Medium Machine Guns. FNM also produces the FNP line of handguns for the military, law enforcement and commercial markets and will soon produce the FNH USA line of bolt-action rifles.

FNM is one of only three small arms manufacturers designated by the U.S. Government as the industry base for small arms production. Our reputation for quality and reliability is clearly demonstrated by the fact that 70% of the small arms used by U.S. Forces around the globe bear the FN name.

FUTURE WEAPONS

One of FN’s latest designs, and potentially one of its most influential family of weapons, are the 5.56 mm MK 16 carbine, 7.62 mm MK 17 assault rifle and 40 mm MK 13 Grenade Launcher developed under the Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle (SCAR) program. In January 2004 the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) began soliciting for a new assault rifle, the SCAR.

November of the same year the FN model of the SCAR was chosen over 11 other bids. The enhanced

capability of the FN SCAR is directly related to its modularity (capable of 9 different configurations) and its development process. The FN SCAR will replace seven weapons in the USSOCOM inventory. These weapons were developed hand in hand with SOF operators and FN engineers. The MK 16, MK 17 and MK 13 are truly an operator envisioned, tested and chosen weapon system.

Every weapon we build proudly bears the FN oval, a mark that represents more than a century of experience making the finest firearms in the world.

FN’s full name is Fabrique Nationale Herstal (FNH). Herstal was added to FN when it

became a subsidiary of the Belgian-based company, the Herstal Group. FNH and the Herstal Group are based out of Liege, Belgium, just an hour drive from NATO Headquarters. The Herstal Group is known around the

globe for the quality and performance of its products. Under the brand names

FN Herstal, Browning and Winchester, the Herstal Group designs, manufactures, and

distributes a full range of firearms and accessories for defense, law enforcement, hunting and marksmanship.

70% OF THE U.S. MILITARY’S SMALL ARMS

In the United States FN is represented by two entities; FNH USA, which is responsible for sales, marketing and business development, and FNM which handles manufacturing. The two have a combined workforce of approximately 700 employees.

FNH USA was started in 1998 in McLean, Virginia. FNH USA is split into two separate divisions: military operations and law enforcement/commercial operations. The role of FNH USA is to coordinate business development with all government agencies and grow FN market share in the law enforcement and commercial sector.

FN Manufacturing, located in Columbia, South Carolina, is the U.S. manufacturing arm of FN. Design, research and development, and manufacturing activities are conducted under the authority of the mother company, FN Herstal SA. Some of the weapons that FNM produces for the U.S. Government are M16 rifles, M249 Light Machine Guns and M240

For operators who prefer the proven stopping power of the legendary 45 ACP, the FNP-45 is your handgun.

Highly ergonomic, the FNP-45’s magazine release, decocking/manual safety levers and slide stop levers are

all fully ambidextrous. The FNP-45 features an external hammer, 4.5" hammer-forged stainless steel barrel,

stainless steel slide, full-length guide rod, C-More Systems™ fixed three-dot combat sights and a checkered

polymer frame with interchangeable backstraps and an integrated accessory rail. Every FNP-45 comes

standard with three magazines, a locking device and a lockable fitted hard case. FNP-45 USG high-capacity

models come standard with one 15-round and two 14-round magazines.

Less Lethal Launcher. Using compressed air to launch a fin-stablized .68 caliber

projectile, the FN 303 is able to deliver temporary, less lethal trauma and a

suitable chemical or marking payload to a point-specific target at ranges up to 50

meters with much greater accuracy than competing systems. The FN 303 may be

configured as a stand-alone launcher or attached under either an M16 or M4 rifle

The new Fn Tactical sport Trigger system is a three-lever

trigger that works on the simple principle of the pivoting

lever. Pictured above are the triggerpiece (A), actuator (B)

and sear (C). All internal parts, pins and springs are

precision crafted from stainless steel. The sear and

actuator are electroless nickel Teflon® coated for corrosion

resistance and smoother operation.

The triggerpiece offers a wide, smooth face to better

distribute finger pressure for a lighter, more sensitive feel.

Because of the trigger’s new geometry and 2:1 mechanical

advantage, as the triggerpiece moves rearward (X) it

travels only half the distance of the actuator (2X). Since

this distance is greatly decreased, the perception of trigger

Each of the components used in the new FN line of tactical lights begins as a

solid billet of aircraft-grade aluminum alloy or steel barstock and undergoes

numerous precision machining steps to ensure the highest quality and a

lifetime of reliable service under the most demanding conditions.

FNH USA offers two brilliant solutions to meet every tactical lighting need. Each component in the

Viper X-11 and the Striker-6 begins as a solid billet of aircraft grade aluminum alloy or steel barstock

and then undergoes numerous precision machining steps to ensure a lifetime of dependable service

under the most demanding conditions. Both models offer vibration-isolated 6 volt xenon lamp assemblies,

tempered glass reflector covers and O-ring seals for greater durability and water-resistance. Flashlight

bodies feature rugged, rear-mounted momentary and constant operation switch assemblies, MIL-SPEC

matte black finishes, hardened steel glass-breaking horns, steel wire belt clips and integrated lanyard

bores. The Viper-11 has a recessed switch while the Striker-6 offers an extended switch knob suitable for

use with heavy gloves. These lights are not intended to be used as defensive or offensive weapons.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The FNH USA Training Team is committed to providing comprehensive instruction of the highest standard. Firearm operator, armorer and less lethal instructor/armorer training courses are designed as intensive, hands-on classes for the law enforcement community.

All FNH USA training courses combine elements of practical instruction and theory for an innovative and valuable learning experience. Enrollment in all courses is restricted to active and reserve law enforcement officers and federal agents. Qualified civilian security professionals are eligible for some courses by special arrangement.

Firearms courses are not limited to static shooting techniques. Many classes involve long hours and physically demanding activities. Each attendee must be physically capable of jogging short distances and able to perform the strenuous exercises common in tactical operations. Students are advised to wear clothing suitable for indoor and outdoor range activities.

All classes are conducted off-site. The host agency will receive two free slots with every ten tuition paying registered slots. For more information on how to attend a scheduled course or on hosting a particular training course, contact the FNH USA Training Team.

PLEASE NOTE: All courses are conducted in English and all students should be able to understand and speak English adequately. Students not able to understand instructions in English may be asked to withdraw for safety considerations. Courses are offered in other languages by special arrangement. TUITION PAYMENT

FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION

All firearms, ammunition and personal equipment used in FNH USA Training Courses are the responsibility of the student, unless otherwise noted. A list of firearms, ammunition and personal equipment required is listed with each course description at www.fnhusa.com.

Upon advance arrangements, the FNH USA Training Team can supply all firearms, ammunition and other accessories for use during most training classes. Fees for ammunition and other class supplies must be paid in full at least 10 days prior to the first day of the course unless specific prior arrangement has been made with FNH USA. Please contact the FNH USA Training Team at least two weeks prior to your scheduled class to make such arrangements.

PLEASE NOTE: Reloaded, swaged lead or cast lead bullets, lacquered steel case and aluminum alloy case ammunition are not recommended for use with the FNH USA training firearms. Please direct any questions regarding suitable ammunition to the FNH USA Training Team.

DRESS

Students should wear either BDU or tactical-type pants and comfortable boots that support the ankles for all range and classroom instruction. Clothing suitable for adverse weather conditions is also advised for all range work. Full wraparound eye protection, hearing protection and baseball-style cap are mandatory for all firearms courses and are the student’s responsibility.

It is the student’s responsibility to provide their travel and hotel accommodations. The FNH USA Training Team will coordinate with the host agency in providing the necessary information to the student.
