FIRST GRADE APRIL 2018 Bible We will review the beautiful lesson on Jesus’ resurrection and our gift, should we accept it, of everlasting life. We will continue with stories of children in the Bible who God used mightily in their life times. For example Samuel and David. Ask your students to share these wonderful stories with you. Character traits: individuality, attentiveness, responsibility, courage Students will be tested on verses: Psalm 23:1-3 Tests will be fill-in the blanks/multiple choice format. Math | Grade Level 2 Ms. Kim | Mrs. Francis It is very important that students learn their Multiplication facts. Students will be using multi-steps to solve number and word problems, multiplying with various facts, and working with fractions. Students will bring home flashcards to practice. Developing the habit of 5–10 minutes daily practice will help students to learn these facts. PE / SpanishThis month in PE, students will start preparing for the Fitness Challenge. The Fitness Challenge will include running, flexibly challenges, sit-ups and push-ups. Students are welcomed and encouraged to practice at home! The Fitness Challenge will be May 21-25th!

In Spanish Class, students will continue to work on their Rosetta Stone programs. They will be working on their definite and indefinite articles as well as identifying masculine and feminine words. They will also work on strengthening their interrogatives.

Don’t forget your child’s 15 minutes of Spanish homework

each week!

Chapter Book: Charlotte’s Web, by E. B. White. Charlotte's Web is a novel about the special relationship between a livestock pig, Wilber, and a barn spider named Charlotte. This story is about trust, friendship, hope and confidence.

HistoryAs we continue our studies of American History this month, students will learn about:• Important Revolution battles• Learn about the founders during the

Revolution: George Washington, Martha Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Abigail Adams

• Learn about Molly Pitcher• Battle of Saratoga• Battle of Valley Forge• Begin to look at the Treaty of Paris

Students will draw and label a Battle map of important battles for a grade and they will define 5 vocabulary words and write 5 sentences, also for a grade.

ArtApril looks like another busy month as we will complete our collaborative projects to sell at the ACE Auction this May. The French artist Henri Matisse is our artist for the month of April. We will learn about his life and his contribution to the art world.

The students will examine many collages by Matisse. They will take a closer look at the different shapes and how these shapes may overlap each other. The class will design their own collage using their own cutouts.

TechnologyThis month in Technology Classes Elementary students will build a LEGO Mindstorm robot. After following the instructions to build their robot, the students will each get to write a program to make their robot move.
