IN connexion with the investigations on gold ores beingconducted by the Council in co- operation with the South

Australian School of Mines and Industries, applications areinvited for appointment to the position of Assistant ResearchOfficer.

Applicants should possess a University degree in scienceor engineering (or its equivalent) . Experience in experi-mental work is desirable. The successful applicant will havehis head- quarters at the South Australian School of Minesand Industries, Adelaide.

The commencing salary offered is from £344 to £452 perannum ( nominal) depending on the qualifications andexperience of the successful applicant, the present equivalentafter deductions under the Financial Emergency Act, &c., being£303 to £406.

The successful applicant, if appointed at a salary lessthan £416 per annum (nominal), will be entitled to annualincrements of £18 each (nominal) up to a salary of £416per annum (nominal) subject to satisfactory reports in rela-tion to his efficiency and good conduct. Further incrementswill be at the discretion of the Executive Committee of theCouncil, and will be dependent also upon the performance ofwork of a character justifying increased salary.

The appointment will be made on a temporary basis, butsubject to satisfactory performance of duties it is anticipatedthat it will extend over the period of at least five years onwhich the present scheme of work is based, and that it maybe extended beyond that period.
