LETTER FROM CARDINAL DOLAN

Dear friends in the Lord:

Now that public Masses have begun to be celebrated once

again after months of quarantine for the coronavirus, dioceses

across the country are preparing to collect a main-in or online

offering for the Catholic Missions among Black and Indian

People on the weekend of July 11. I ask for your support for

this important mission.

When we are told that the Lord calls each of us to be co-

missionaries and co-evangelizers of the Church, as was St.

Paul and the other apostles, we do not often realize how much

mission work there is to be done in the United States. There is

far more than you or I could ever imagine. This offering

enables the Church in the United States to provide

desperately required pastoral, educational and spiritual

assistance to some of the neediest of our brothers and sisters

in the Lord. From the inner cities of the rural south to the

deserts of the southwest to the wilderness of Alaska, grants

from this annual appeal make it possible for the Church to

assist our Black and Indian Catholic communities.

Here in the Archdiocese, through the Office of Black Ministry,

our Pierre Toussaint Scholarship Program receives support,

thus allowing us to provide mentoring to college students from

our Harlem and Bronx parishes who are attending Catholic

colleges and committed to leadership and service in their

respective parishes and communities.

With this letter, I invite you to be as generous as you possible

can be in making a sacrificial offering to this crucially

important and necessary ministry of the Church.

With gratitude and prayerful best wishes, and with a warm

welcome as you return to Mass in church, I am, devotedly

CONGRATULATIONS DEACON WESBEE VICTOR

On Sunday June 28, Rev. Mr. Wesbee Victor was ordained a

deacon by Bishop Colacicco. The Catechism teaches, "At a

lower level of the hierarchy are to be found deacons, who

receive the imposition of hands 'not unto the priesthood, but

unto the ministry. He is now a deacon forever marked with

an imprint ("character") on his soul which cannot be removed

and which configures them to Christ the servant of all. The

common tradition of the Catholic Church, East and West, is

that a deacon dedicates himself to the various ministries of

charity and assists at liturgies, especially by proclaiming the

Gospel and praying the petitions in the name of the people of

God. Wesbee is a transitional deacon. He has already made

his promise of celibacy in imitation of Jesus Christ and, God

willing, he will be ordained a priest next spring.

Fishkill from 2-4 PM on Mon., Wed., and Fri. In Poughkeepsie,

we will be open Tues., Wed., and Thurs from 1-3 PM by

appointment only. Birthright relies on your donations if you

SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY

The Catholic Church teaches that marriage is between a man

and a woman; a sign of LOVE and LIFE Catholics should be

married in the church and, if married only civilly, should

speak to one of the priests about receiving the sacrament in

the Church (called convalidation). Please know that you are

welcome to ask questions and to receive direction and advice

about the SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY. Please remember to

secure a date for your wedding before making any

arrangements with caterers, limo drivers, family and friends

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

The usual practice for Catholic burials is a wake service in a

funeral home, a Funeral Mass in the parish church, burial of

the body or cremains in a cemetery (preferably a Catholic

cemetery).Speak with one of the priests for assistance before a

death occurs and speak with a reputable funeral home

director about pre-arrangements. Cremains (ashes) are held

in the same reverence and respect as a body and so they

should be treated carefully, respectfully, reverentially and

buried as soon as possible after cremation.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO SHARE THE PEACE AND JOY

OF OUR FAITH WITH OTHERS. There are so many that are in the need of Jesus. Can you be for

all of us a living sign to all our parishioners and neighbors,

and tell them for us “we need them and love them”. Someone

may hear and accept the invitation from you and return home

to worship the Lord with us. So please invite a friend, relative,

or neighbor to come with you to Church next Sunday. God will

do the rest. Let us share our treasure of faith with others.

SUMMER ATTIRE AT MASS

We ask you to consider your proper dress code for Mass

during the summer months. Please show respect for the

presence of Our Lord and for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass by

dressing appropriately for Mass on Sunday. Please do not

wear inappropriate shorts or shirts, halter tops, flip flops, short

skirts or any other outfits that do not show reverence for the

Mass. Our outward appearance in church shows our inward

respect for the Lord. Thank you for giving good example to

others by the appropriate way you dress for Mass on Sunday

15 MINUTES OF MEDITATION

An 8 week study of 40 subjects by the University of Groningen

found that those who practiced 15 minutes of meditation per

day for 2 non-consecutive weeks felt themselves to be more

alert, attentive, less stressed, and less likely to react

negatively. The 15-minutes of meditation was associated with

similar effects as a day of vacation. This should not be

surprising and it shows the goodness of the Lord. But, if

people can feel refreshed by 15 minutes of non-religious

meditation, how much more should we who know that the Lord

invites us over and over again in Scripture to rest in Him (Ps

23:2, 62:1; Jer 6:16; Mt 11:29; 1 Pt 4:7; Heb 4:9) seek to do so!

A SECOND LOOK AT THE MASS

“Mass is the same every week. I don’t always get something out

of going.” Sound familiar? A ritual we know so well can seem

predictable or even routine.

Consider these gifts you get from attending Mass: Opening your mind to something new. Within the Mass are

lots of intriguing, mysterious, or just plain interesting ideas.

Listen during the Scripture readings, the homily, or the

Eucharistic prayer for something that strikes you and talk with

God about it. He’ll help open your mind to something new. Help others without leaving your seat. We all know people

near and far we would like to help. Distances and barriers

disappear at Mass. When Jesus becomes present in the

Eucharist, the entire Body of Christ is present. So you can

pray for anyone you would like to support and the entire Body

prays with you. Make a change. Find at least one idea within the Mass that

makes sense and seems possible and put it into practice. One

new idea can change your life.

CARTA DEL CARDENAL DOLAN

Estimados amigos en el Senor:

Ahora que las Misas públicas han comenzado a celebrarse una

vez más después de meses de cuarentena por el coronavirus,

las diócesis de todo el país se están preparando para

recolectar una oferta por correo o en línea para las Misiones

Católicas entre personas negras e indias el fin de semana del

11 de julio. Le pido su apoya para esta importante misión.

Cuando se nos dice que el Señor nos llama a cada uno de

nosotros a ser co-misionereros y co-evangelizadores de la

ATENCIÓN DE VERANO EN LA MISA Le pedimos que considere su código de vestimenta adecuado para la

misa durante los meses de verano. Por favor muestre respeto por la

presencia de Nuestro Señor y por el Santo Sacrificio de la Misa

vistiéndose apropiadamente para la Misa el domingo. Por favor, no use

pantalones cortos o camisas inapropiadas, blusas sin mangas, chanclas,

faldas cortas o cualquier otro atuendo que no muestre reverencia por la

misa. Nuestra apariencia externa en la iglesia muestra nuestro respeto

interior hacia el Señor. Gracias por dar un buen ejemplo a los demás

UNA NUEVA MIRADA A LA MISA

"La misa es lo mismo todas las semanas. No siempre obtengo

algo que no funciona.” ¿Te suena familiar? Un ritual que

conocemos tan bien puede parecer predecible o incluso

rutinario. Considera estos regalos que obtienes al asistir a la

Misa: Abriendo tu mente

a algo nuevo. Dentro de la misa hay muchas ideas intrigantes,

misteriosas o simplemente interesantes. Escuche durante las

lecturas de las Escrituras, la homilía o la oración eucarística

por algo que lo golpea y hable con Dios al respecto. Él te

ayudará a abrir tu mente a algo nuevo. Ayuda a otros sin movertede tu asiento

de tu asientoTodos conocemos personas cercanas y lejanas a

las que nos gustaría ayudar. Las distancias y las barreras

desaparecen en la Misa. Cuando Jesús se hace presente en la

Eucaristía, todo el Cuerpo de Cristo está presente. Entonces

Jesús mío, creo que estás presente en el Santísimo

Sacramento. Te amo por encima de todas las cosas y deseo

recibirte en mi alma. Como en este momento no puedo

recibirte sacramentalmente, entra al menos espiritualmente

en mi corazón. Te abrazo como si ya estuvieras allí y me uno

completamente a ti. Nunca permitas que me separe de ti.

ARREGLOS FUNEBRES

La práctica usual para entierros católicos es un servicio

velatorio en una funeraria, una Misa Fúnebre en la iglesia

parroquial, el entierro del cuerpo o restos en un cementerio

(preferiblemente un cementerio católico) ... hablar con uno de

los sacerdotes para asistencia antes que una muerte ocurra y

hablar con un director acreditado de funeraria acerca de

arreglos por adelantado ... los restos (las cenizas) deben

15 MINUTOS DE MEDITACION Un estudio de 8 semanas de 40 sujetos por la Universidad de Groningen

encontró que aquellos que practicaban 15 minutos de meditación por

día durante 2 semanas no consecutivas se sentían más alertas, atentos,

menos estresados y menos propensos a reaccionar negativamente. Los

15 minutos de meditación se asociaron con efectos similares a un día de

FELICITACIONES DEACON VICTOR DE WESBEE

El domingo 28 de junio, el obispo Colacicco ordenó al

reverendo Sr. Wesbee Victor diácono. El Catecismo enseña:

"En un nivel inferior de la jerarquía se encuentran diáconos,

que reciben la imposición de manos" no al sacerdocio, sino al

ministerio "". 53 Ahora es un diácono marcado para siempre

con una impronta (" carácter ") en su alma que no puede ser

removida y que los configura para Cristo el siervo de todos.

Occidente, es que un diácono se dedica a los diversos

. Cada día antes de retirarse a la cama, haga un examen de

conciencia y acto de contrición. La contrición incluye tanto el

odio como la tristeza por el pecado junto con la determinación

de evitar el pecado y hacer penitencia por el pecado. La

contrición perfecta se basa en la comprensión de que el pecado

se opone a la bondad infinita de Dios, se basa en la voluntad, se

extiende a todos los pecados mortales y se acompaña de la

convicción de que el pecado mortal es lo peor posible contra

Dios. La contrición perfecta es un acto de amor a Dios, dado por

Dios al pecador, que justifica al pecador, incluso antes de que el
