13th Sunday Ordinary Time 28 June 2020 Year A Readings: 2 Kings 4:8-12, 14-17; Romans 6:3-4, 8-11; Matthew 10: 37-42 Patient Trust Above all, trust in the slow work of God. We are quite naturally impatient in everything to reach the end without delay. We should like to skip the intermediate stages. We are impatient of being on the way to something unknown, something new. And yet it is the law of all progress that it is made by passing through some stages of instability— and that it may take a very long time. And so I think it is with you; your ideas mature gradually—let them grow, let them shape themselves, without undue haste. Don’t try to force them on, as though you could be today what time (that is to say, grace and circumstances acting on your own good will) will make of you tomorrow Only God could say what this new spirit gradually forming within you will be. Give Our Lord the benefit of believing that his hand is leading you, and accept the anxiety of feeling yourself in suspense and incomplete This Sunday we gather as a Parish for a Mass of Thanksgiving in which we can reconnect, give thanks and give support to those who are suffering as a result of the Covid-19 Shutdown. Readings: 2 Kings 4:8-12, 14-17; Romans 6:3-4, 8-11; Matthew 10: 37-42

Patient Trust

Above all, trust in the slow work of God.

We are quite naturally impatient in everything to reach the end without delay.

Remain calm: extra terrestrial bodies have not taken over St Peter and Paul’s church,

neither are these special lock boxes to store Peter’s keys to the kingdom in time for

his Feast day! They are a cause for celebration for at last we have heaters that

warm us! After a bit of hard work and lots of research the

parish purchased a new heating system.

Thank you all for enabling this to happen through your

donations and to those who have shivered for some

time…. for your patience. Also a big thank you to Adam

Wysocki and his team from Cool Cat Refrigeration for

offering a great price and doing the connection free of

charge. Guaranteed a warm place to be now so come

along, sit, pray, be, both during the week and to mass on the weekends.

For the next few weeks Masses in our Parish will be as follows:

Sunday 10.30am Mass St Peter & Paul’s

After that there will be a reassessment of our needs

Marushka Caldeiro

Parting is always difficult, after you have worked and ministered with someone over

a period of time and enjoyed her company, energy, insights, generosity,

professionalism, commitment of time and love of people. When her focus has been

totally for the betterment of people’s lives and a richer, renewed, inclusive Parish

community – in the face of many challenges and difficulties.

I am talking about Marushka Caldeiro.

Marushka over the past 16 months has been a most-valued member of the

Leadership Formation Team. However, due to other pressing commitments she has

decided to step down from this role. Thank you so much Marushka for everything.

Blessings on the Caldeiro Family for sharing Marushka with our community, the

It is with sadness but also deep appreciation that the Leadership Formation Team have

accepted the resignation of Carol Burns as Parish Secretary. Carol has been the 'go to'

person, problem solver, information provider, money counter, and banker and financial

decision enactor, admin person and more for the past eight years. Equally importantly

Carol has been a friend and someone who was there to talk to and provide advice on the

workings of the parish. Carol has also been a guide to generations of children on

sacramental programmes and supported our children's’ worship programmes.

Carol hopes to spend more time with her elderly parents. The Leadership Formation Team

and our whole parish wish her well and many blessings for the next part of her journey.

St Benedict’s

First Communion

The previously organised dates for First Communion will go ahead.

Those dates are two group sessions on 16 and 30 August 2020 and

the ceremony (and after-match function) on 6 September 2020.

Confirmation

The new dates for Confirmation are a first group session on Sunday 18 October 2020,

a second group session on Sunday 25 October 2020 and the Confirmation ceremony

on 1 November 2020.

Our New Parish Website

We have a new website. We are very grateful in the early stages to John Tulloch,

Louise Yarrall, Hyacinth Cruz, & Shane Dinan but mostly to Mike Walczak, the CEO of

Circini who did most of the work and managed the process.

Thanks also to Ellen Giltrap for her final preparations and hopefully on going updates.

You can check it out the new website here . It is a "shop front" we can be proud of

and will serve not only our parishioners but visitors and new arrivals.

St Peter & Paul’s & St Andrew’s

28th June: 2nd Meeting/ Practise 2pm at St Peter and Pauls Church for children.

Parents join at 3pm

4th July: 1st Reconciliation 2pm at SS Peters & Pauls.

We will also be in contact with you all as there may be opportunities after school to

also catch up with children who may not feel quite ready for the sacrament of

reconciliation.

Our amazing young people had their third

Reconciliation Programme Session last

Sunday.

The focus was on God’s love for each of us

and how this love helps us love others. After

hearing about the Good Shepherd who looks

after lost and scared sheep and colouring a

sheet in, everyone then designed two hearts.

The big one was God and the smaller one the

child. Everyone had a great time. The next

meeting for participants is Sunday 2pm at

Johnsonville church hall. This will be followed

by a parents and children meeting at 3pm

The Coast to Coast Rosary for Life and Faith will be held this year

on Saturday 15th August at 3 pm. Please help lead or join a group in your parish or community. For more information, please go

Recent guidelines from the Bishops for our liturgical practices remain in place for the meantime:

Holy Communion - The faithful are to receive Holy Communion in the hand only,

and not from the chalice. These practices are not in keeping with present hygiene

advice. Sign of Peace - The exchange of peace can be by spoken word, by a gesture such as

bowing, or by a pause for silent prayer for peace. At this stage people should not feel obliged to shake hands.

Holy Water Fonts - are to remain without Holy Water.

These guidelines will be re-evaluated as further health advice is given, or in one month’s time.

95th birthday.

Fr Des Darby presided at

the Mass, and 2 classes of

children from St Brigid’s

were also there. We

enjoyed food and

fellowship afterwards.

Last Tuesday, we had our first liturgy at

the church for our St Brigids children since lockdown. The Theme was

Welcome Back and the Liturgy was lead by myself -Sio and Pat Collier. I met with

the children at school and helped then

plan the Liturgy and write prayers the week before. It was such a delight to

have the children from Room 6 and Room 9 of St Brigids join us for the

Liturgy and welcome them back after a long time away. Some of the children are

currently preparing for their first

reconciliation programme and so we also talked about what good choices are and how they help us to grow in love with God and with others.

It is always a privilege to have the children participate in the liturgy and its great to make it relevant to what they are learning at school and connect them in with the

parish. A big thank you to Pat and the parishioners for being there and supporting

What is the Future for Little Churches?

Little Churches may also be an opportunity for a new model in our Parish. We would

like them to be not only centers of formation and growth but truly Little Church. These group have the potential to be the Church in microcosm. Being Catholic is

more than merely attending “Church” weekly, it is more that participating in the Sacrament.

Sunday 5th July after 10.30am Mass at SS Peter & Paul’s you are invited to a

meeting of all the Little Church Participants and anyone who is interested in making these little groups true microcosms of Church in all its aspects.

Engaged Encounter is a weekend experience for couples intending to be
