THE TABLE NEEDS VOLUNTEERS: The Table is not an organization in a traditional sense as there are no officers, no by-laws and no meetings. It is a group of people who believe that no one in Birmingham should have to go hungry or eat out of the garbage. We provide meals that are prepared and served with love. We know that those who are suffering the pain of homelessness need to feel a sense of hope. During the past nine months we have touched many hearts and the number of hungry people participating in The Table continues to grow. We are truly making a difference. We can’t stop now but we need your help! Please consider volunteering in August. For information on how to get involved please call the church office. JOIN YOUR FELLOW PARISHIONERS for the Fifth of a 6 part program presented by Michael Cumbie this Wednesday August 9th from 7:00 – 8:30. This Wednesday’s topic will be “Heaven, Hell and Purgatory!” BIRMINGHAM CURSILLO Men’s Cursillo Weekend is September 7th-10th. Women’s Cursillo Weekend is October 26th-29th. Both at Sacred Heart Monastery in Cullman. If you are wanting to learn more about Cursillo (“3 Days with Christ”), or are looking for that spiritual renewal in your life, then call the church office. RETROUVAILLE: (A weekend for couples) If your marriage has grown cold and uncaring, Retrouvaille may be the program to help. This is a highly successful program that teaches couples to communicate in positive and non threatening ways. You can achieve the marriage you want to have. We know of couples that have been separated or divorced, who were able to get back together after attending a Retrouvaille week-end. The Retrouvaille program is Catholic in origin but is always open to couples of all faith traditions. The next week-end in Birmingham, AL will be Sept. 8th – 10th. For more confidential information, or to register, or just talk to a couple experienced in the program, please call the church office. Remember, the best gift a couple can give their children is to Love each other.

FATHER JAMES COYLE: Two events Friday Aug. 11th will mark 85th anniversary of Fr. Coyle’s death. The Father Coyle Memorial Project Committee is sponsoring a ceremony at Father Coyle’s grave site at Elmwood Cemetery on the morning of Friday, August 11th to promote unity and reconciliation. It will be held at 10:30 a.m. preceding the Mass at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Ministers and persons of all faiths are invited to participate. The 12:10 pm Mass on Friday, August 11th will be a Memorial Mass honoring the life of Father James Edwin Coyle. Fr. Coyle served as Pastor of St. Paul’s Cathedral from 1904 until his tragic assassination on the front porch of the old parish rectory August 11, 1921. He was a heroic defender of the Catholic faith during a time of public anti-Catholic persecution in Birmingham. He was only 48 when he died. Parishioners and the general public are invited to this Mass to commemorate the memory of this courageous, faithful Irish-born priest.

MAGNIFICAT, a Ministry to Catholic Women will hold their August Breakfast on Saturday August 26th at St. Elias Maronite Rite Catholic Church. The guest speaker will be Rebecca Conaty. Tickets will be available from July 22 – August 24 for $7.00. No tickets will be sold at the door. For more information please see the pamphlet on the bulletin board or call the church office.

TO ALL ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH ORGANIZATIONS Due to the every escalating amount of copies being made we need your help in keeping our cost of paper and copy usage to a minimum. While each organization is vital to the support of St. Patrick and while we know each organization, at times, needs to make copies, we are asking that every one be as frugal as needs permit. Thank you for your help. Fr. Gray Bean.

SINCERE THANKS to Debbie Brasher, Shirley Goolsby, Nicole Ozbolt, Cecilia Richerzhagen, and Maria Whitaker for their assistance July 22 in preparing a wonderful breakfast for SPIRIT Service Mission 2006 participants to begin our weeklong mission. You helped nourish our bodies and our hearts to prepare for a wonderful week!

SPIRIT SERVICE MISSION 2006 was a wonderful success! Our 13 SPIRIT Youth and Adults returned home safely late last Saturday. We served the Navajo Nation in many ways, we enjoyed each other's presence, and the weather was wonderful (even cooler than here at home!). Look soon for a full report -- and pictures -- on SPIRIT's website. We are truly grateful to all who helped make SPIRIT Service Mission 2006 possible.
