The President’s MessageDear Members and Friends,

I greet you all with joy and gratitude as we move over from yetanother eventful and glorious year for the YMCA. I consider itGod’s grace that I could sit in the chair, as the President of theYoung Men’s Christian Association Thrissur. Men with a mightyheart and an indomitable spirit gave their all to build a strongfoundation to ensure that this organization would stand the testof time. At this time I fondly pay my respects to all theMembers of the YMCA who departed from us during this reporting year.

As I reach the end of my term as the President of this esteemed organization, I fondlylook back at the past one year in office. There have been challenges and there havebeen opportunities as well. In all, I am extremely thankful to the Lord Almighty forenabling me to face each situation with confidence.

The YMCA being one big versatile team with a common mission, I am deeply thankful tothe Members of the Board for their support and guidance during the past year. I am alsohappy that the work of our International Convention and Youth Centre at Kannara isprogressing well. I express my profound gratitude to Sri. Jose Chiriankandath, a doyenof one of the most reputed business families of Thrissur and also our member, forsponsoring the main hall at our Convention Centre. The hall shall henceforth be calledC.J.Palu Memorial Hall in honour of his late father.

During the past year we had initiated many new social projects, importantly the TribalEducation Project and the Education Scholarship Project for Children with HIV/AIDS. Ithank the Chairmen and the Members of our different Standing Committees for theirenthusiastic efforts in conducting the different programs of our YMCA. I also thank theChief Guests, guests, participants, volunteers and delegates of our various programs. Aspecial word of thanks goes to the various sponsors and facilitators of our programs. Iam also happy to say that this year we have embarked on a new path by strengtheningInternational relations. We hope to develop volunteer and exchange programs with theYMCAs of Germany and the YMCA of Ajman has partnered with us for the TribalEducation Project.

In conclusion, let me share a thought with you. The world that we live in has not yettorn down all the narrow walls of segregation. The world that we live in has not yetgiven meaning and dignity to womanhood. The world that we live in, still ignores thecries of the bonded and oppressed sub-altern. When you are a member of the YMCA youare part of a global family of men, women and children who strive to give meaning tothe existence of human beings. We may be an Indian national but we are also globalcitizens; we may be of a particular religious persuasion but our vision is ecumenical; wemay have different ways of life but we are all united in one mission.

Thank you all once again.

Sd/-Dr. Justin George
