l Dear Parents and Carers,
Today I am excited to accompany our 2019 Student Leaders to ‘Halogen
Young Leaders Day’ conference in Sydney. I am sure this will be an
inspirational day for them, both personally and as leaders of our school.
Watch out for photos next week.
EARLY AND LATE ARRIVALS – SLIP NEEDED
We are continually reviewing our procedures to ensure that our students are
kept safe and that we comply with departmental policy. To this end,
parents need to obtain a ‘late arrival/early leave’ slip from the office before
their child is delivered to or collected from their classroom.
If you are bringing your child to school significantly late, please accompany
them to the office.
If you are collecting your child early, please obtain an ‘early leave slip’ from
the office prior to going to your child’s class as you will need to give the slip
to the teacher before your child leaves the classroom.
EARLY ARRIVAL at SCHOOL
We love that our students love coming to school but lately there has been a
growing number of children arriving at school close to 8:00am on days
where no extra curricular activities, such as Dance Troupe, are offered.
Teachers do not commence duty until 8:30am, which means there is a
period where no supervision is provided. If your child does not need to arrive
early please ensure that their arrival time is 8:30am or later. We are fortunate
that our OOSH facility provides before and after school care, which may be
useful if your child needs to arrive early.
CLASS ON-LINE SUBSCRIPTIONS AND VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS
This week we will be sending home invoices for ‘user-pay’ online
subscriptions (such as Reading Eggs) and other teaching resources (such as
the school magazine) that support your child’s learning in class. The
teachers reviewed these subscriptions to ensure that they are educationally
valuable and the cost is kept to a reasonable level. Students will be able to
access their subscriptions once the subscription fees have been paid.
Accompanying the statement is a request for voluntary contributions. May I
encourage everyone to consider making this contribution as it assists us to
provide quality resources and programs for our students, particularly in
numeracy, reading and STEM as well as purchasing additional technology.
SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOL TEST
Best wishes to our students who will be sitting the Selective High School test
at Smith’s Hill High School this Thursday. Please see the reminder information
included in this newsletter.

l FIGTREE MASTER CLASSES OPPORTUNITIES
Our students have been fortunate to be offered the opportunity to attend
‘master classes’ at Figtree High School. We have included a few photos of
the Visual Arts lessons that have occurred over the past three weeks. I’m
sure you’ll be impressed by the beautiful art work that was produced. The
next three-week program focuses on music.
THE NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST BULLYING AND VIOLENCE (NDA)
will be celebrated this Friday. Our school will join over 5600 schools across
the nation to send a powerful message that bullying and violence is NEVER
OK. In support of the NDA 2019, the Office of the eSafety Commissioner has
launched new virtual classrooms as this year’s focus is digital resilience.
Students will be involved in classroom and Stage activities as they focus on
this year’s message: ‘Bullying. No Way! Take action every day.’
MONITORING SOCIAL MEDIA and KEEPING OUR CHILDREN SAFE
We encourage parents to be diligent and closely monitor your child’s use
of the Internet whilst they are using devices to ensure that only appropriate
sites are being accessed. This is an opportune time to have a conversation
with your child about what is appropriate and what to do if they are shown
or accidentally come across inappropriate sites. We have included some
information and helpful sites to assist with this.
We also encourage the use of ‘Kiddle’. Kiddle is a safe web, image and
video search engine for children.
Best wishes for a wonderful week.
Warm regards,
Dee
