Our MissionThe American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA) exists to eliminate brain tumorsthrough research and to meet the needs of brain tumor patients and their families.

ABTA is at the forefront of initiatives that will forward our mission. We fund basic, translational, and clinical research; we encourage talented investigators, early in theircareers, to study neuro-oncology; we partner with professional organizations to rec-ognize outstanding researchers; and we collaborate with other funding organizationsto award grants for collaborative research projects between institutions.

GENERAL INFORMAT ION2 |

Basic Research FellowshipsThe intent of this Fellowship program is to encourage talented scientists early in their careers to enter, orremain in, the field of brain tumor research. These awards help ensure a continuum of dedicated, well-trained brain tumor researchers. ABTA Basic Research Fellowships are $80,000 awards payable over atwo-year period.

Criteria for selection include the caliber of the applicant, training program, and proposed research.

Translational and Small Project GrantsThe intent of our Grants’ Program is to facilitate bringing potentially important research studies from thelaboratory to the patient — bench to bedside. These are $50,000 one-year awards.

Criteria for selection include the therapeutic potential of the proposed research and the quality of the lab-oratory program and applicant.

Fellowship & Grant ApplicationsEligible Fellowship and Grant applicants are post-doctorates who intend to pursue a career in neuro-oncology.

Qualifed applications for the Fellowships and Grants are reviewed by members of the Association’s dis-tinguished Scientific Advisory Council. Award determinations are made by the ABTA Board of Directorsbased upon the Advisors’ recommendations.

Applications are available from the ABTA office. The deadline for completed applications is January 7, 2008.

Medical Student Summer FellowshipsMedical Student Summer Fellowships are intended to plant the seeds of neuro-oncology interest in bright, talented students. Mentors are invited to select appropriate students for these $2,500 awards. Additionally, the most outstanding student report receives the Lucien J. Rubinstein Memorial Award that carries an addi-tional $1,000 plus distinction.
