Our key mobile hardware attributes

Your business operations require mobile computers that deliver the right combination of attributes

Flexibility: Breadth of expansion, display, keyboard, radio and scanning options

Integration: Utilization of open standards such as 802.11b, Bluetooth, GSM/GPRS, CDMA/1xRTT, Windows CE .NET, SNMP and Intel X-Scale

Ruggedness: Designed to stand up to harsh environments - both indoors and outdoors and able to withstand multiple drops to concrete, extreme shock and vibration, as well as cold and/or wet conditions

Ergonomics: Lightweight, well balanced with logical control layouts and crisp, bright, easy to read displays

Resulting in lower TCO and ease of integration with your enterprise IT systems

Page 12: 1 Psion Teklogix Corporate Overview 22 September 2004 Yin Min.

12

Force-fitting personal devices (e.g. PDA) into mission- critical areas of your business can be a costly mistake

* VDC “Total Cost of Ownership Report 2003”

Ruggedness and durability The impact on TCO (Total Cost of Ownership)

TCO is more than initial purchase price - includes ongoing support costs, and direct and indirect opportunity costs

According to the VDC*:

Rugged devices feature better warranties, longer replacement cycles (5 yrs vs. 3 yrs), and much lower failure rates (4:1 commercial to rugged)

The TCO of a rugged device is up to 32% lower than a standard “commercial” mobile computer over a 5 year period

United Utilities (U.K.) is a water, gas and electricity metering company with 2.5 million customers.

United Utilities

SOLUTION: United Utilities chose Psion Teklogix’ durable and easy-to-use netpad to run its field operative data capture and retrieval software.

BENEFIT/VALUE: United Utilities’ field staff can now see their workload for the day, and return, in real-time, the relevant data back to the asset management system in the back office. The resulting real-time communication and increased data accuracy has increased overall productivity.

We’ve used other devices in other

areas of our business, and we

wanted to get away from the

keyboard-style products. Our

operatives are highly qualified

engineers, not data-entry clerks.

We want to make their job as

easy as possible. The Psion

Teklogix netpad is easy for the

operative to view and understand.

PROBLEM/CHALLENGE: United Utilities needed to increase overall productivity through higher accuracy of data, timely access to information in the field, and ease of documentation. Steve Bradwell,

IT Strategy Manager

BENEFIT/VALUE: The Psion Teklogix solution has enabled USA TODAY workers to accurately track, adjust and forecast inventories, in addition to reduce sell-outs, increase sales, and target additional locations for distribution.

The Psion Teklogix/RouteMax

Menlo Worldwide Logistics is a is a global, full-service contract logistics management company.

Menlo Worldwide

BENEFIT/VALUE: The Psion Teklogix solution helped Menlo to significantly increase its warehouse productivity, including a considerable increase in inventory accuracy. The result was that Menlo’s warehouse personnel were able to provide its customers with the high caliber of service that the organization is committed to delivering.

Psion Teklogix is sensitive to our needs. They designed an easy-to-use keyboard for warehouse personnel, including the ability to adjust font size. The hand-helds are exceptionally sturdy — they tend to get abused in warehouse situations. Even if refurbishing of equipment is required, turn-around time is far better than with other vendors.

PROBLEM/CHALLENGE: Menlo had a critical need to increase overall efficiency in its warehouse management operations. It needed a solution that provided long-distance scanning, user-friendly and ergonomic computers able to fully integrate with its existing warehouse management system.

Curt Wolfer, Technical Services Manager

SOLUTION: Menlo chose Psion Teklogix’ durable hand-held and vehicle-mount computers, in combination with its wireless gateways and controllers, to create a solution that allowed its workers to eliminate manual data entry and interface with its warehouse management system application.

Casalini is an Italian confectionery distributor.

Casalini

SOLUTION: Casalini chose the Psion Teklogix netBook, a light-weight, easy to use mobile computer, in combination with a software application developed by Gulliver, for its sales agents to create electronic sales orders.

BENEFIT/VALUE: Casalini’s sales agents are now able to create electronic sales orders and send them instantly, and securely, to its sales management system, eliminating a cumbersome and error-prone manual process. Faster turnaround times and greater accuracy of deliveries and invoicing has resulted in an overall increase in sales agent productivity. Casalini’s sales agents are now able to offer a higher quality of face-to-face customer service, and thus create stronger relationships with clients.

When the netBook was

introduced even agents who

have been working for many

years with pens and paper

had no difficulty in using it.

The agents immediately

Fraport AG owns and operates Frankfurt Airport.

Fraport

BENEFIT/VALUE: Fraport service technicians can now access and process their work instructions faster than before. Using the integrated system, service technicians now perform efficient, error-free data collection, optimizing processes while meeting federal law requirements. In addition, supervisors can now get a real-time snapshot of all technical services in progress and access repair status information and inspection reports.

This mobile solution has increased the quality and safety of our data. The entire documentation of our service processes is now secure.

PROBLEM/CHALLENGE: As airport manager, Fraport AG is required by law to regularly inspect the primary technical components at the airport, to service or repair them, and to provide a record of proof. SOLUTION: Volkswagen chose Psion Teklogix and its solution that included over 1000 rugged hand-held and vehicle-mount radio frequency data collection terminals, in addition to its TekRF interface software.

BENEFIT/VALUE: The Psion Teklogix solution allows for real-time data communications and has enabled Volkswagen to dramatically enhance accuracy and overall productivity across all inventory, logistics and transportation operations.

With many local and distributed

warehousing operations all

across Germany it is increasingly

important that the centralised IT

system can determine where any

part is at any time. The Psion

Teklogix TekRF wireless solution

meets these needs perfectly.PROBLEM/CHALLENGE: Volkswagen needed a system that would provide its mobile users simple and efficient, real-time online connectivity with the centralized SAP® R/3 system, thereby extending the functionality of the SAP® Supply Chain Management solution deployed across its German distribution centers.

The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) administers California’s water resources and flood control programs for 32 million people.

California Department of Water Resources

SOLUTION: DWR installed Psion Teklogix’ 9150T wireless gateway and TekRF system, and armed its employees with 7030 rugged hand-held terminals, easily integrating with DWR’s SAP® R/3 materials management database.

BENEFIT/VALUE: DWR workers can now bar-code and scan items, and perform a number of material management processes such as receiving, stock transfers, picking and cycle counting. They can now process two to three times the amount of material they had been able to process previously. Workers are now reporting a significant increase in their productivity. As well, deliveries can be tagged, classified and logged in less than half the time it used to take, resulting in greater operational efficiency.

The reduction of paper-based errors in the warehouse resulted in a decrease in costs the very first month…(TekRF®) monitoring and systems administration are easily performed in-house, saving us both time and money.

PROBLEM/CHALLENGE: DWR’s paper-based inventory system was time-consuming, and filled with inventory inaccuracies, and did not provide real-time visibility to the supplies housed in each warehouse. DWR needed a solution that improved its operational efficiency and the productivity of its workforce.

What is 802.IQ?

An optimized (Teklogix) protocol that replaces TCP/IP for the wireless network

TCP/IP is still used on the wired portion of the network (Ethernet or token ring)

Conversion of protocol takes place at the access point

Totally transparent to the client device – the application software requires no changes
