Happy Mother’s Day
Dear Members and Friends, April was a busy month.
Cultural Exchange. UFS students and their professor of German studies vis-ited us. We had an Easter Parade. SPIFF International Ball was fun for all who attended and the Pinellas Park Chamber of Com-merce Mixer was a success with the best turn-out ever. The roof was fixed and fans installed. The grease trap from the kitchen was un-clogged. Thank you David Loucks for co-ordinating the re-pairs. The parking lot will be resealed in the near future. Oktoberfest 2015 planning is on the way. Cultural Exchange Submitted by Maria Schneider
Birit Nessmann arranged for Professor Peter Funke from USF and his German class to visit our club prior to their trip to Germany in May. Maria Schneider and Helmut Drews shared with the students their jour-ney which ended in Florida. Maria was born in Transylva-nia, from there her journey took her to Austria, Canada, Ohio, and finally Michigan. Her family worked in the tobacco harvest for nine seasons, and did other seasonal work. She attended school in Austria, and in Ontario and then college in
Ohio. She was a High School Ger-man l anguage teacher for many years. Helmut was born in Poland on the Russian border. From there his family traveled to E a s t - G e r m a n y
where he was a baker’s apprentice. The family was able to es-cape from Communist East Germany into the west, find his way to a distant relative, and eventually immigrate to the USA, Michigan, from where he retired to Florida twenty years ago. The students were fascinated with the information and had many questions. Students enjoyed samples of German food prepared by Ilse and Alma, and Marion was there to help with bever-ages. The students took information about our club with them, and said they would be delighted to come back after their trip to Germany and share their impressions.
Far right Birgit Ness-mann who was instru-mental in arranging the visit. Next to her is Professor Peter Funke and eighteen of his students who are studying German at USF and will be visiting Germany in May.

Hello Members and Hello Friends,
I am so glad our ill and passing list has shrunk down to nothing. Yes our friend and member for many years Hansi Wil-son has passed. Our Sympathy is going out to her family. We did not get any information about here burial, sorry about that. I have spoken with Fred Myer the owner of our passed band: “Band called Fred”. Fred is doing al-right. Some days are better than oth-ers. Also I stay in contact with Regina Waltenspiel. Regina is missing the club quite a lot. Maybe some person living in Town Shores, Gulfport could bring her to the Saturday night dance. That would just be wonderful. That’s it for this month. I wish all of you a healthy spring and I will see you on Saturday night at the Club. ___ Greetings Members and Friends,
I have been at the last Heritage Day meeting in Casselberry. Every one there agreed that the music left some-thing to be desired. Yes the music should have been more according to the theme of the festival. It is not de-cided yet who will play next year, yet the place will be the same. It was also encouraged to participate in the Heimat Abend the evening before. Overall we had a good report. As al-ways a few wrinkles have to be ironed out. The UGASF staff is thanking all participants and wishes that all will come back next year.
Your UGASF Delegate Ilse
Just wanted to say Thank you to Alma Smith, she is always there when needed the most. Like tonight while we hosted the mixer with the Pinellas Park Chamber of Commerce. She is “eine gute Küchenfee”!
Also a Thank you to the person taking care of the of the greeneries around the flagpoles and the flowers at the front en-trance.

SPIFFS International Ball 2015
The Ball was held at the Gulfport Casino. Anne Boortz was recognized as the Person of the Year and George White as the Am-bassador. Entertainment was provided by the Dominican Republic. The food was deli-cious. The Band inspired the guests to dance. There was a lot of laughter and smiles and everyone seemed to have en-joyed themselves.
