• ‘People like me are aware of their so-called genius at eight, nine, ten… I always wondered “Why has nobody discovered me? In school, didn’t they see that I’m more clever than anyone in this school? That the teachers are stupid, too? That all they had was information I didn’t need.” It was obvious to me. Why didn’t they train me; put me into art school? I was different, why didn’t anyone notice me?

"Zone of proximal development" (ZPD) is Vygotsky’s term for the range
of tasks that are too difficult for the child to master alone but that can be learned with guidance and assistance of adults or more-skilled children. The lower limit of ZPD is the level of skill
reached by the child working independently. The upper limit is the level of additional responsibility the
child can accept with the assistance of an able instructor.
His theory of cognitive development can be used as a tool in the early childhood
classroom. According to Piaget, children developed
best in a classroom with interaction.
