10 Powerful Benefits of Change:

Why Embrace It “If you do not create change, change will create you.” ~Unknown

We are often resistant to change, and we don’t realize that change itself is constant.

People usually avoid changes and prefer to stay in their comfort zones, but once you get the courage and

take the first step to change, your life will become much better. Below are just few benefits of change:

1. Personal Growth You grow and learn new things every time something changes. You learn lessons even from changes that did not lead you to where you wanted to be. 2. Flexibility Frequent changes make you easily adapt to new situations, new environments, and new people. As a result you do not freak out when something unexpectedly shifts. 3. Improvements We all have things in our lives we’d like to improve. All of us know that nothing will improve by itself. We need to do things differently to make that happen. Without change, there’d be no improvements. 4. Life values From time to time changes make you re-evaluate your life and look at certain things from a different perspective. Depending on what the change is, it may also reinforce your life values. 5. The Snowball Effect Often we give up because we cannot accomplish the difficult task of making a huge and immediate change. That is when small changes become extremely valuable. One shift at a time, small changes will eventually lead you to the desired big one.

6. Strength Not all changes lead you to pleasant periods of life. Unfortunately we do not live in fairy tale and sad things happen, too. Overcoming the tough period will make you stronger. 7. Progress Changes trigger progress. Things move forward and develop because of the them. 8. Opportunities One never knows what each change may bring. When you turn from your usual path there will be plenty of different opportunities waiting for you. Changes will bring new choices for happiness and fulfillment. 9. New Beginnings Each change is a turning page. It is about closing one chapter and opening another one. Changes bring new beginnings and excitement to life. 10. Routine Remember the movie Stranger than Fiction? The main character Harold Crick does the same things in exactly same time for years. He leads a completely dull, extremely predictable, and uninteresting life. That is how your life would be without changes.

So next time you get the temptation to avoid or resist the change, aim instead to initiate the ones that will

lead you to where you want be. And remember—if there were no change, there would be no butterflies!

Why change is so difficult

and 9 ways to make it easier Let’s face it…change is hard. It really is. Because of that, most of us tend to shy away from it.

Change is a crucial part of productivity, though. If you lack the ability to adapt and grow, your

productivity will stall, stagnate, and finally die.

There are two main reasons why we don’t change as often as we should:

1. Lack of knowledge.

We simply don’t realize that we need to

change.

2. Lack of willpower.

We know we need to change, but we just

don’t have the motivation to do it.

Why Change is So Difficult?

Here are the reason

1. We often try to change too much to quickly.

Biting off more than we can chew may be the single biggest contributor to resistance to change.

Instantaneously trying to go from no change to massive change can quickly send us into a state of shock.

Shock often leads to paralysis, and paralysis is the opposite of movement (i.e. change).

The remedy: Make small changes instead. If your goal is to make a huge change, break it down into smaller

changes and make those one at a time. Small success leads to more success, which leads to momentum.

Momentum propels you toward large, lasting change.

2. We become discouraged after past failures.

Because change is difficult, we sometimes fail. What we hoped was going to be a big change fizzles out after

only a small initial change. What we hoped was going to be a lasting change turns into a quick, passing phase.

Past failure tends to translate into present discouragement.

The remedy: Instead of reacting to past failures by becoming discouraged, proactively turn past failures into

learning experiences. Go back and analyze your past approaches to change. Determine where in the process

Page 4: Januari 20141

you broke down and come up with a plan to conquer that step this time. As the Japanese say, “fall down

seven times, stand up eight.”

3. We fail to align our changes with our values and principles.

Change becomes exceedingly difficult when we try to do it in ways that violate our own standards. If our

values and principles say one thing and a proposed change says something different, we’ll have difficulty

making that change stick.

Why?

Because that scenario produces what psychologists refer to as “cognitive dissonance” It’s like trying to go

right and left at the same time or convince yourself that something is simultaneously all-black and all-white.

You can’t do that for very long without driving yourself nuts.

The remedy: If you find yourself in a dissonant state, spend some time doing 2 things: First, re-clarify what

your values and principles are. Make them concrete and nail them down in your conscious awareness.

Second, re-frame your proposed changes to better align with your values and principles.

This will allow for internal peace, which will ignite your ability to change.

4. It’s difficult to objectively assess our current status.

There are 2 reasons we don’t change: we don’t have the motivation to do it or we simply don’t know that we

need to do it in the first place.

Objectively evaluating oneself is extremely difficult. Though we might try to put our biases aside as we look

at ourselves, it’s nearly impossible to do. For this reason, as we assess our current situation, we may arrive at

the conclusion that no change is needed. And there may be no conclusion that’s further from the truth.

The remedy: The solution to this one requires a dose of humility, but it’s well worth it: If you can’t objectively

evaluate yourself, have someone else do it for you. If you need to know where you stand at work, ask your

boss for an objective opinion. If you need to know where you stand outside of work, ask a friend or a family

member. Yes, you might receive some uncomfortable feedback, but it’s far better to know that you need to

change than it is to need to change and not know.

5. We fear that the effort to change might not be worth it in the end.

What if we spend a huge amount of time and energy trying to change and then find out that the end result

isn’t even worth it? If you’ve ever had that happen to you, you are less likely to attempt change in the future.

The remedy: Fear of the unknown is natural to some degree. Wondering whether our time and effort will

actually be worth it in the end is a fairly justified concern…especially if we don’t have much time and energy

to begin with.

Don’t let this faze you, though. Not every change you make will be worth it. Many will be, but some won’t be.

Even if the end result isn’t all that you hoped it would be, you will have grown along the way. By going

through the process of change, you will have increased your ability to change.

The next time you need to change, the process will be more comfortable to you. And, in my book, that’s a

win.

6. Though we may know what the end goal of our proposed change is, we may not know what the

actual steps are to achieve it.

Sometimes we know where we want to go (and we passionately want to get there), but we have no

idea how to get there. In those situations, our desire to change quickly cools.

If I set out to drive but have no GPS, no map, no phone, no road signs, and no compass, I’d probably decide

to cancel the trip. Could I accidentally succeed in finding it? Possibly…but not likely. It’d be far easier to forget

the trip in the first place.

The remedy: Do your homework, your due diligence, your research before you ever attempt to begin a

change. It’s great to know where you’re going, but it’s greater to know how to get there. Don’t blindly set out

to change your life. Have a plan before you begin.

And consider allying yourself with people who’ve already made the change you want to make. They know the

lay of the land. Let them be your guides.

7. We don’t have the needed resources to make the change.

If your goal is to start your own business, but you have no capital to do it with, you’re up a creek. There are

certain changes in life that require actual resources. Not having those resources makes those changes very

difficult.

The remedy: Bootstrap it until you do have the resources. Dig deep into the well of creativity.

There’s almost always more than one way to do something. If at first you can’t see another way, look again.

And again. And again until a new solution becomes clear.

If the only way to start a business was to finance it oneself, few businesses would ever get started. Cue the

venture capital (i.e. “Plan B”). If the change you’re trying to make is worth making, keep trying until you find a

way. Period.

8. We’re afraid of relapsing once we make the change.

We set out to make a lasting change, but we’re afraid we don’t have the stick-to-it-ive-ness to make it last.

When we don’t think we can stay the course, we struggle to change.

The remedy: Accept the fact that you’ll probably relapse once in awhile. And then realize that it’s not the end

of the world.

If your current morning rise time is 7:00am and your goal is 5:00am, there will probably be an occasional day

when you slip back to 7:00.

Does an imperfect record signal total failure, though? Absolutely not.

What’s important in change is overall forward progress. Two steps forward for every one backward is

successful change.

Don’t let the prospect of an occasional slip-up keep you from making a change.

9. We’re not convinced we need to change in the first place.

If someone suggests that we need to change, but we’re not totally convinced, the likelihood of us changing is

slim to none.

The remedy: Find other people who you would assess as having needed to make the same change a long

time ago, but who chose not to. See how their refusal to make the change has played out in their lives. If it’s

been detrimental, consider being wise and making the change in your own life.

Spare yourself the negative consequences of not changing.

There’s some truth to Lily Leung’s advice: “When in doubt, choose change.”

The Bottom Line

The world around you changes constantly…whether or not you choose to change with it.

If you want to be truly productive, though, you’ll embrace flexibility and change, learning to

harness their powers for good.

How to Make a New You

1. Only change, if you're ready for

change. When you feel it's time for a

new you, that's when change can

proceed.

2. However if you're skeptical about

becoming something way out of your

comfort zone, then staying as you are is

perfectly fine. Although you don't need

a 101 reasons to change, you just need

to know from your heart that your

ready. And once your ready, the course

will run a lot more smoothly, as your

determination will be almost faultless.

3. Change is never easy, especially when

it's brought from ourselves. But

working steady and calm will definitely

make things easier. You must also learn,

that change does not happen over

night. It is a gradual course, and from

past experience the best way to

improve.

4. Be aware of your surroundings. It's easy

to forget about our current lifestyle and

those who live amongst us when we're in

the change process. You need to keep

your loved ones close, no matter how

much you are changing. It's always best

to have them before the change, during

the change and after the change. You

don't have to change them, just because

your changing your appearance and

personality. It's about certainty and

confidence. You need to be certain and

confident that your change will all go to

plan.

5. Make a list of your chosen desires-

Start by writing a list on things you'd

like to expect from your change. Would

you like to lose weight? or have a new

hair style? Are you simply bored of your

dress sense and are willing to save up

for a new wardrobe? Or are you so tired

of the mistakes and upsets you've

caused that the only way to fix them is if

you become a better person? Once your

list is complete (big or small) you can

begin research.

6. Research the choices on your list- Find

out what hairstyles suit your face

shape, What foundations look best with

your skin tone. Create a fitness schedule

and book into your local gym. Find out

what's hot in fashion and how to

accessorize outfits. Visit online clothing

stores and get a taste of what's out

there on the high street. Find an idol

who you can focus on to be like when

your change is over. Once you've

completed all your research you can

begin with the deadlines.

Page 9: Januari 20141

7. Set deadlines- Have a date and time for

your goal change. Is there an upcoming

event that you want to change for next

month, Is it the summer holidays and

you want to be a new person when you

arrive back at school? Whatever it is,

have a goal date to reach. It'll make

everything more easier to organize.

Deadline other things as well. Set

yourself a week or so to lose two

pounds. Book in at the hairdressers a

week from your changed deadline so

you have time to tweak around with

your hair do.

8. Begin your change- Now that you've

planned, timed and researched means

you can begin with your change. This is

the part where most of your effort will

be needed and this is certainly the part

where you'll find yourself drifting from

friends. It's now you can start exercising

and eating the right foods, it's now that

you can visit your local hairdressers with

the color and cut you would like. It's

now that you can begin saving up for

your new wardrobe. It's basically the

time where everything gets stressful.

You'll find yourself feeling a little lonely

throughout the process, but stick it out

because once it's over it will be worth it.

9. You must try to remember to relax

always and to not let things come all at

once. As long as you do this step by step

then it should happen more naturally.

Research is your important part, you

should use the internet for your research

and magazines, they are the best for

appearance. If you want to change your

personality then it's best if you work on

that yourself

Page 10: Januari 20141

10. Coming to terms with the new you-

So your deadline has come, your

stood in front of the mirror and

your a whole new person right? Are

you better than your expectations or

worse? No matter what, through

any physical change your going to

have a picture in your head of the

person you expect to look like. Don't

be disappointed if that image

doesn't look back at you in the

mirror. It's how much you've

improved that counts. If you want a

big change, for a real shock then go

for the whole works. Lose a few

pounds (if you really need too) or

tone up your muscles to get a

slender figure. Have a new style, a

new hair color and cut and a whole

new makeup & skin regimen. You

should get the appearance change

out of the way first and work on

your personality later.

11. Personality change. Mentally- This is

going to be the hardest part of

change, because when people do

change their personality it's hard for

them to stick to it. You may have

regretted something you've recently

done and grew tired of your childish

ways. It's easy when you know how.

But it takes further practice. Try to

keep emotions in check and don't

wear your heart on your sleeve.

Just be yourself, be quirky and fun

and be open to all minds. Anyone

can change, once they are sure of

what they want, and who they want

to be.

Page 11: Januari 20141

12. Finally- your personality is better, your

looks are better and you seem to be

enjoying the world much much more.

13. Stay positive and optimistic about the

future, be proud of where you are

today and love the world for its beauty

and natures. Always do the right thing,

don't harm your body in ways that you

shouldn't. Just keep strong, make your

family proud, your friends and yourself

and most of all be happy.

You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.

New Year's Eve Facts And Trivia:

Fun Things To Know About The Holiday

New Year’s Eve is one of the favorite celebration days for many people.

The impending New Year typically brings hope for a more prosperous and happy 365 days. There

are also some fun facts and trivia associated with the celebration.

The first New Year was celebrated 4,000 years by the ancient Babylonians.

It’s tradition to ring in New Year’s with family and friends because the first people you see

will either give you good luck or bad luck. So make sure to keep friends close and foes very

far away

One of the biggest celebrations is in Sydney, Australia. More than 80,000 fireworks are set

off from Sydney Harbor Bridge.

In Italy, people wear red underwear on New Year’s Day to bring good luck all year long.

In Colombia, Cuba and Puerto Rico, some families stuff a large doll, which is called Mr. Old

Year, with memories from the past year. They also dress him in clothes from the outgoing

year. At midnight, he is set ablaze, thus burning away the bad memories.

It’s good luck to eat foods like black eyed peas, ham and cabbage because it is thought they

bring prosperity. But if you want to have a happy new year, don’t eat lobster or chicken.

Lobsters can move backward and chickens can scratch in reverse, so it is thought these

foods could bring a reversal of fortune.

The traditional New Year’s song, “Auld Lang Syne,” means, “times gone by.”

The top 10 resolutions are usually to lose weight, eat more healthily, exercise more, stop

smoking, stick to a budget, save money, get more organized, be more patient, find a better

job and to just be a better person over all.

Using a baby to signify the New Year began in ancient Greece around 600 B.C.
