JASON GARRETT (24-24 4th Year, 29-27 overall)Jason Garrett was named the eighth head coach in DallasCowboys history on January 5, 2011. Garrett became the first for-mer Dallas Cowboys player to become the team’s head coach. Asa backup quarterback during his playing career in Dallas, he start-ed nine-of-23 games played and was a member of teams that wonsix division titles and three Super Bowl championships. Garrettwas elevated to the Cowboys top job after taking over as theteam’s interim head coach midway through 2010. He guided theclub to a 5-3 mark to finish the season after the team started 1-7.During his time as the interim head coach, three of Dallas’ winswere against teams that posted a 10-win season, while the threelosses were decided by a combined total of seven points. He ledDallas to an 8-8 record, narrowly missing the playoffs and an NFCEast Division title in each his first three full seasons as head coach(2011-13). Since the 2007 season, when Garrett was brought onboard as the Cowboys offensive coordinator, the Dallas offensehas reached high levels of productivity in several categories, andthe unit has finished among the NFL’s top-10 in total offense in fiveof his seven years at the helm: 2013 (10th), 2012 (6th), 2010(10th), 2009 (2nd) and 2007 (2nd). From the start of the 2007 sea-son, the club has averaged 24.6 points-per-game and 366.4 totalyards-per-outing.The team has set single-season records in ahandful of categories, including topping 6,000 net yards for thefirst times in franchise history (2009 - 6,390 and 2011 - 6,008).Since his arrival in 2007, not only has the team set single-seasonrecords in numerous offensive categories, but the club’s cumula-tive numbers for gross passing yards (29,107) and total points(2,756) represent the best totals over a seven-year span in thehistory of the organization while the club’s 41,041 total net yardsare second. Garrett returned to Dallas in 2007 as the offensivecoordinator. He entered the coaching profession as the quarter-backs coach for two seasons (2005-06) for Nick Saban’s MiamiDolphins club.

JOHN HARBAUGH (71-38 7th Year)John Harbaugh, who led the Ravens to the franchise’s secondWorld Championship in 2012, enters his seventh season at thehelm in Baltimore. Harbaugh has been historically good, with histeams earning the playoffs in five of his first six seasons, includingthe initial five (2008-12). Unlike other NFL head coaches,Harbaugh took the road less traveled. Most NFL head coachesgraduate from pro jobs as offensive or defensive coordinators, orthey emerge from leading big-time college programs. Harbaughwas the secondary coach of the Eagles (2007) – and prior to that,Philadelphia’s special teams coordinator (1998-2006) and a colle-giate coach for 14 years – before becoming the Ravens headcoach in 2008. Under Harbaugh’s guidance, the Ravens haveappeared in three AFC Championship games (2008, 2011, 2012)and won at least one playoff game during each of their first fivepostseasons with him as head coach. In 2013, for the first timesince Harbaugh’s 2008 arrival, Baltimore did not make the play-offs, falling one game short with an 8-8 mark and placing third inthe AFC North. The Ravens captured a second-consecutive AFCNorth title in 2012 with a 10-6 mark before sweeping four playoffgames to win Super Bowl XLVII. In 2011, the Ravens defense, which finished third in the league in fewest points permitted (16.6)for the fourth-straight year, tied an NFL record for consecutiveseasons of being in the top-three for points allowed. From 2008-10, the Ravens made the postseason, marking the first time inteam history the Ravens earned a postseason bid three years ina row. Since becoming the Ravens head coach, Harbaugh ownsthe fourth-best winning percentage (.651) among active NFL headcoaches, compiling a 71-38 overall record (including playoffs). Foractive head coaches who have coached a minimum of 60 games,Harbaugh ranks second behind Bill Belichick. Baltimore’s 71 totalvictories since Harbaugh’s arrival in 2008 rank second in the NFL,while the team’s 62 regular season wins during that time standthird.

PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- OFFENSE (cont.)

After spending the first four years of his NFL career as abackup quarterback, Tony Romo was thrust into the spotlight, taking over the starting role midway through the 2006 season. Injust 10 games, Romo led the team to a 6-4 record and a playoffberth. His overnight sensation earned him his first career ProBowl selection. He returned as the full-time starter in 2007 andestablished then franchise marks for completions (335), passingyards (4,211) and touchdowns (36) among several others. Healso led Dallas to a franchise record tying 13-3 finish and its 20thdivision title.

In 2008, despite being injured for three games, Romo fin-ished his second full season as a starter with 3,448 yards (12thin the NFL) on 450 attempts for a rating of 91.4 (eighth in theleague) despite missing three games with a fractured pinkie fin-ger on his throwing hand. In his third full season as a starter in2009, Romo eclipsed 15,000 career passing yards, became thefifth Dallas passer with 100 career touchdown throws and finishedthe season as the only quarterback in franchise history to be onthe field for every snap from center. With Romo at the helm, theclub secured its second NFC East Championship over the pastthree seasons (2007) - 21st overall and 17th NFC East crown -and led the team to its first playoff win in 13 years with a victoryover Philadelphia in the Wild Card Playoff Game.

In 2010 Romo dealt with his most significant injury after afractured clavicle suffered in the Monday Night Football Gameagainst the N.Y. Giants (10/25) forced him to miss the next eightgames and ultimately the rest of the season when the teamplaced him on the Reserve/Injured list on Dec. 21. Before goingdown with injury, he surpassed 2,000 career attempts (2,070) tobecome only the fifth Dallas passer to do so and established aclub record with 18 consecutive games with a touchdown pass.

Romo closed out 2011 with one of the best statistical sea-sons of his career. He completed 346 passes (second in hiscareer) on 522 attempts (second) with a 66.3 completion per-centage (second) for 4,184 yards (third), 31 touchdowns (sec-ond), 10 interceptions (second fewest in at least 10 gamesplayed) for a career-best 102.5 passer rating. He was third inthe league in completion percentage, fourth in passer rating, fifth in touchdowns, seventh in yards, tied for eighth in comple-tions and 11th in attempts.

The 2012 season was no different as the starter threw for aclub-record 4,903 yards (fourth 4,000-yard season) while alsosetting marks for attempts (648) and completions (425) with 28touchdowns. He finished the season second in the league incompletions, third in attempts and yards, fifth in completion per-centage and sixth in touchdowns. He also became the firstCowboy to attempt 600-plus passes and complete at least 400.Romo became the eighth different NFL passer to go at least400-of-600 in a season.

Romo again had one of his best statistical years, finishing2013 completing 342-of-535 (63.9) passes for 3,828 yards with31 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 96.7 quarterback rating. He barely missed his fifth career (third consecutive) 4,000-yardseason after missing the season finale with a back injury he suf-fered in the Week 16 win at Washington. He did record his thirdcareer 30-touchdown season while his +21 touchdown to inter-ception ratio tied his club-high and his 10 interceptions tied histhird-lowest figure.

Romo owns a 63-45 record as a starter and finished 2013fifth in the league in touchdowns, eighth in passer rating (96.7)and interceptions, ninth in completion percentage, 12th in yards,13th in completions and 14th in attempts.

Weeden, afour-year pro, comes to Dallas after starting 20 of his 23 careergames in Cleveland (2012-2014). The 2014 starting linebacker corps will feature a mix ofyouth and veteran players vying for a starting role after SeanLee was lost for the season with injury early in offseason teamwork. Fourth-year player Bruce Carter, veteran JustinDurant, rookie Anthony Hitchens and third-year player KyleWilber headline the group.

On the outside, Carter looks to build on a strong 2013campaign that saw him log a career-high 122 tackles in 15games, the third-highest total on the team. He also recordedthe first two sacks of his career.

Durant, who has totaled 609 tackles in seven pro seasonswith Jacksonville (2007-10), Detroit (2011-12 and Dallas(2013), will look to take over the middle linebacker role vacat-ed by Lee. The most veteran player of the bunch, Durant willbe relied upon to take a leadership role as well.

A former rush outside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme,Wilber will continue his transition to outside linebacker in the4-3 scheme and provide a boost with his speed and versatility.

Competing for a starting role and the premium backupspots will be veterans Rolando McClain (former first roundpick by Oakland), DeVonte Holloman (2013 sixth round draftpick), Cameron Lawrence (2013 rookie free agent), OrieLemon, 2014 fourth round draft pick out of Iowa Hitchens, 2014seventh round draft pick of Texas Tech Will Smith and rookiefree agents Keith Smith (San Jose State) and Dontavis Sapp(Tennessee).

Selvie is the returning sack leader from 2013 afterrecording seven sacks in 16 starts at defensive end, bothcareer-bests.

Spencer will attempt to get up to speed followingmicrofracture surgery on his knee in 2013, but will provideveteran leadership and look for a return to form once hereturns.

Melton and Okoye played for Marinelli while in Chicago, where Melton made a Pro Bowl in 2012, and will look to bol-ster the defensive tackle positions along with Hayden,McClain and Bass.

Lawrence is a premier edge rusher who, will be countedon to attack opposing quarterbacks from the right defensiveend position after compiling 20.0 sacks at Boise State.

Mincey split 2012 between the Jacksonville Jaguars andDenver Broncos as a rotational pass rusher, picking up twosacks in 10 games. Crawford is coming off an achilles injurythat cost him the entire 2013 season, but will look to fulfill hispromise as a physical presence on the defensive line. Bothplayers will push for a starting role on the defensive line tostart the year.

Gardner, Bishop, Wilson, Rayford with new additionsKenneth Boatright and Adewale Ojomo, along with rook-ie free agents Davon Coleman and Dartwan Bush, will addsolid rotational players to the defensive line mix.

The Cowboys secondary returns three talented cornerswith Brandon Carr, Orlando Scandrick and MorrisClaiborne looking to show increased productivity from adown 2013 campaign, and a pair of emerging players at thesafety position in Barry Church and J.J. Wilcox.

Carr, the stalwart of the Dallas secondary, produced asthe team’s top cornerback in 2013 as he finished second onthe team in interceptions (three), first in pass breakups (17)and second in cover percentage even though he was target-ed the most of any Cowboy player, allowing opposingreceivers to catch only 55.3% of attempts against him.

Scandrick played in both the nickel and outside cornerpositions in 2013, performing well at both. Scandrick finishedthird on the team in interceptions (two), second in passesdefensed (15) and first in cover percentage (54.5%). He willbattle for a starting outside corner role while also serving asthe team’s primary nickel corner.

Morris Claiborne entered the 2013 campaign as a sec-ond-year starter on the outside, but battled injuries for most ofthe year. A supremely talented athlete and player, Claibornewill look to prove himself as a shutdown option on Dallas’defense.

Dallas also returns Sterling Moore - who was acquiredvia New England’s practice squad in 2012 - and second yearplayer B.W. Webb to its secondary. Both players will vie forlarger roles in the defensive backfield.

Other cornerbacks fighting for a 2014 roster spot are sev-enth round draft choice Terrance Mitchell (Oregon), alongwith undrafted rookie free agent Tyler Patmon (OklahomaState) and first-year player Korey Lindsey (Southern Illinois).

The safety position will look to get even stronger than in2013 following Church’s breakout year and returning ahealthy Wilcox in his second NFL season in addition to sev-eral backups who figure to play a key role in 2014.

Former 2010 undrafted free agent Church returned froman achilles injury that saw him miss most of 2012 and set

career-bests in almost every category, registering a team-lead-ing 147 tackles, five tackles for loss, six passes defensed, three forced fumbles and his first-career interception.

The other starting safety position will look to be claimed byWilcox, but he will have strong competition from second-yearpro Jeff Heath, who filled in admirably for Wilcox when he wasout with injury in 2013.The other players looking for make animpact at safety are veterans Jakar Hamilton, Matt Johnsonand Johnny Thomas and rookies Ahmad Dixon (Baylor,2014 seventh round selection) and rookie free agent RyanSmith (Auburn).Aug. 7 - San Diego 27, Dallas 7: Mitchell (five tackles, onefumble recovery) and Webb (no stats) started at cornerbackwith Heath (four tackles) and Wilcox (two tackles) at safety.Dixon subbed for Wilcox and played most of the game, recording a team-leading 12 tackles and one tackle for loss.R. For his career, Bailey has con-verted 89-of-98 (90.8%) field goal tries and all 123 of his PATattempts.

The Cowboys boast solid coverage units while returninga majority of their top tacklers including Jeff Heath (13), wholed the club in special teams tackles in 2013, and other topperformers Dwayne Harris (12) and Cameron Lawrence(12).
