Summary Climate Change

COP 21 confirms the transition to a low carbon economy and is fully supported and irreversible.

Fossil Fuels will be phased out over time and replaced with Renewable energy.

There will be stranded oil and gas fields, reducing SBM’s market over time (timing is not clear).

Demand for traditional SBM products will continue as long as competitive in cost, risk and carbon emission.

SBM can play a role all three phases by focusing on three areas to reduce CO2 emissions.

Three phases during transformation:

• Preparation - continue to provide carbon energy & developing low carbon technology

• Transform – optimizing fossil fuel supply vs renewable energy

• Completed - Renewable energy main energy source, fossil fuel lomited.

Areas of Focus:

A competition was designed to address the issue

of climate change, while leveraging expertise to

create a competitive edge.

SBM Offshore tested the creative talents of its

engineers by asking them to propose innovative

solutions to reduce CO2 emissions offshore.

Five teams of young entrepreneurial employees

from around the world found intelligent solutions to

reduce CO2, while increasing operational efficiency

on SBM Offshore’s FPSOs and MOPU.
