Petition of Rights-1628-Limits on Kings power, could not raise taxes or imprison people with cause.
He accepted the petition and then ignored it.

Roundsheads won and executed Charles I
He started out ruling England as a “Commonweath” (Republic)
Changed to Military Dictatorship with strict rules and exiled most Catholics.
Died in 1658 People were tired of the military
dictatorship and invited Charles II back to England.
Charles II was popular and allowed religious toleration. He was Catholic but hid it.
Flaunted his Catholic faithProtestants feared he would restore
the Catholic Church
1688-Parliament leaders invited James Protestant daughter Mary and William of Orange to become rulers of England.
James II fled to France-Bloodless Overthrow
