Birthday Fellowship is a wonderful time for everyone to gather and celebrate with those that have or will have birthdays during the month. This opportunity for fellowship is possible if those that have birthdays or family members with birth-days bring treats. Just like in school when we brought treats to share with our clas-ses, we continue to have that opportunity to share with our church community!
Community Choir: will start Feb 13th and will be held from 8:30pm-9:30pm at Zion. Anyone is welcome to join Commu-nity Choir, so please pass the word around to anyone in the Scotland and surrounding areas! Any questions please contact Doro-thy Bietz or DenAlta Patocka.
Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it
The carpenter’s tools had a meeting. Brother Hammer was the chair. The members informed him that he must leave, because he was too noisy. But Brother Hammer said, "If I am to leave this carpenter’s shop, Brother Screwdriver must go also. You have to turn him around and around and around to get anywhere with him." Brother Screwdriver turned and said, "If you wish, I will go, but Brother Plane must leave al-so. All his work is on the surface; there’s no depth." To this, Brother Plane leveled his reply, "Well, then, Brother Saw will have to depart. The changes he proposes cut too deep." Brother Saw complained, saying, "Brother Ruler will have to withdraw if I do, for he is al-ways measuring other folks as though he were the only one who is right." Brother Ruler then surveyed the group and said, "Brother Sandpaper doesn’t belong here, ei-ther. He’s rougher than he ought to be and is always rubbing people the wrong way." In the midst of this discussion, the Carpenter of Nazareth walked in. He had come to perform his day’s work. He put on his carpenter’s apron and went to the workbench to make a pulpit. He employed the ruler, the saw, the plane, the hammer, the screwdriver, the sandpaper, and all the other tools. When the day’s work was over, the pulpit was finished, and the carpenter went home. Brother Saw arose and said, "Brethren, I perceive that all of us are laborers together with God." All the accusations against each of these tools were absolutely true, yet the carpenter used eve-ry one of them. No matter which tool he used, no other tool could have done the work better. We all are tools in God’s toolbox. Each of us has our task, our purpose, our gift to bring to God’s Church. Each gift is necessary for our life together. Now consider for yourself: What part of the Body of Christ might you be? No matter who you are, no matter how old or how young, you are some part of the Body of Christ right here at Zion. ...Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it
Maybe you feel like the stomach because you enjoy the potlucks we have, maybe you feel like the body’s hand because you like to quilt, or you like to fix things that aren’t quite working like they should be. Maybe you like to get things going and have ideas of where to take Zion in fu-ture, so you feel as though you are a foot of the body. Or perhaps you feel like the eyes of Zion, constantly looking at what needs to be done, keeping track of things, and watching for who needs help. The stomach can’t keep all the nourishment to it self it has to furnish nourishment for the rest of the body. If the stomach gets greedy the feet may have to support the extra weight and help provide some exercise. The eyes can’t forget to tell the feet and the hands what it sees so the resources can be directed to the proper places.
We don’t need an anatomy lesson, but we know there are many parts that make up the body. We can live with out some of them even though it might leave the body disabled. There are three parts that I would say are essential the brain, heart and lungs. The good news is that those are the parts that God takes over. God who created us and everything that exists is our brain. Jesus who gave his own life so that we may live is the heart and the Holy Spirit is our lungs.
God provides the inspiration, Jesus is the power we depend on and the Holy Spirit breathes fresh air and new life into the church. Thanks be to God for the important ministry we do to-gether here at Zion. Thanks be to God for the many gifts God has given to us and thanks be to God the He makes it all possible.
