Yellowstone National Park is America\’s first national park. Located in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho, it is home to a variety of wildlife including grizzly bears, wolves, bison, and elk. There are Old Faithful and a collection of the world\’s most extraordinary geysers and hot springs, and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Grand Teton Range is a mountain range of the Rocky Mountains in North America. A north-south range, it is on the Wyoming side of the state's border with Idaho, just south of Yellowstone National Park.

Thermal Features in Yellowstone National Park

or “dry geysers”, are holes in the ground that release water vapor and other gases. The smell of rotten eggs comes from the sulfuric acid in the steam.

Fumaroles

also called thermal pool, contained an array of colors depending upon water temperature, mineral or algae content, and absorption of light.

Hot Spring

hot water mixes with clay and other minerals. In the spring and fall the pots are thin and soupy; the mud bubbles and boils. In late summer they thicken and have been known to hurl hot mud 10 to 15 feet high.

Geysers

• Daisy Geyser is part of interconnected group of geyser and hot springs • Underground cracks and fissures allow water and heat to circulate between

them• Daisy Geyser erupts to heights of 75 feet or more• On average, the duration of Daisy Geyser’s eruptions are 3 to 5 minutes

Eruption of Beehive Geyser

This isolated spring is one of the most regular geysers in Yellowstone. Its 75 foot (23 m) eruption lasts about half an hour and is followed by an interval between 5.5 to 7 hours.

When erupts, it

can rocket the scalding water

At 122-140oF Whirligig’s run off channel is hot enough to burn you. Thermophiles living here use iron as energy. These chemical users are called “Chemotrophs”

Thermophiles algae, including Cyanidium, inhibit the green channel. They use light as energy (photosynthesize). These “Phototrophs” live where temperature range from 100-103oF
