-Aesthetics over info – content should be main focus, looks bonus.-Focus on the wrong part of sales cycle – ad agencies often design sites that feel like advertising. They create sites as if they need to grab the attention for the first time.-Most agencies don’t design with search in mind-Don’t design with clients and prospects in mind – too much “see how different we are” and end up sounding and looking the same.-Don’t practice/understand online marketing on their own website

The good ones? Freelance designers, photographers, basically anyone who’s selling their services.

They still have their About Me/Us section, their portfolio, etc but as well as promoting interactivity via contact page encouraging clients/prospects to inquire via online as well as a weblog – just to show that they’re still people. Social media tools can work to improve this as well – Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Yes. These are very long websites. No pages, just awesome navigation coding.

So wanna be really different? To design the new site as how a freelancer would to market his services :D
