destination, and expected return time
Carry extra clothing and dress to
prevent hypothermia
Be prepared for sudden changes in
the weather or snow. Conditions
may vary considerably throughout
the day and with elevation.
Take the following essential winter
gear on any excursion: water in an
insulated bottle, high energy snacks,
first aid kit, extra clothing including
a hat and gloves, sunscreen and
sunglasses, map and compass,
flashlight, and a repair kit
For safe wildlife viewing, keep your
distance and never approach. Stay
25 yards from moose, bison, and elk,
and at least 100 yards from bears,
wolves, and mountain lions.
Winter driving
Our roads are frequently covered with ice
or hard-packed snow, and winter storms
create white-out driving conditions. To
stay as safe as possible, follow these
precautions:
Drive below the speed limit as
conditions warrant
Watch for wildlife on the roadway
Snowstorms can occur at any time;
be prepared for changing weather
conditions
Roads may close at any time for
visitor safety
Always wear your seat belt
