The Chimes
Changing SeasonsWe are now fully into the Lenten Season;
time for prayer and penitence. I waseading My Forward Movement
publication on Lent, and found adevotional that really hit home for me.Giving full credit to this publication, Iwant to share some of the highlights ofhat message:
Dogs know. They know what it means to love
nd fear at the same time. Most dog ownersove their dogs in a special way, and our dogs
eem to love us in their way. They welcome us
ome, run to meet us, want to be with us and
rust us, wherever we are going. My dogs are
hat way and I like it.
That is the love part on the dogs part;
owever, if we yell at them or abuse them they
link away as only dogs can do head down
nd tail between their legs. On those very
ccasional times, when I speak harshly to my
dogs, they run under the dining room table to
hide.
We humans are not dogs, and God doesnt
want us to be. We have free will and it is
central to who we are. It seems to be
important to God also, for one of his first acts
was to create the world with an object of
desire and ultimate temptation, the Tree of
Knowledge. He didnt have to put it there.
God chose to. He wants us to use our free will
to make up our own minds and come to Him
freely.
So how does this relate to our loving dogs
We can learn some lessons from our dogsgood dog pays attention. Hes not about
assigning blame (something we humans s
to do too frequently). Our dogs want to
please. More often than not, they follow th
rules. They come when called. They love
unconditionally. They are ready to go
anywhere, anytime, following the voice of
one they love. Get it? A good example to
consider during Lent.
All credit for this message to FORWARD
MOVEMENT, Morehouse Publishing.
And in closing, a prayer from our BooCommon Prayer:
Remember not, Lord Christ, our offenses,
the offenses of our forefathers; neither rew
us according to our sins. Spare us, good L
spare thy people, whom thou hast redeeme
with thy most precious blood, and by thy
mercy preserve us forever. Amen

Recipe of the Month
Sausage and Rice
lb smoked sausage, slicedcan diced tomatoes (I like petite diced)- 8 oz can tomato saucemedium onion, dicedcloves garlic, mincedcups cooked ricetablespoon Tony Chacheres (or salt & pepper,
ncluding red pepper)
Brown sausage. Cook onions and garlic in a littleil. Drain diced tomatoes, reserving liquid. Addomatoes to seasoning once onions are cooked andaut for a few minutes. Stir in tomato sauce,
eserved liquid and spices. Add sausage andimmer for 15 minutes. Add rice.
his recipe was originally from my sister. It usedpicy Bloody Mary mix. Over the years I havedapted it and finally measured it and made aecipe. People from Louisiana developed theiruisine by using the ingredients available to themn their new environment while utilizing theirrench, Spanish and African ways of cooking. In
hat same manner, most of us just use recipes asuggestions. Use what you have! This is a veryorgiving recipe. I have used leftover salsa, freshomatoes, pico de gallo, tomato juice, etc. toubstitute for the tomatoes and tomato sauce.
lease submit your favorite recipes to the Chimeso everyone can enjoy them. I had to look in myersonal files this month to fill the space! Hopeou try it an enjoy it.

I wish to thank all of you for the help and kindn

The kindness started during her first hospitaliza

her getting out of rehab and back home and tochurch. St. Johns meant a lot to her.
Thanks to Dr. Sam Todd and Eric LeBrocq for al

cant wait to see the boards when finished. Inow that I am always impressed with the

tart making your lists to post on the board. What should you include? I personally likehese thoughts on Ministry from Kirk
Whittaker.
What is ministry? Ministry is giving ofverything of yourself without expectingnything..not a peep, not a thank you. You do it outf love..for nothing else. Jesus told us that the firstnd greatest commandment was to love God ourather with all our heart and soul and strength. Bute then added that the second greatestommandment was to love our neighbors asurselves and that all the laws and teaching of therophets hung on these two commandments.
Ministry is ...letting God use you for the spreading
f His word and will. Cooking in a kitchen foromeless people can be a ministry..if you do it forhe Glory of God. Scrubbing floors at a needyersons house can be a ministry...if you do it for the
Glory of God. As the Bible says, do all things forhe Glory of God..that is ministry. If you approacht with that attitude, the you will reflect the love of
God.

A Moving Story! My mother was one year old when herfather went of to fight in WW1. He died at
the Battle of the Somme in 1916. She hadno recollection of him, but in my researchon genealogy, I came across his obituary,
which my Grandmother place in the localnewspaper.
Could I but hear his loving voiceand see his smiling face,
This aching of my heart wouldcease and sunshine take its
place. But the hardest part has not yetcome,
When the warriors return and Imiss among the cheering crowd,
The face of my dear husband thathas gone.Ever remembered by his loving
wife, child and friends. My Mother was only 3 when this was in
print, and she died at the age of 95,before I came across this obituary.
