Can You Hear It? Can you hear it? The crowds? The noise? Can you feel thepalm branches waving? Kids screaming and cheering? Jerusalem is

getting ready for the Messiah. He is riding on a donkey entering the

city limits. People have lined up to see the King of Kings and the

Lord of Lords. Are you at the synagogue? Do you hear the crowds

yelling, Crucify, crucify? Can you see Pilot washing his hands and

handing Barabbas back to his people? Do you see Jesus, innocent

yet the Lamb of God submits to the will of His heavenly Father? Can

you hear the screams of Jesus as he is flogged?

The cross Can you bear watching this injured man carrying

his own cross? Can you see and feel the agony of Mary, the mother

of Jesus as she walks along the Via Dolorosa? But wait did you seeJesus fall? Who is this Simon of Cyrene? He is the one who carries

the cross to Golgotha, the final destination. Jesus follows to Calvary

where he is stripped, stabbed and nailed to the cross. Can you see

the guards mocking Him vying for his clothing?

I am sure you can hear the agony and the pain of the Messiah

yet He looked at those hurting Him and said, Father forgive them

for they know not what they do. He was forgiving in the last

moments of life. His head bows and His spirit released back to God

with this phrase, "Eli Eli lama sabachthani?" which is, "My God, my

God, why have you forsaken me?" The people cry. His disciples

mourn and the world turns dark. Hours later, He is taken to the

tomb of Joseph of Arimathea and prepared for burial with myrrh

and clothed in a white shroud.

Can you see the large stone covering the entrance of the

tomb? Nothing happens yet until that Sunday morning. Do you hear

the rumble and the shake of the earth? Can you see the fear on the

faces of the Roman guards? Do you see the Angel present at the

tomb? Can you see the Heavenly lights create a runway for the

Prince of Peace? HE IS ALIVE; HE IS ALIVE INDEED. There He is

the Risen Christ. He has been victorious. He is arisen from the dead.

He holds the keys to death. Death couldnt handle Him. The grave

couldnt hold Him. He was, He is and He is to come.

An empty tomb. A Risen Christ. Will you, by faith, let thenailed scarred hands of Jesus love you today? I pray we live with

resurrection power this Easter.

The Lenten Study, 24 Hours That Changed

the World, by Adam Hamilton, is being

held in the Fellowship Hall at 9:30 am

during the Sunday School hour. The study

includes a DVD featuring a tour of the

di!erent places in the Holy Land where

Jesus went or was taken in the 24 hoursbefore His crucifixion, and sharing and

discussion of the lesson led by Witness

Committee members. The last session on

Easter morning is entitled Christ the

V ic tor and focuses on Chr is t s

resurrection. Everyone is welcome as we

remember what Jesus went through and

what that means for us.

Palm Sunday

The children will wave palms at the

beginning of the worship service.

Maundy Thursday

Commemorate the Last Supper of Jesus in

which Jesus gave several final commands

to his disciples - to love one another, to

serve one another and to remember Him

through the breaking of the bread. The

Maundy Thursday service, including

communion, will be held at Chapel on April

17 at 6:30 pm.

Good Friday

Join us in a powerful service in

remembering Christs great sacrifice as the

story is retold of Jesus arrest, crucifixion

and death on Good Friday. Chapel will

host the community service on April 18 at

7:30 pm. Area pastors will join together to

lead the service. A community choir,

directed by Sue Koster and accompanied

by Marcia Wiese, will sing two songs. The

first choir practice will be Wed, April 9,

6:30 pm, at Gladbrooks Peace Church.

Easter Sunday

Easter Sunrise services will be held at 7:30

followed by a breakfast providers by the

Volunteers. The last Lenten study will

follow at 9:30 am. Easter services will

begin at 10:30 am. Christ the Lord is

risen today!

Easter Egg Hunt

The annual Easter Egg Hunt will be Sunday

April 27 during church. There will be nochildren's church in May due to the late

Easter Egg Hunt. Children's Church will

start back up again in September on the

second Sunday of the month.

Spring Breakfast

All women of the church are invited to the

UMWs annual spring breakfast on

Saturday, April 12, at 9:00 a.m. at the

church. Susan Beichley and Myrene

Appelgate have arranged for the program.

Lois Groth and Karen Handorf will

decorate the tables, and hostesses for the

breakfast are Carolyn Kloster, Jo

GMG PIE is having its spring pop can

drive April 12, from 10-11 am at the

Remembering Martha Bessman. . .

Martha Catherine Byrd Bessman, 92, of GreenMountain, IA, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014, at

Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook, IA, while under the care of

Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., on

March 14, 2014, at Chapel.

Visitation will was held from

5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. onMarch 13, 2014 at Anderson

Funeral Homes, 405 W Main

St., Marshalltown. A memorial

has been established in her

Martha was born January

23, 1922 in Appleton City, MO

to Harvey and Mabel (Hulse)

Byrd. She lived there 3 weeks

and then moved to Gladbrook

for a short time and then to

the family farm 3 miles

northeast of Green Mountain.

Martha graduated from Green

Mountain High School in 1940.

She attended Marshalltown Community college 1 year

before entering nurses training at Evangelical Deaconess

School of Nursing in Marshalltown. She graduated as a

registered nurse in 1944. Martha was united in marriage

to Zeal Bessman on June 29, 1947. They lived in the

Wellsburg area until 1950 when they moved to the family

farm northeast of Green Mountain. Four children were

born to this union: Arlys Bessman Boyington, Rick , Ron

and Bryon Bessman. In June 1985, Zeal and Martha

moved to Green Mountain after retiring from the farm.

Martha worked at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad, IA for

21 and a half years; 8 years was spent as the director of

nursing. She was a loyal member of the Chapel United

Methodist Church, Chapel L.C.A, Vienna Homemakers and

honorary member of the United Methodist Women. Martha will be missed by her daughter, Arlys (Ron)Boyington of rural Marshalltown, three sons, Rick

Bessman of Green Mountain, Ron (June) Bessman of

Gladbrook, Bryon (Pat) Bessman of rural Marshalltown, 6

grandchildren, Brenda (Doug) Egesdal, Aaron (Stef)

Bessman, Dustin (Megan) Bessman, Angela Bessman,

Chris (Nicole) Boyington and Jay Bessman, and 8 great

grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband,

Zeal and a grandson, Brandon Boyington.

CHAPEL NEWS

Dr. Bill Ormston, DVM Dr. Ormston (Dr. O to most) is the eldest son of teachers fro

Marshalltown, Iowa. His love of animals comes from having grown up in an agricultura

family. He was a leader in his 4H group and was well known in the state political circle

a bright young man. In 1988 he graduated from Iowa State University College of

Veterinary Medicine with his DVM and was the youngest recipient of the Gentle Docto

Award given by that college.

He started out in private practice and owned one in Hays, Kansas and one in Clim

Springs, MO before moving to Celina, TX. In 1998 he attended Options for Animals an

earned his certificate in Animal Chiropractic. Following his move to Texas he found

himself in need of continuing education for the American Veterinary Chiropractic

Association and sponsored a conference in Dallas, TX at Parker Chiropractic College.

Soon after this endeavor he founded the Animal Chiropractic Program at Parker

Chiropractic College with the sponsorship of the continuing education department.

His speaking endeavors include the American Veterinary Medical Association,

Equine A!air, the Hoosier Horse Fair, and the American Veterinary Chiropractic

Association.

Dr. Bill Ormston also cohosts the cable television show Harmonizing Your Horses

Health with Dr. Amy Hayek. The 26 episodes have aired on various stations within the United States, Australia, South

America and Japan. Segments of the show have also been seen during the World Equestrian Games and varioussporting events. You can find more about the show and them at www.hyhh.tv.

As a result of the demand for more in-depth information from the TV show, they now teach courses to veterinar

and horse owners. The courses include in-depth scientific information brought to a level that is easy to understand fo

horse owners; Gait Analysis, Cellular Healing, Fixing Saddle Fit, and The Equine Foot.

Between the two doctors they are licensed to practice in 8 states, including Iowa.

March 22, 2014

Chapel friends,

Our son, Doug, just pulled out of the yard here at Cayo Deaf Institute in Belize with his family and the 8 member mission team fro

his school in Nova Scotia to begin their journey home. All of our family, 4 adults and 6 grandchildren, had been with us the previous wSo our house, which had been full of family sleeping in all of the beds and corners, now seems so quiet.

Much of my time during this stay at CDI has been spent at the drafting board revising the plans for the renovation of two bathr

in a girls dormitory. In the picture, I'm seated at a table in our living room re-drawing the plans. I have presented two alternate plan

the building and grounds committee along with cost estimates for the project. The current plan is for a mission team from Alabama

come and do much of the work in early August, just a month after the close of the triennial deaf camp on July 5.

I have also been working on a new septic system for new restrooms that

are almost completed. That means a lot of time with a shovel in my hand

digging the pit for the tank which we got hooked up yesterday.

Today many of the students left at 5 AM for the monthly deaf classes

for parents which are held in the southern part of the country. The classes

are also an opportunity for the students to see their families since they

have not been home since Christmas break.Our time in Belize will be very short this year out of concern for

Sarah's fragile health. We are scheduled to leave in 4 days and arrive home on

March 27.

Thank you for your continued prayers for Sarah's health and for the

work with the deaf here in Belize.

Administrative Council3/9/14

Beichley, Jim Fleming and Dan Steen. Dan Steen thanked Janice Collinsand Carol Lamer for providing lunch andcalled the meeting to order at 12:30 pm. Theminutes were published in the ChapelChimes newsletter and there were norevisions. Cheri Richter moved to approvethe minutes as published, seconded by MarlaHlas and motion passed. Ji m Fleming reporte d on thetreasury. Apportionments are up from last

year. There is one more bill submitted for thebasement. The work is complete and cameapproximately &1800 over bid. The laptop

and software have been purchased for thetreasurer. Leon Lamer moved to approve thebudget, seconded by John Richter andmotion passed. Pastor Jennifer reported thateverything is going well and everyone isenjoying the di%erent preaching each week.Jennifer thanked the men for serving thepancake supper prior to the Ash Wednesdayservice. She has been providing visits asneeded to the members. There will be a 6:30pm Maundy Thursday service at Chapel,including communion. Jennifer will bemeeting with the area pastors to plan the

community Good Friday Service. It will be atChapel on April 18 at 7:30 pm. Singers areencouraged to join the community choir,

which will be directed by Sue Koster. Firstpractice is Wed, April 9, at 6:30 pm at PeaceUCC Church, Gladbrook. Lois Groth andMarla Hlas will order palm branches for PalmSunday process ion. Jennifer keeps thecommunication open with Pastor Dean and

will work with him regarding these servicesupon his return. Trus tees , Leon Lamer : Thebasement is finished and has been painted.

The original bid was approved at &35,000 and

it was &1800 more due to the east wall cavingin. It has all been repaired and the flooringreplacement will wait for another year toensure it stays dry. The final cost of thebasement was approximately &38,100. PPR, Ron Groth: Everything is

going well. He realized much of the problemwith dismissing late was that due to otherworship activities, the pastor was not gettingstarted on time. He worked with the worshipchair, and a few things have been changedaround to help the flow of the service.

YF, Marla Hlas and Jay Beichley:Jay reported that they have SNCAL about2$3 times a month. There has been a bigcrowd. He was happy to have Josh andSonya Rouser help with youth games duringMarch. Marla will have YF on March 16thsite to be determined, with a short devotion

on missions by Lori Somers. Also March 28is Winter Jam in Des Moines, if it works outwith youth schedules. Marla is planning aYF Revival at a cabin at Red Rock. Herbrother, Darin Clark, will be the speaker.More info to follow. The YF met at Marla& Dougs home for a super bowl party with28 people attending. The YF treasurybalance is &3800 with &1500 paid for IHOProoms and upcoming expenses of WinterJam &200 and the Revival of &1000. No reports for Jr. Sunday School,Childrens Church, Sunday School Treasurer,or Lay Leader. The Youth Members

reported no needs at this time. Witness Committee, KathrynBurt reported that the Lenten study, The 24Hours that Changed the World, started thismorning during Sunday School in thefellowship hall with 44 people attending.

The books are &12 each. Leon moved topayfor the books out of the general fund,seconded by John Richter and motioncarried. If you would like to pay for yourbook, you can put money in the o%eringplate, but it is not required. Vaugn Kloster

will be the leader next week for the Lentenlesson. Paul Daniel has written a 40$day

devotion for Lent that he is emailing out tothe Chapel group email and also posting tothe chapel blog, ht t p : / / chapelfriends.blogspot.com/. He will bemaking limited copies of the devotional forthose who do not have email or internetaccess. John Richter moved to pay forPauls expenses, seconded by Je% Koster,and motion carried. Mission Committee, Lori Somersreported that the mission committee issupporting the UMC Imagine No Malariaduring the Lenten season. There arebasketball hoops and coin jars throughout

the church that you can drop in your loosechange each week. The committee ischallenging the church to raise &1000 forImagine No Malaria. There are severalprojects that the committee is prayerfullyconsidering for future trips.

Age Level Committee, Lois Grothstated no report. Worship/Nurture Committee,Cheri Richter reported that the worshipservice times seem to be working. Thereare areas that tend to run long"announcements# and by talking to each

group involved in the service, we can allrespectful of time so that we allow amtime for the pastor. It is hard to see message cut short when we know that Ghas spoken to that particular speaker t

week. If you know of an announcemplease send to Ann Jackson ahead of tim

so it can be placed in the bulletinprojected up front.Old Business: The new TV in

fellowship hall was used this morning the Lenten DVD. There is some nequipment that had to be returned a

Cards & Gifts report was given byCarolyn Kloster. Seven cards were sent.

Christmas caroling was reviewed. Forty$

three Chapel members sang and twenty$fourpeople were visited along with many nursinghome residents. Those who sang gatheredat Zenos Pizza following the caroling.

Thanks to Barbara Burt, Darrel Burt, KarenHandorf and Cindy Ormston who organizedthe caroling and bought gifts to share.

Chapel members gathered at thePizza Ranch prior to the New HopeChristmas production in Marshalltown.Due to a snow storm, most returned homeconcerned for the weather. Dehanging of the Greens on

January 5 went well . There are a fewoutdoor decorations still outside due tosnow drifts blocking the way to the garage. The Volunteers served the SeniorCitizen dinner on September 13 at 11:30 am.Program was presented by Karen Handorfand Sue Koster entitled Memories.Decorations were in the country theme.

The up$coming 2014 Senior Citizen Dinnercommittee is Carolyn Kloster, Sue Kosterand Claire Handorf. The Live Nativity Scene in Garwinat the Christian Church was held onDecember 15. Cindy Ormston, Kathryn

Burt and Lois Groth each provided a jellyroll pan of bars. Janice Collins providedcrackers for soup. The Easter Sunrise Breakfast willbe held on April 20. The Volunteers willprovide the meal while the YF will presentthe Sunrise Service. Breakfast Committee is

comprised of Cheri Richter, Sue Koster andTricia Steen. Baccalaureate services will be held

at Chapel Church on May 14at 7:00 p.m.

Volunteer members to determine the foodpreparations for the services are KathrynBurt and Shirley Svendsen. Lois Groth will

assist with decorations. Election of o'cers: Carol Lamer& Sue Koster, co$chairs; Tricia Steen,secretary; Shirley Svendsen, treasurer; andCarolyn Kloster, correspondent. Tricia Steen will provide devotionsat the September 18, 2014, meeting which

will be held at 7:00 in the church fellowshiphall. If someone would like to providelunch, contact Carol Lamer or Sue Koster.

The meeting was adjourned by co$chair,Cheri Richter. Thank you to Jani ce Col lin s,Kathryn Burt and Lois Groth for the

delicious lunch following the meeting.

LCA Minutes The Chapel Ladies Cemetery Aidmet Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at thechurch. The meeting was called to order at1:30 pm by President Connie Appelgate. Kathryn Burt led devotions by

reading selections from Poems of Faith byHelen Steiner Rice. Roll call, Something I Enjoy On aCold Winter Day, was answered by fivemembers. The minutes of the Novemberand December meetings were read andapproved. We received a thank you from the
