System structure• The system structure of the digestive system consist

of many organs working together to carry out specific functions.

• The esophagus, small intestine, large intestine, teeth and mouth, stomach, liver, gall bladder, and the pancreas are some organs that are included in the system structure of the digestive system.

Esophagus • The esophagus is the muscular tube dorsal to the trachea.

This tube carries the bolus (after the food is chewed and mixed with saliva it becomes bolus) to the stomach.

Small intestine

• The small intestine chemically digests the food and

absorbs its nutrients into your blood.

Large intestine • The large intestine functions the absorption of water and any remaining nutrients storage of indigestible materials before they are eliminated.

Mouth and teeth• The mouth and teeth work together to chew the food

and break it down to pass it to the throat.

Stomach • The stomach is an enlarged part of the alimentary canal.

It receives the food from the esophagus.

Liver and gallbladder • The liver stores sugar in the form of glycogen.• The gallbladder stores and concentrates bile.

Pancreas • The pancreas produces juices that contain enzymes to

digest food.
